I don't even know where to start. You got the bureaucracy full of crazy people or idiots that don't know how to teach a class worth a damn but is happy to tell everyone how to handle the kids. Then you got the structure of the system which allows for these crazies and idiots to be in these spots because there are no checks and balances on principals or even superintendents. Then you got the parents who just don't give a damn in the first place, causing students to be lazier and crappier than ever. Or you got the parents that take offense to the fact that the white kids are doing better as if the numbers are racist.
Oh but who does everyone point the finger at first? The teachers. What a great set up we got going.

Well, this is what happens when teachers are educated in their fields, but not in general education and didactics. In particular, his dismissal of positive phrasing shows how little he knows.
Although the principal there does sound completely incompetent as well.

Students that act like ***holes don't respond to positive phrasing at all though. They don't respond to negative phrasing either, but he is right in his dismissal because I have seen first hand teachers that use positive phrasing start to get walked all over because the students interpret it as weakness on the teacher's part.
Friend of mine teaches English, to call her frustrated wouldn't quite cover it. It's the managers and their bullshit-lingo, they just don't have the same thing in mind as the people doing the work, leave teaching to teachers not to professional-hobbyists

I don't believe you know exactly what you're talking about.
The reasoning behind positive phrasing is the same as the reasoning behind the butterfly in the urinal at the pub. And it works just as well.

I'm not sure you do. To be a teacher in the US you a need a degree in education at an accredited university now and have for quite some time..........
But hey HoreTore is the greatest teacher on earth and never has bad students. And when one is naughty he tells them to stop and they obviously do because children are renowned for their respect and obedience to authority.

I don't really see the need to respond to this.

We as Americans need to allow our teachers to smack the A-Hats up side the head. Like that one teacher who knocked that brat out a while back, that lady deserves a medal.

Putting a butterfly in a urinal reduces the amount of urin on the floor dramatically.
I'll leave you with that for now, since I need to sleep...

So, by analogy the students are urine?

By painting a nice picture you have a better outcome then firing like a shotgun.
The best students normally have a lot of parental involvement and hopefully ones who can confidentally and positively deal with there childs flaws.
However for some children the only positive role model they will encounter will be a teacher or two. There is a strong correlation of adults preference for a subject and positive memories of the teacher who taught them that subject.
So yes it might be a great relief to teachers to kick, smack, slap, whip, cane or berate a child under their care. The problem children are already having difficulties keeping up, or bored or already abused at home. So why not heap one more injury on them, they deserve to be treated like dirt as their parents already abuse them too, right?

Because most men are bastards and enjoying destroying something beautiful?
Meh.
Depends on the child, in the US and UK we have children who just don't care at all, they are borderline sociopathic and all you can do is try to stop them interfering with the ones who want to learn. This is one of the reasons I am in favour of streaming in Secondary Schools in the UK, all the rotten eggs in one basket.
