You don't.

Well, you can capture their last remaining province (AFTER taking Kyoto) and vassalize them. That way you avoid the diplomacy penalty that is realm divide and can keep them as vassals. If you carefully make love not war before realm divide (i.e. marriage treaties, alliances, trade agreements) you might be able to keep 2-3 loyal allies, even after realm divide, provided you're willing to constantly throw money at them. The rest will just hate you and there's not much you can do about it. Take it as a challenge.

RD gives a total of -174, iirc, in diplomacy stats...
You will need a bonus that tops that: pretty much building a perfect relation with clan/s since the start of the campaign...

Realm Divide is the final crisis moment of your campaign and is meant to either make or break your clan's attempted rise to power. In past TW games, the AI would recognize the player was approaching a total domination - in which case it would cease all diplomatic actions and attempt to kill him/her off by having all factions attack. In Shogun 2, this is demonstrated by the Realm Divide mechanic.

The Shogun has recognized you as a serious threat to the status quo and has mobilized the rest of Japan against you and your allies. The only way to get them to stop attacking is through war, which will provide in both victory or defeat, a cessation to hostilities.

Good luck Pharoah.
