View Full Version : A simple mod?

I would like some advice please about choosing a mod. I know that EB and RTR are popular, but I really don’t want a huge increase in the number of unit types, improved graphics etc. because my computer can just about cope with vanilla RTW. I don’t think adding a lot of stuff would be a good idea. I don’t want to invest a lot of time learning the names and characteristics of 100s of new units either.

So what do I want?

1: vanilla RTW compatible. I don’t have BI

2: More challenge on the battle field. I understand that there’s no way to make RTW battles fight like STW battles, but I’m sure that improvement is possible.

3: More challenge on the strategic map. Ideally, I should be challenged on the medium difficulty setting. Otherwise, there’s no point in having diplomacy in the game because a diplomatic approach doesn’t work on VH.

4: Nerfing of the Roman factions. Playing any Roman faction is way too easy in vanilla.

Is that available in a simple package that a tired old computer and a tired old brain can handle?

Have you tried extended greek mod?

I haven't tried any of them yet. I sort of assumed that extended Greek would focus on Greece, not Rome, and on an earlier peroid.. I guess that would be OK, but I was thinking in terms of the original game's breath of coverage and time period.

it takes place in the vanila period but just gives more depths to the greek factions and little editing to the look of the units

Doesn't sound like its quite what I'm looking for, but since there's not exactly a huge list of suggestions I might try it out.

Thanks for the idea Pharoah.

my same sentiments exactly [but maybe i'm just prejudiced: i play XGM more often than vanilla or any other mod]. Hawooh.
[[p.s. my computer's old too--2003 vintage, although my graphics card is 2005 vintage; so i think both our computers are in the same antique boat.]]
