Got a question here:

Is "height advantage" calculated as a solely "Yes/No", or it is based on a relative scale? http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif For example, a small hill can be as advantageous as a large hill in the first case, while in the second case it gives ignorable advantage.

Just recalled that there is a battle calculator - in there the height advantage was simplified as a simple yes/no.

Thank you very much.

always wondered about that, i spend far to much time trying to get men on the highest part of a hill i can find.

I think it's yes or no because of the number/stats table that i have they only mention ONE bonus number alloted as a height advantage, same as flanking bonus, woods bonus (against cav) etc...

BUT the higher the hill you are on, the more the ennemy units gets tired climbing after you so it does make a difference.

Well it varies m8. I think that the degree of the hill playes a role. But the higher the hill the more accurate your projectile units are thus you get to kill many of them before they reach you.

i know about the missile unit advantage, but what about h-2-h, is a bigger gradient a bigger advantage?

I think so EvilC.

A unit going downwards on a Hachiman hill http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif isnt's kills less than a unit going downwards on a mountain in Awaji. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

I agree, I did this experiment years ago, I went down a mountain with my h9 yari samurai and killed about 300 men, before my gen died and everyone routed, then I tried this on a small slope in totomi back in the RA days, in my most memorable game, some may remember that, I killed barely 200, and I had just as much monks in front of me in both games, and I was surrounded going down that mountain, all around me!
