I have been producing some ashiguru troops with exceptional amour and they are walking little tanks and it seems I can keep their exceptional armour intact when they are down to just a few men by refilling their ranks with my regular paper armoured ashiguru. Am I correct in thinking the amour has remained intact? I can't tell from the battles as they are always too hectic for me to really have a clue what is going on most of the time :dizzy2:.

My second point is if I don't leave my archers on auto targeting and have the cheek to suggest they shoot at a particular unit then after a little while my archers break formation and do all sorts of stupid things to keep on shooting at that particular unit well I imagine that's it but I'm never really sure what they are up to! So is there a way to force them to keep in formation so they don't commit suicide by running off into the middle of the enemy forces chasing some routed unit?

i don't know about the armour thing, but i think you can have them keep position with guard mode. that way they won't shoot at routing units. or at least, i think that's what it meant to do. i have never tried it.

Excellent idea!

I will try that, thanks.

I don't know if the guard thing works, but I was wondering this myself. You can tell your archers to attack a certain unit, but if they get out of range, the unit will follow them. It definitely would be nice to have them hold their ground, select certain targets, but then also switch to a new target automatically if that one gets out of range.

Madae you expressed exactly what I meant but better!

Guard mode doesnt work for my archers..... they stick around in a melee always.... bad... very bad

jepp21 - you would expect them to stick around for melee if in guard mode you would need to toggle skirmish to make 'em run from brutes with swords or spears!

Indeed, i'm pretty sure archers in guard mode follow routing units to shoot them as much as the do we they aren't in guard mode. That's why I also always keep my archers in fire at will, even though they sometimes choose silly targets.

Hmm... sounds like there should be a 'Don't be stupid' mode :)
