View Full Version : Hayasdan local recruitment?

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in technical help, so I apologize if this is the wrong place.
I've been building local MICs all over as Hayasdan, specifically in Antioch, Damascus, Babylon and Asia Minor. Even though the MIC and recruitment viewer say I should be able to recruit a bunch of people (Arabian soldiers in Babylon, Anatolian and Hellenic soldiers in Anatolia, Jewish Spearmen in Damascus, etc.) building those barracks hasn't expanded my recruitment pool at all.
In Sinope, for instance, a level 4 regional MIC says (in-game) that I should be able to recruit Hellenic skirmishers, Hellenic skirmisher cavalry, classical hoplites, heavy skirmishers, Hellenic slingers, Hellenic spearmen and Hellenic archers but building it only lets me recruit the Hippakontistai. The recruitment viewer agrees with the in-game description.
Why can't I recruit these soldiers?
you need to get the first Hayasdan reform (I can't remember the conditions atm, but they should be around here somewhere)
I can recruit regionals just fine as long as I have the right government type (usually Type 3 is enough). Otherwise, the only thing you need to worry about are native units, of which only a certain amount will be available in certain regions of the empire before you finish reforms.

Sorry, being that this is Hayasdan I probably should have mentioned in the opener: I have the Pan-Caucasus reform and have started the Orontid reforms ("...and Brings Peace and Order" has been built in Susa and Persepolis).

I don't think it's an issue of government type, as in Sinope (as mentioned earlier) I have a type 3 government and have built the level 4 regional MIC and yet my recruitment options are almost completely bare.
That's really strange because it was never like that for me. The reforms only affected my native MICs, and my regional MICs always worked fine and the same as they should. Is something wrong with your game?

That's exactly what I'm worried about. I can't imagine the buildings or unit being messed up to that extent, but if they are I have backups. I'm pretty sure changing them is not save game compatible, though, so I would rather check and see if someone has encountered a similar issue before I try anything drastic.

Actually the export_descr_buildings and export_descr_units are both save game compatible as far as I know.

Actually, it looks like I was a bit too quick to claim my export_descr_units as being okay. All of the Hellenistic infantry listed in my opening post, as well as the Jewish Spearmen, do not appear to have romans_scipii as owners.
I can't imagine how that would have come about, but if someone can confirm Sir Robin's thought that such a change would be save game compatible I'll simply go ahead and make the appropriate additions to the file.
Really sounds like a something's gone corrupted.. either the save, or the installation perhaps s:

The Jewish Spearmen should have the tag of "romans_scipii".
If the save would have gone corrupted, it would not have altered export_descr_unit. If the file had gone corrupted, chances of it only removing "romans_scipii" entries all over the place are infinitesimal. It is likely then that there are more dubious edits to the file, so be aware for any future campaigns.
Perhaps you have installed a submod, that did not bother with these entries?
I am not sure if you can edit export_descr_unit without a glitch. You can make a copy of the file, and alter a single entry and see if that works. If it does, you may as well get a clean version of export_descr_unit, and be done with it.
Changes in EDU and EDB are savegame compatible, I modified them several times. Only deleting buildings from EDB or units from EDU that are allready build/recruited in the savegame would cause a ctd.

I added "romans_scipii" to the appropriate entries in the EDU and the problem was solved. It's weird that it was a problem in the first place, though, and I may just end up reinstalling once I finish with this campaign.
Thanks all for your help.
Ilhan Bey, if you don't have a special version of these text files, I or someone else could possibly just send you a copy of them from a "clean" version of EB that's not modified (like mine).
