View Full Version : New to ETW a few questions
Hello there i have a noobish question
Do newer rates of ships replace older ones? Can you still build old ships late game? like the 5th rates? i ask coz i noticed sakers get replaced by 12-lber Foot Artillery in the recruitment list.
If i allow the 13 colonies to become the United States will they eventually build the USS Constitution?(yes i have the DLC)
I can't for the life of me find a use for Brigs., can more experienced players tell me what you use them for?
Thanks in advance!

1. No. You can build them all even during the end game. A sixt rate is a smaller lighter ship then a first rate. You simply uses them different. First rates are the heavy hitters of your fleet and flagships that win you your sea battles. Sixt rates are good for raiding and souting.
2. If they build the right dockyard they will build one. And you can capture that one.
3. Brigs are worthless. Just a waste of nice trees.
Many thanks for the info, and lol so i'm not the only one who finds Brigs worthless xD

The only reason to build a brig is that if you get it close to an enemy ship, chances are very good that it will blow up and take it out with it. Galleys will often do the same thing. But expecting to fight with them is a whole other issue.
So brigs are good useful as "Fire Ships"?
Btw I'm hating alot on the Galleons.. bloody overpowered heaps of wood with absurd amount of cannons and crew.... thank god it moves like a turtle but it's front guns still wreak havoc >.<

They may prove useful but it is hit and miss. They can be as dangerous to you as to the enemy.

If you have a choice between sloops and brigs, always go for the sloop. It's definetly the better ship but you're already aware of that.
The fireship tactic is something you can do out of desperation during a battle but you've lost already if you enter a battle with that tactic in mind.
Well atm the only use i have for the brigs are escort ships for the Galleons(w/c i gladly stole from Spain) in the trade theater, as compensation for the Galleons lack of Maneuverability.
Anyway i have another question., I'm currently only 4 years into the game(been taking my sweet time) and i've noticed that lately its been harder to gain traits for my Admirals., Tried the method of redoing battles and it does work but takes more effort hehe, the basic traits like Mentioned in Dispatches for Generals and Cool Under Fire for Admirals are easy to get but the higher tiers are quite hard to obtain! its like i'm playing EB all over again haha
Thanks in Advance!

And what is your question exactly?
Are higher tier traits harder to get? Do i have to play more aggressive to get them? or i'm just out of luck atm xD
Same goes with Ancillaries, would like to get the Parrot haha

Don't know the exact triggers but it stands to reason that the higher tiers are harder to get as not everyone's a Nelson but there were a lot of Villeneuve's.
