Before the two of you sneak out of here and return to the semblance of normality that appears to reign outside this Backroom, a word of sincere gratitude is certainly called for. I hope your decision is merely inspired by common sense and not by unpleasant necessities in your personal lives.

Please barge back in as often as you like, I'd hate to lose the two of you from this forum.

What's not to understand? My post is a completely inoffensive "thank you" to two moderators who step down.

Okay; Should I laugh or weep at the smiley?

Taking it literally: Thank you both!!!

Adrian, you've got half of your story correct. BG was moderating the Backroom and has, in fact, stepped down. Your friendly neighborhood lemur, on the other hand, has never moderated the Backroom and still has a green name.

Batting 500 ain't bad, though.

And I second your opinion about Banquo. A gentleman, an intellect, a worthy debating partner, and an all-around adornment to the Org as a whole. I'm glad he's staying on as a member, and not riding off into the sunset on one of those horses they breed in Ireland.

Well, I stand corrected - I could have sworn that His Marsupialness was among the umpires. But the main thing is you lads are staying.

Now that you're no longer a mod, I hope we can count on some controversial polemics from you :book:

You're probably thinking of the originators of the News of the Weird thread, one of the great Backroom traditions. Lemur and Banquo were two of the regular contributors of news stories of men mangling their genitals in eye-watering and hilarious fashion. Banquo in particular brought to light the fantastic news source that is the El Reg odds and sods section.

Good point, Pannonian. Both gentlemen apparently have a sixth sense for Darwinian awesomeness. Long may they post.

Good thread. Banquo was an excellent mod. He never pulled punches, but he was also willing to work with troublesome posters in an effort to mold them into worthwhile contributors and afford people second chances who probably didn't deserve them. At least he was in my case.

Also -and this may be better left unsaid but I'm going to say it anyway - I hope this and other recent staff changes didn't have anything to do with the overblown temper tantrum in the Watchtower. It would be a shame to hand those subversive elements a victory.

I'll do what I can. Depends on what tiny, defenceless countries we intend to invade. :smash:

In fairness, Lemur is the One True Originator of the NoTW thread and all gratitude is due to the ring-tailed one and the hordes of acolytes who have illuminated that masterful discussion. He even gave rise to a eponymous disease! He also had a line to The Register (being a techie type) so I can't even claim that. 'Tis true that dangly-mangling was oft linked to in those days. Should someone nail his privates to a roof once again, I shall - so to speak - get right to the point.

Thanks for the kind words and thoughts, chaps. Much appreciated.
