View Full Version : An exiting situation
Romani campain, M/M, in the 230's. I have secured Italia, Gallia Cisalpina, Sicilia, Sardinia and Corsica, and have taken Segestica and Dalminion. The Epeirotes have spread eastward, the KH hold Thermon and Demetrias, and everything south of there.
Here's the deal: The KH seem hell bent on taking Taras.
Yes, we're talking full-scale naval invasion. Three landings, a fourth stopped. First, a single unit of Thorakitai. Next, a half-stack. It was joined by a full-stack led by a FM. A second full-stack got sunk with it's fleet before it could land.
So yeah, it happens. I've seen movement by ship before. The KH moving armies from Rhodos. The Qarthadastim trying to take back Sardinia and Corsica. The Ptolemaioi sailing off when they're isolated on Kypros. But invasion of new territory when targets can be reached by land? Never.
I assume it's a combination of available fleets, coupled with player hatred. But exactly why they're sailing for me, rather than attack the juicy Epeirote cities this time... It's a mystery.
Good times!

Have you switched to BI.exe? Installed the victory conditions mini mod?
I have only ever seen naval invasions after switching over to BI.exe.
Also, where's your situation going?

I experienced something similar in a KH campaign, I think. The carthies made a 4 stack invasion into Italy... I had to rescue the Romans (I want Phalangitai some day, after all!), though of course the Greek cities of south Italy were liberated ;)
I think I even made some screenshots of it...

I had a very similar situation too when I played as either of the Gallic factions with BI. Carthage just kept sending full stack naval invasions practically every turn to take Tolosa once I had secured it (but not earlier). Though would even walk through the whole of Italy, while at war with the SPQR, only to attack me, their ally, at Tolosa.
Nothing like that has ever happened to me in the RTW or ALX exes, though.
So would you recommend BI or RTW exe as superior?
BI is by far the best ive seen.

As I'm mainly a Gallic (and more specifically, Arvernian :p) player, and this happened in every single Gallic campaign I played on BI no matter what I did, I got tired of BI which I otherwise considered superior to the RTW exe. That's why I got ALX.exe, which I consider superior to both. If I hadn't had it, though, I would probably play RTW exe, as dealing with such a nonsensical annoyance every turn makes the other benefits not worth it. If you already have BI you can try it out, of course. If this doesn't happen to you too, then I think you'll find BI superior.

This is bad news to me. I wanted to do an Arverni campaign next but I seriously don't want to go back to RTW.exe. If this happens I might just FD them into a protectorate. At that point I'll just RP it as an alliance that'll break later, when it makes sense.
No BI, no submods, which is what makes this so surprising. I know this happens more frequently with BI, so I would have mentioned that. But I'm still on good, old RTW.

is there a submod or other getup that sets AI faction goals? that would definitely do it on RTW.

There is the Victory Conditions mod that makes the AI prioritise the regions they need for victory in conquest. Somehow...
