Hello everyone, I'm new to the Total War series and I've enjoyed Shogun 2 a lot so far. I just finished my first campaign in 1566 on Normal as Oda. I had no navy whatsoever. (Stupid, I know) But for some reason, at the end of the game, after taking Date's home province, I got an achievement called "Belligerent Admiral."

I've looked at the description; "Sink a European caravel or the flagship vessel the Nihon Maru during a naval battle", and I'm absolutely sure that I didn't. I couldn't have, I had no navy, and it couldn't have been a vassal, I had none of those either. :inquisitive:

Does anyone have a clue why I got this? It's not a problem or anything, it's just odd.

Welcome to the org, Conkercorner ~

That is very strange, not something I've heard anyone else report. It's probably a bug. There have been a few problems with achievements being awarded for the wrong thing - I was given the "win 20 multiplayer naval battles" achievement for winning a land battle in singleplayer, and I've never touched the multiplayer side of the game!

Hello, thanks for the welcome. :grin3:

Hmm, that's quite odd too. I've seen similar things on some of my other games anyway, so it's not a huge surprise, I suppose. Besides, if steam feels like awarding me achievements for no reason, I'm not complaining.

No, no, no - it's not for no reason! Steam is obviously recognising our brilliance. It wants to give us an award and, lacking anything suitable programmed into the list, gives us a random one instead. :laugh4:

couldn't it have been that the date were in possesion of a european ship, or the nihon maru, and that when you killed them, the ship sunk? it could explain why it was when you killed of the date without any ships.

Some wires are crossed somewhere for sure concerning MP. STEAM has unlocked several MP achievements for me despite my never having played any sort of MP match.

If there were an achievement such as "Gone 7 months without playing any MP at all", that I would richly deserve.

I suppose that might explain it, but that would still be a strange way of earning the achievement. I'd have thought I'd need to sink the ship directly to get it.

well, i think it isn't really about winning the naval battle to sink it, but just about the sinking part. if the faction gets destroyed by you, their ship does so too. so it would have been you that sunk it, directly or indirectly.

Good suggestion. This could be the answer. I know that you can get the achievement by auto-resolving the battle, and if the sunken ship belongs to you (that's how I got it: the first time I auto-resolved with my shiny new Black Ship it got sunk) so the requirements are definitely looser than the achievement description makes them sound.

Yes, I suppose I can't think of a better way to explain it. Thanks for the help.

Sort of related ; I've noticed the autoresolve seems to give slightly strange results for naval battles, for example the Nihon Maru is surprisingly poor and I end up having to fight them myself. (Kind of like defending castles, I suppose.) This happens to me sometimes with the Black Ship as well. I don't mind that too much though, I enjoy naval battles. :2thumbsup:
