Hello fellow denizens of the .org and players of EB! I'm coming to you as an ambassador from the multiplayer section which some of you may or may not occasionally visit. While most of our recent experiences have been of random battles in which we pick our own armies, a foray was recently made into historical battles from our time frame. That is, giving players the chance to rewrite history. Our first battle was held yesterday and was a rousing success. We held a vote which bore out Magnesia as our guinea pig and the rest was history as they say.

This is the replay of the battle. I won't reveal the victor to you but of course if you are itching to know you can take a look at our sub-forum to peek beforehand. Using Livy as our guide, we attempted to recreate the armies of each side using a 3v3 format. Of course the numbers don't match up perfectly and guesswork was required, especially in making a reasonable balance, but we roughly recreated the armies of Antiochus and Scipio leading up to their clash. The result? A fun time was had by all. If you are interested in viewing the above replay, there are a few steps to first take.
1. Go here http://www.ebonline.tk/getting-started/ and complete the required steps as necessary
2. Download this edu http://www.mediafire.com/?5489142v08p4p89 and rename it and place it in your MP Backup edu folder replacing the one already there
3. If you haven't already done so, download the replay http://www.mediafire.com/?xaj14m3wz3s2son and load it up in your battle replay viewer.

A word to the wise, because Magnesia required a river on one flank, there was a substantial redeployment phase required so that we could recreate this important aspect of the battle. Fast forward to the appropriate point of the battle and then enjoy!

SPQR/Makedonia(representing Pergamon) - Shak, Arjos, Vega/Dusan
Arche Seleukia - The Celtic Viking/Rehnskiold, Yavana, Agathodaimon

Currently, we are planning on holding another battle sometime soon, perhaps next weekend. Raphia is probably the next on the list. If you are interested, please join us on the sub-forum. We'd love to have as many players as possible. Thanks and hope to be battling you soon!:2thumbsup:

Oh, and to our moderators, this post is intended for the main forum obviously as both a recruiting tool and since Historical Battles may be of more interest to the general EB body of players than typical MP fare.

I as the most unnofficial and least beloved EB cinematographer, was planning to do some films with recreated battles and such.

I wish I could help, but my current gpu is abysmally medium, so I'll only be able to bring you this little surprise I was preparing, in December/January.

In any case, If you do Heraklea, Messana, Trebia, Zama, Korinthos, Cannae, Ipsos, (Raphia of course), Zela (Third Mithridatic) or Carrhae, PM me personally, and I'll give you a bowl of cereal.

Raphia was played but I was unable to participate. If anyone (and I hope someone did) saved the replay, please send it to Jirsiy's. We do have Magnesia saved for sure if you were interested in that one as well.

I would love to watch Magnesia but it seems a lot of work just for a battle replay (I'd have to make another install of RTW and I already have 3). Is there some simpler way to watch it?

You don't need another install of RTW. I play both campaign (with original edu and other files) and MP on the same install. Just make backups of the relevant files, namely the three in the data folder (descr battle models, mounts and missile new I believe) and you can easily switch back and forth by renaming them with a mp or sp whenever you want. The other stuff you have to dl is limited to the backup mp edu folder which only affects EB when you load up the multiplayer application. It should take about 10 minutes max to get everything in place, it only seems like more work.

Or I can film it... Whatever...

I don't really care for Magnesia right now, but sure... I'll be glad to have it.

All credit goes to Shak who saved the replays and participated in both battles. Note that there are two different edu's so make sure that each battle is used with the correct one. Also you'll need the other stuff required for online play but I trust you are aware of this.
