We all know that rebels don't have navies. If a faction is reduced to the rebel status its ships mysteriously disappear. But anyone who played, say, the Byz in high may have noticed a rebel ship in the Sea of Marmara. Historically it may be viewed as close to accurate - the ship that has brought the iniquitous Fourth Crusade under the walls of the Christian city of Constantinople. But the existence of this ship seems to violate the game rules, does it not?
But this lament is not the point of the post. I'm curious what "faction" this ship belongs to. Is it "Rebels of the province of Constantinople" faction, or "The former Byz Balkan provinces" faction, or "Just any/all rebel province(s)" faction? And if you capture Constantinople and other former Byz Balkan provinces, will it disappear? Or will it just transfer its allegiance to other rebel province and continue to harass the fleets of civilized nations?
Probably, the answer will involve too many might-have-beens, but perhaps someone had game experience in the issue I'm talking about.

Even after you capture Constantinople, it will harrass you (the Byzantines) to the death. It had sunk several ships of mine until I finally could sink it. I am quite sure it is a ship that is at war with any enemy of the rebels but since you as the Byzantines is attacking the rebels and your are close to it, this ship is mainly for you entertainment.
I can only guess but probably it belongs to the Constantinople "rebel" (Latin) faction.

Actually, it didn't bother me that much as when I moved my ship close to it, it attacked me and got sunk. I'm just curious about its affiliation.
It's just a rebel ship, at war with anybody who is at war with the rebel faction. They also occasionally build them if they end up with a province that somebody has built shipbuilding facilities in.

Rebels can be gifted ships at the start. I think the reason rebel ships aren't usually seen is that rebel provinces rarely are built up to the level necessary to produce them. And as we all know, the port is usually the first thing destroyed on invasions. ~

Possibly more to do with that the rebels are usually horribly broke. I haven't seen it in MTW but afaik it's the same rebel funtion as in STW and there I've seen massive rebel buildup and massive troop production once, after some "accidental" faction deaths.

Hi
Axalon's latest version of Redux has rebels producing ships on a regular basis. I LOVE this feature. It sticks a serious spanner in the works for the player by, amongst other things, interdicting his massively profitable sea trading in a much more unpredictable way than the regular game. Hence, the middle and late phases of any campaign become much more of a challenge; well, more interesting at least.
If there's one thing I could have introduced into Gollum's Caravel mod it is rebel provinces building ships.
Best regards
