It all starts with the release of a demo version of its critically acclaimed and award winning strategy game, Panzer Corps. The demo includes 6 missions from the Bootcamp Campaign, plus the invasion of Poland and the first few turns of the Norway scenario. The transition between the first two scenarios of the main campaign allows players to upgrade their army between scenarios and get a feel for how units improve and gain experience as they travel from battle to battle. Also packaged with the demo is a limited version of Panzer Corps’ powerful scenario editor so modders can try their hand at the near limitless possibilities for making new scenarios and campaigns!

Get the demo from these mirrors: Gamer’s Hell (http://www.gamershell.com/download_82572.shtml), Worth Playing (http://worthplaying.com/article/2011/11/21/demo/84173/), Atomic Gamer (http://www.atomicgamer.com/files/94562/panzer-corps-demo-v1-04), Patches Scrolls (http://www.patches-scrolls.de/panzer_corps_wehrmacht.php#demo104).

Well, I got the demo and have been playing it, so I thought I would share my first impressions. First of all, let me just say that I cannot stand turn-based wargames...at all. I have tried playing them before and have never been able to stand them for more than 5 minutes. That said, this one had me playing for about four hours straight (and I still have not completed the tutorial, which should tell you something about how good I am at turn-based wargames :P), and I am probably gonna go back to it. That said, I certainly would not rank it amongst my favorite games, but that has a lot more to do with it being turn-based than anything else.
Its depth shames something like total war's turn based campaign, though it is only military and supply related (no economy or anything like that). That said, it is not confusing for someone who has had 0 or close to 0 experience in turn based games (like me). It reminds me a lot of playing Stratego or Risk TBO, only less abstract and more realistic. The graphics, for what they are meant to be are pretty slick. There is an encyclopedia in game that is really interesting to read through (it is not enormous, but it provides some nice bits of info on the tanks). I had one crash (when moving a unit at the edge of the map, I mention it because I usually get lag when I do that, so I am not sure if it is related), but other than that the game ran fine and had no errors.
I'd definitely download the demo and give it a try.

Just try out the real campaign and especially the DLC`s... you will be challenged. ;-)

Panzer Corps has released to retail in Germany. Hits #13 spot in first few days at retail!

All above is AAA publishing stuff of publishing giants as: EA, Ubisoft, SEGA... not bad for a niche Indie game...

lol, the tutorial is challenging me enough, but I definitely will move to the full campaign once I have completed the tutorial. :P It is not that the tutorial is ridiculously hard or anything, I am just a perfectionist. I load a million times and try things a million ways so that I can win in the shortest amount of time taking the fewest casualties possible and losing no units.

That is very impressive, I didn't think that a game meant to target such a niche audience would sell that well, but I am not too surprised. It is fun game to pick up and play, even for those like me who don't get into the genre. Good luck with future sales!

Thanks for the reminder. Just to let you know, your efforts earned another customer! A 50% discount is very enticing, thanks.

I endlessly replay Panzer General 2, so thought I would check this out. Initially, I was sceptical as from what I could read, it seemed to stick very close to the original Panzer General. Then I downloaded the demo, and remembered that I loved the original Panzer General! PzC definitely has that old PG feel.

The original PG was close to perfect, but its replayability was limited by the fact that the campaigns became progressively more unbalanced in favour of the player - having a chance to experience that kind of game again, but properly balanced (as I assume PzC is) is very attractive.

One question if I may: with having to pay for replacements after a scenario, do you typically need to put aside prestige for that during the scenario or do victories/decisive victories tend to cover your losses? I guess that depends partly on how much prestige you get during the scenario from conquering objectives compared to the lump sum rewarded for a victory at the end. [I suppose it also depends on player skill and perhaps the difficulty level.]

And what difficulty level would you recommend a PG vet start at? I know PG campaigns could be very long, so I don't want to be stuck with trainer wheels if possible.

Thanks again for the heads up and any advice.

I believe all your Q`s are listed here:

http://www.slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27283

It is is hard to recommend a difficulty setting, it is a matter of taste, Colonel is the default medium setting. We have 5 basic settings from Sergeant to Field Marshal, but you can unlock another additional 3 "hardcore" settings: Guderian, Manstein and Rommel.

Guderian lowers the number of turns you have to complete a scenario or to achieve a decisive victory
Manstein sets enemy unit strength to 15
Rommel reduces your number of core units and prestige

I played the Poland scenario (had to repeat it a couple of times to get a decisive victory to allow me to go to Norway), then did Norway and Low Countries. Norway was always one of my favorite scenarios in PG1 (followed by Balkans and Kiev) and it does not disappoint. PzC is VERY close to Panzer General. But that's like saying it is very close to perfection, so that's not a bad thing. The best innovation so far is the making the 88AA gun dual purpose. Marking out which hexes would put your planes out of refuelling distance is a close second. Separating moving and shooting (so you can do one, move another unit, then do the other) is nice too.

I seem to be missing a screen to review my core and other forces, which is a niggle. Also, I am not convinced the game is telling me the truth about when I need to complete the scenario to get a decisive victory - by my reckoning, I am always a turn or two late, but still get the DV. A more transparent way of giving the information (e.g. 1 more turn to DV at the beginning of turn loading screen) would be nice. PG2 had that. I am also vague on when I get additions to my core - I had a core equal to my deployment limit at the start of Norway and Low Countries, but then one turn into the scenario, seemed to be able to acquire another core slot.
