I have a major concern with my work place. My co-worker has been spreading false statements about another worker and about our boss. The problem is that I don't know how I should confront him. He is very stubborn, aggressive and manipulative. I know because I had a disagreement with him once (in which I turned out to be right) and he didn't react nicely. (A client had been causing problems for us so I refused to do anymore business with him. My co-worker did, but didn't get paid for nearly a year). Actually, my co-worker had a confrontation with that other worker before. It was because my co-worker framed that worker. My co-worker kept saying that it wasn't like that, but personally, it looks like a frame to me. I think he spreads false statements on front of me because he thinks I won't do anything about it. What makes his statements even worse is that he spreads it to our clients. I'm pretty sure it's making us look very bad.
I think I know why he does this. The worker whom he makes claims about is more qualified than he is. Several months ago, my boss had another worker replaced. He wasn't fired. The boss just moved him to another department. It was because our supplier told my boss that he had problems with that worker and that he didn't want to do business with him anymore. The person who replaced him handles the job better. I guess this is why my co-worker claimed that it was the boss who put the blame on the incompetent worker to cover the boss's own mistake. I think my co-worker is afraid that another worker will replace him. So he is trying to gain sympathy from the other workers and our clients.
A lot of the workers at my work place do this sort of thing. I could sense that most of them don't trust each other and probably don't like each other. They pretend to get along most of the time, but there are a few times when they can't hold in their anger at each other. It makes it very uncomfortable for me to be there.
I know that there are people who don't have this sort of problem at work and I envy them.
