Thanks - I do hope I can make a career of it. I can sell my books, unlike my mods! ;) (not that I get much!)
Thats a name i haven't seen on the org in a long time. Very long time indeed. Good to hear you're still plying the craft, DG.

Congrats man! I am glad to hear it! Please let us know how it goes (if it sells well, you publish another, etc).
EDIT: Just purchased my copy for the Kindle. I will give it a read after the holidays and then write up a review. :)

Don't worry, if I have nothing good to say, I will just not say anything. ~;)
I really like German, Scandinavian, French, Celtic, and Anglo-Saxon myth, legends, and folk-lore, so I will probably enjoy reading it.

Well, remember it's adapted for younger readers. I shall look forward to a stunning review or a blank space, then ;)

I took my last final earlier today, I came home and started reading. I am currently on chapter 13, but am going to head off to bed now. I will try to finish it tomorrow and let you know what I think of it. So far...well...I am interested to find out what happens next. ~;)

Thx Joker - I'm probably going to have to rework chapter 1 as I've had feedback saying it's a bit laborious.

Well, I just finished it. I would agree that chapter one needs reworking. For what it is worth, I would spend less attention on the Westhrops. I know that it is essential to show why he feels like he does not belong in his world, but I think you may have tried a little too hard to show that. Making it more subtle would also make the chapter shorter and easier to read.
That really was my main criticism of the book (except minor formatting issues on the Kindle version). Overall, I really enjoyed the read. It was definitely more geared toward children than what I usually read, but I thought you did an excellent job. It seemed like a strange (but not in a bad way) melding of Karen Hathcock, Tolkien, Pyle, and Rowling.
Frankly, I am surprised that you could not find a publishing house that would publish it, because I think with a little bit of reworking it would be better than most books of its kind that get published nowadays. I will write up a positive review of it on Amazon. :)
EDIT: BTW, if you wouldn't mind, could you PM me and let me know how well it sells? I am just asking because I have a collection of old poems I have written that I am gonna be putting together over the next few months and trying to get published. If I do not have any luck with that, I am considering self-publishing and just want to see if it is worth it.

I've revised that first chapter so many times ;) Any specifics you could give about it, would be much appreciated. I shall think about saying less about the Westhrops.
What formatting issues with the Kindle version did you come across? I assume you are talking about the Amazon Kindle rather than the Smashwords version. I manually formatted the former, and have tried to get it perfect. There should be no issues with it, formatwise unless something random happened in the conversion. Do let me know! (Doing a manual format of kindle takes ages and various pieces of software).
I'm glad you enjoyed the read (you read fast!). Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to reading the Amazon review ;)
I'll PM you. Poem collections are sold through self-publishing.
p.s. My latest blog (see link on page accessible via sig image) post is maintaining a list of things to alter for the second edition.

Thanks Edzy! Hope you are well! Still active on the Org?
Anyway, a NEW book - actually a novella - out this week:
Jack MacFadden and the Faerie Realm

Since he was a young boy, Jack MacFadden's imaginary friend, Puck, has always been around, but now Jack's thirteen, and Puck's still shown no sign of leaving.
And, if that wasn't enough, Jack's also been targeted for assassination by a faerie death squad...
Audience/Genre: Middle-grade-through-early-young-adult contemporary fantasy
Word count: 25,000 words (novella)

Slow sales, slow writing, but enjoying it ;)
I've just released the third edition of The Serpent in the Glass - paperback and Kindle - and you can now order it from places like Waterstones, too :)
