Also, I was thinking that perhaps anyone is interested in a Tournament like we had in the KotF game? We could ask TinCow or GeneralHankerchief to host one for old time sake.
Checking up about the KotF game, having a Tournament sounds sweet :)

Regarding a Council session, holding one as soon as Bokony can reach the capitol would work as we need to make plans on how to deal with the ERE. PM Cecil perhaps?

Oops, sorry zim, I forgot about your computer.

I like the idea of doing the council sessions, what would people think of doing one after turn 10? Not to be doing them every 10 turns, but just to get the idea started. After that,they would come up at times of particular importance.

Also, i will be taking the save later today, so if you want to get your turn in move fast! :)

From personal experience I think it's a fair bet Ignoramus will be back around. I'd really like to participate in a tournament.

Installing MTW2 now. Had a bit of a scare when I had the discs but didn't know where the box was for the CD Key but it's been located.

Edit: False hope. I had two disc #1s. :clown:

For the past year or so I have never had any problems with games from gamersgate. All mods etc work just fine. But I've heard that Steam is not so kind towards mods and stuff..

I was thinking about the Tournament. I suggest that all participants would make a payment (300 or something like that) and all that money will be divided between the winner(75% of the entry fee) and the second place(25%).

I think that is a good idea.

Either phonics or Cecil could call the nobles together. This would be a very good time for a tournament. Since there are not taht many of us then I don't think it will take that long to process the turns in the tournament.

So, I propose that all participants will play 300f entry fee and turns will last 24 hours. The winner would get 75% of that money and 25% will go to the second place. Sounds good?

V&V? I'm not sure what you mean. I think given the small number of players, we should probably stick to a free for all, but if others would prefer team it is up to the players.

I don't want to force this if you are really really against it, but I am hoping that during this event we might be able to either reclaim, or recruit, a couple players, making things more active when we finish. I think it will also be a great opportunity for the characters you guys have been developing to interact a bit!

I suggest that tournament thread should be created. It should be an IC thread. Also, TinCow asked whether it was a team or individual event. I think it should be individual. There are too few of us to make it into a team event.

Also, I personally hope it starts soon because I'm going to Stockholm this weekend and can't into internet then.

I also greatly encourage everyone to come up with designs for your heraldry, gear, retinue, etc... for the tournament. Having those descriptive details will be great. If you would like to write up some stories, your entrance, things you do outside of events, etc... that would be awesome as well!

I'm Demeter, actually, unless I lost my character since not being able to play him the last few turns... If I haven't, I wouldn't mind taking a new character if Demeter and his castle were better suited to someone who currently has a copy of the game.

Honestly, I really did, I just wasn't paying attention.

The only result of your game problems has been that he has been sulking in Kassa.

Not as bad as Andras though, he is a total hermit now.
Sitting in a little fort with his bodyguard fro a couple years now.

Can someone please provide me with the bodyguard valor for each of the participants? I would also like screenshots of all the avatar heads, so that I can place them on the combat grid. As the tournament appears to be best as a free-for-all, the initial setup will be with the participants arranged in a ring around the outside of a circular combat grid and as evenly spaced as possible.

There has been a question about whether other events, like jousting and archery, could be included. I would be happy to run such events, but I do not have time to create rules for them. Unless someone else can draw up rules for those contests, the tournament will be a melee only.

I have had a query regarding the Tournament that includes issues involving the death of combatants. I had been assuming the tournament was to be entirely non-lethal (like in KotF). If the players want death as a possibility, I will allow it, but I would like that to be a group or, at a minimum, a game host decision.

There are good reasons for that, part of which is that all the characters are beating each other up in the arena....but all will become clearer soon

Err... oops. I just realized I didn't factor the initiative sequence in properly for the Sam/Bokeny situation. I will be making changes to the write-op, one moment.

Ok, fixed. Sorry about that, I originally did the SW area moves without factoring in initiative because they didn't intercept any other characters. However, Sam's pushback from the first melee pushed him right into the path of Bokeny. In that situation, if Bokeny had already ended his movement, then there would have been no second melee this turn, and both would have started locked in combat next turn. However, that wasn't right because Bokeny had a low initiative, so his movement came after Sam had already been pushed back. Thus, Bokeny charged right into Sam, resulting in the second melee. Apologies for any confusion for people who saw the original version.

Ugh... So, it appears I made another error. I moved Bokeny one hex further than was possible for maximum movement. Based on the orders I received, he should have ended his movement at hex 128, not 129. Thus, he could not have entered into the second melee with Sam. Thus, Sam is still in the tournament and I need to redo this again.

Hahold is appalled at the juniors king reaction and the killing of a fellow christian in cold blood. The squire could scarcely have been older than himself, as he struck down Keresce he had turned around to see Bokeny deliver the killing blow in what was supposed to be a mere beat down.

But seeing the expression on Bokenys face he held his tongue, gripping his lance and charged blindly at Bokeny and Demeter alike.

As the tournament is now over, I recommend that all participants receive the Tourney Entrant trait. In addition, all but Demeter took two hits during the tournament, so I recommend that all but Demeter receive Marks of War or, if they already have marks of war, scarred. I'm not sure what Demeter should win as the victor, since that's usually a 'prize' of some kind and should be determined by the IC Tournament host. However, I would like to suggest that he receive the Fine Armour ancillary. That grants +4 hps, which is more than the other combatants would receive from the Marks/Scarred trait, plus it sounds nice. Bokeny should probably get some kind of dread trait as well, for intentionally killing a man during a non-lethal tournament.

I think that is a good idea.

Either phonics or Cecil could call the nobles together. This would be a very good time for a tournament. Since there are not taht many of us then I don't think it will take that long to process the turns in the tournament.

So, I propose that all participants will play 300f entry fee and turns will last 24 hours. The winner would get 75% of that money and 25% will go to the second place. Sounds good?

And 3000 florins from phonicsmonkey as per this post:

To a fanfare the Junior King ascends the wooden platform in Varad's central square (usually used for hangings) to address the gathered nobles and spectators who have arrived for the tournament.

"Good people of Varad, nobles of the realm, I welcome you to the Grand Tournament!

On the Civil War: Demeter was a strong supporter of Mate, believing him the rightful heir. When he passed in the war Demeter's loyalty was passed to his son Pozsony.

Hope you don't regret supporting those rewards for me now, Phonics. :clown:

Very well done with the tournament! And blast for Zim winning, was sure i had you there xD 1 more ability ftw

Bokeny should get +2 dread imho, one for calling for the duel and one for killing in cold blood and heres some options:

Iron Fisted +1 Dread, +1 Law
Fierce in Battle +1 Dread, +1 Troop Morale, +1 Command when attacking -1 command when defending

or upgrading current stats
Cruel and Cunning +2 Dread, ( gives one more dread)
Lacks Compassion +2 Dread (gives one more dread)

i would go with Fierce in battle and Iron fisted due to how i imagine my character and how/why he did what he did.
According to me, those where the traits desirable if you just dont bump up the battle or prisoner dread.

Well, I have wanted to write a story about Kerecse's earlier life but always something distracts me from it..

Anyway, this is how I see it.

Kerecse and his parents were neutral in the conflict until some soldiers of Pozsony's father came and killed his parents and burned his home estate. After that Kerecse joined Junior King and became very loyal to him. From his statements it should be clear that he did not like Pozsony, although he played no part in Kerecse's parents death, that much.

It does get really tough at times. I stand a good chance of winning a tournament as long as it doesn't include horse archery (*shudder*).

I end up spending some of the big fights staying out of the way until the field thins. Not very heroic. :clown:

keep in mind you can still give orders in tournaments, this gives you very good odds onthe large melees...

But for those when you spawn between two huge teams... sorry ur kinda screwed^^

With horse archer tournaments(like in the Khergit lands) I try to keep myself moving all the time, keep myself out of the fight and if there is an opportunity then attack someone from behind. The trick is to stay on their right side since they can't shoot that way.
When I am on foot I also try to stay out of the fight if possible but it is really hard with multiple large teams. For some reason so far I always have ended up in weak teams..
And I know I can control my team in tournament but I am usually too busy trying to stay alive and commanding someone is the last on my mind..
I remember an old character who had a good athletics skill and in a tournament it ended up me running away from a group of angry Nords.. It really must have been looked like an episode from Benny Hill Show..
If there is one city I really hate (tournament wise) then it is Praven.. Only lances!!

Lances are awesome, just couch them and you cant be stopped!
Easy early money and renown imho^^ But Nord tournaments are nasty!

In khergit... yea, behind on the right is key. I like archery tho so i usually dismount for quick sniping.
Also, i always order my men to dismount for way better aim and to move together.

Always best to hold your own back five to ten seconds letting the enemy connect before your united front does :)

I hate the Lance tournaments when it's 1v1 fight. At least it takes for me about 5 minute careful planning and maneuvering until I can get my lucky charge.. and if I miss it then it all starts again..

kite his horse down from beneath him by riding in a circle. Slow down and time it so he charges and misses narrowly, then immediately turn around and charge towards him as he turns. Poke his horse to death, prefrably by the head. Repeat untill horse is dead then couch the near harmless beggar down. You will get the hang of it quickly^^

Ha. I always feel bad when I accidentally take out their horse. Unlike the humans they didn't sign up to be beat with a wooden lance/sword/etc. ~;p

You don't need ship for that. In M2TW you can easily get rid off unwanted avatars. Just find one of these landbridges. Teleport your avatar next to it and order him to cross it. When he is in the middle of it(on the sea tile) just press Backspace and order him to stop. He will then drown.

Straits of Bosphorus were very dangerous in LotR. Many avatars met their end there .. :laugh4:

In that case things will be a bit more difficult..

There is always an option to teleport an avatar to another side of the map and let him attack some large rebel force. Since there are no friendly provinces around the avatar will die.

The other problem is that I have been having a lot of trouble getting the console to recognize some of the hungarian names, the king's included, so teleporting isn't an option.

Also, I think the save will have to wait till tomorrow at least.

Couple things: Most of us keep a representative at the capitol to make announcements for our avatars when they are out in the field or too far away from it.
Also, Bokony would welcome your aid in his march against Constantinople. Next turn he will assault the castle next to it. If you want, getting closer to it and joining in would be sweet ;)

Ya, I'm sorry about the lack of updates, this academic quarter continues to be hellish for me and I was hoping some other people would pop in to play the turn. Mithridate? SeruGiran?

Does everyone think it is worth continuing this game at this point. I am certainly willing to, but given the rate we are losing players I'm not sure if anyone is really invested still at this point. Let me know what you think. Maybe I should jujt stick to trying to get the turn done on time as opposed to waiting and letting all players play the save?

I think these games generally see more instances of inactivity from players than hotseats so if I were you I'd just keep it moving.

I think we can continue and have fun even with a core group of three or four players.

Maybe Mithridate could contact SeruGiran to see if he's still in the game?

Good question, I would say you can take those at 100 for non knight units, and 200 for knight units (cheap because they are just after the crusade itself).

Basically, I want people to be able to get the mercs, movement, traits, etc..., just not the free upkeep.

Hello guys,

given the lack of progress in this game for the past month, and the latest king getting set up to retire, I think we should perhaps put this game on hiatus, or just call it done. I definitely had fun while it was going, but I think I really underestimated the amount of work I was setting myself up for.

My updates kept getting delayed, which really didn't help things, and the timing just seemed to have been wrong as well, with a number of players having to drop out.

Thank you to everyone who participated! Perhaps someday in the future this game can come back, but if not I'm okay with that.

In any case, see you all on the battlefield in the rest of the throne room!
