Ok so stupidly last summer I bought a nice desktop thinking that during college it would be better since I can upgrade it easier than a laptop. But recently I realized that getting it from Atlanta to the University of Maryland will be a problem. Initially I thought I could drive it up but its an 11 hour drive, something I dont really want to do. I could ship it, but Im scared that it would get damaged.
Any other ideas I didnt think about?
This is more of a hard- and software forum question mate.
Take out the hard drive(s), and carry that/them with you in a anti-static bagged, bubble-wrapped, secured box that you treat with loving care and tenderness. Or, less optimally, ship them separately in said anti-static bagged, bubble-wrapped, secured-against-nuclear-attack boxes. Static, shock, high temperatures, high humidity, and hard knocks/vibrations are the death knell of hard drives or at least severely lower their lifespans.
The rest of the PC is simple, just make sure everything is fastened securely, all screws are tightened, and then box it up securely and ship it. Buy shipping insurance for the value of the machine when you purchased it new.
With a combination of arms and legs.

Get a laptop and transfer the data. You will be hauling it back and fourth for 4 or 5 years. Think in the long term. You can't take a desktop to class.

You can hire movers. For one computer though, not worth it.

I can only do that if I sell my desktop, which will be hard to do.
