Hello as im playing on very hard battle difficulty I like a challenge ;) i did little invasion of Epirus :grin: and a end of turn as my full stack got stranded on beach i got attacked by Epirus army mainly consisting of phalangites and couple of merc hoplites and i got crushing defeat :furious3: i used tactics that worked on the greeks but i got slaughtered :L
I just cannot seem to defeat mainly phalangite armies :help:

ps my army was : 3 units of hastati 3 units of principes 2 units of triarii 2 rorii 1 accensi 2 eqvites romani yeah my army was camillan
pss sorry for unit depiction these units that im having trouble with : Phalangitai Deuteroi pezhetairoi

its because you are playing on VH battle settings. full stack vs full stack you are undoubtly going to lose.

I sort of gathered, but is there anyway i could defeat them ?

you would have to give more details about your army and theirs and about the map (high ground, trees etc)

Try hiring one or two Drapanai mercenaries, they should be available where you fight at the moment. :yes:
Playing EB on VH battle diffuculty is insane though.
Good luck fighting REAL phalanxes (supported by chariots/cavalry/heavy infantry/AP units) in the future (the Deuteroi are levy phalanxes, Pezhetairoi are better but still not that frightening, Epeiros, Pontos, Carthage, Makedonia, Arche Seleukeia and Ptolemaioi have access to - and love to recruit - elite phalanxes that need ages to break or even take significant casualties on medium difficulty)....

I would suggest making use of the increased mobility you have with your maniples, try fighting phalanxes on broken ground or in forests, it requires alot of micromanaging your battles but it works.
