I've encountered both types when working with german counterparts. The few that are like you described are extremely obnoxious and headstrong, with egos to match and incredibly self-important. Thankfully there have only been a very small number of those, most all of them by far are very agreeable and personable, easy to work with.

Well, the look from the inside:

Pros
-most infrastructure works well: we got a reliable post, acceptable train system & good public transport in major cities
-working government & state apparatus, though German bureaucracy is sometimes really ridiculous
-good welfare state
-(in most states) free university education
-school education at public schools is imho quite good

Cons
-the weather
-Germans are good at planning, but a lot of people here just can't improvise
-regulations: there is one for everything and i doubt that it is common in many other countries people are hired to deal with tax declarations of private persons

Well I never liked him and think he should not have been elected. But the way he was pushed out of his position by the press... I dislike it and hope that it wont occur more often in the future.

He threatened journalists (of the yellow press, but still) with serious consequences should they publish a story about his alleged corruption.
If I'm not mistaken a policeman for example would probably go to jail for that, misuse of power etc.
So I don't have much sympathy for him regarding the press "harassment" that followed.

Better this than the press caving in when a politician calls.
