I watched the docus he did
"The Ascent of Money" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Ascent_of_Money#Documentary)
Civilisation is the West History
And the China one called "China Triumph and Turmoil"
He is quite good never read the book though.

i watched the TV documentaries too, very good.
his book on empire was likewise good, and quite enjoying his one on counterfactuals.

Haven't read his work but after seeing the documentaries he made I can fully agree with Krugman's conclusion that Ferguson is a poseur who hasn't bothered to understand the basics, relying on snide comments and surface cleverness to convey the impression of wisdom. It's all style, no comprehension of substance

Read it.
Largely a summary of stuff you find in greater detail elsewhere; unfortunately nothing that struck me as original or a "new view". It is nice to have it all in one place to save one from running around looking for "that book".
On a similar theme, but one I found a more interesting read: The Post American World Release 2.0: Fareed Zakaria; 2008,2011.
Not dead yet, but certainly adjusting to a new world of rising powers.
