Hi all,

Not sure if this is in the right forum (mods please move if need be), ever since I downloaded some music (which was yesterday) my computer has been constantly crashing and turning itself off. I've saved some log files from the crashes, if anyone has any idea it'd be grand. Otherwise I'll do a quick google search and take it in for repairs asap.

EDIT: I'm running Win7, 32 bit. I've virus scanned a few times but it's not picking up anything!

Here's the logs I've been keeping:

Sorry I can't write more, I'm afraid of another crash so I need to post this before I lose it!

I recognize this. My old computer would do this at random. The only alarm I ever got was that my CPU was being busy at the moment(busy as in you could hear it). I never found a solution to this.

So, did downloading this music cause a UAC permission request? If so, then that's likely your problem.

A simple to use minidump reader is WhoCrashed (http://www.resplendence.com/whocrashed)? If you can get it installed and launched, it should give you a better idea of what process is crashing your PC. Otherwise, I think it's time to install windows.

Really, the one time I got a rootkit on my PC, even after it was cleaned I didn't trust it enough to use without reinstalling Win7.

Thanks for the quick replies!

No it didn't, maybe it wasn't the music?

Thank you, I will try that tool in future.

On reflection, I did install a newer version of itunes and safari around the same time as I was downloading music. So with that in mind I did a system restore to an earlier date and it seems to have fixed the problem. By now I would have experienced 8 crashes and so far there's been no hassles. I even did an uninterrupted virus scan with no crash! I'm not going to celebrate too early, I'll monitor it over the week and weekend and fingers crossed the restore has worked.

Now might be a good time to use one of (http://www.avg.com/ww-en/avg-rescue-cd) the several tools (http://www.askvg.com/download-free-bootable-rescue-cds-from-kaspersky-bitdefender-avira-f-secure-and-others/) that allows you to boot from USB or CD and run some anti-virus and anti-rootkit tools. Just to be safe. Glad your crashing appears to be over!

Thanks for the guidance and help everyone. Thankfully my problem didn't escalate but I'm sure if it did, you'd all help me squash it out
