Hi all,

I've noticed recently a tendency of the Steam client to want to redownload the entire game fairly regularly. This is pretty annoying!

Is this a known issue? Does anyone have a fix? Is this the right place to be asking this sort of question?

I suppose you could always set Steam in off line mode.
I've noticed it to, that Steam seems to download something about S2 multiple times but I don't know how big that something is.

Hmm, that might work but it'd create a lot more problems than it might solve. Cheers though! :)

Re-downloading the entire game sounds odd.

Some patches can be big though and Steam always automatically patches your game, so if it has been a while since you played, it's possible that it's just downloading a few (huge) patches, which make it seem as if it's downloading the entire thing.

Also, very recently, a new patch has been released (see : http://forums.totalwar.com/showthread.php/37195-Hotfix-patch-notes-%2811th-April-2012%29); I think it's about 130 MB or so, so if you're not on broadband or Steam is just being slow again, and you have a few of these to download, it may take a while.
