This tourney is shaping up a lot like June 2011 with Lazy and Saka and Kival with Aedui :p
Should I take Baktria again? Nah. I'm in of course but undeclared atm.
Oh and to answer Cyris/Yavana's question (btw good to see you back buddy) cataphracts no longer have fear and I'd say most factions are currently balanced with the possible exception of Sweboz, maybe Lusos. Not counting Saba obviously.
Very interested if this can be turned into a team tourny, otherwise expect a Saba generous entry, giving free victories to generous offers (catch my drift? XD)...
Unless I sober up and join for real :P
Added links to the ladder and the tutorial for using the ladder. Giving the system a shot even though we still manually keep a spreadsheet for these tournaments.

From how I understand it you don't need Steam, you can make the challenges in the Ladder on the forum. Score is then entered into it manually (with required confirmation from the other party).
I support Arjos idea here. Is there chance for additional team tournament?

A faction can be picked multiple times by different players. They just won't be able to play each other. So 4 players can select Rome, that is fine. They just have to play against everyone else. In June 2011 both me and LMT played as Baktria for example.

I guess I should introduce myself. I've fell in love with RTW back when it first came out, and still haven't found a game I like more. Might have to do with my interests in ancient history, also might have to do with playing ancient miniature wargames when i was a teenager. Or more than likely both. EB was the first mod I tried, and I keep coming back to it. The only problem I have now, is that I'm bored playing again the AI. So, time for some real games.
I just had my very first online game of eb/rtw tonight, and i must say this rocks! I look forward to meeting all of you in combat. I just need to work out a legal army composition...with maybe one or two variants.
The first miniature army I ever owned were Ancient Indians. I still miss the 4-horse, 6 crewed chariots...

Hi Guys. I'm a bit lost with army compositions. For example, 5 Cavalry Max. Does that mean 5 Cavalry of any type? So if I have 4 HA, does that mean I can only have 1 more Cav unit? Is there a better explanation of army compositions than http://ebportal.tk/wp/legacy-rules-pre-3-0/

8 units max for 1.000 - 1.850
Any amount for less than 1.000
Only exceptions so far are: Reidonez (Germanic Light Cavalry): 4 and Rauxsa-alanna Baexdzhyntae (Roxolani Riders): 4
◦Mercenary limit of 6
◦Exceptions
◦Marian and Imperial Rome: 8
◦Carthage: 14

We do not use those rules any more, our rules are mercenary limits and unit duplication limits, as in, in a certain price range you are limited to a certain number of selected unit.

When you say 2 units max for more than 2.500 , you mean you can only have 2 units of the same name, correct? Just to make that clear cuz for the first couple of weeks i thought something completely different.
Yeah same unit, not cost in overall, you can have as many units above 2.500 mnai as you like, just not more than two for each...

Yeah, the new unit rules makes it so factions with more than one type of a certain unit specialize in that type of unit.

Btw, it sounds far more confusing than it actually is.
All that's left is an Android/iOS app and we're good to go.

As for the ladder, you can't really join until it begins. That's just how it's programmed, don't mind it. It's just a technicality. I still keep track of progress manually. That's a thing I'm trying out this time around. When you eventually click to join when it opens, it should be self-explanatory how to make a game, indicate the result, have your opponent verify it, and then put a link to the replay download in the comment section of that particular game.

Actually this is wrong. He gets double points for having the humongous balls to play Sweboz. Way to go General Grant.

As I'm kind of making harakiri with Sweboz, I'm thinking it would be rather reasonable not to face HA factions more than 1 time.

Such a rule would be intrinsically redundant and unnecessary. Lazy put it very well, albeit colloquially:

We basically limited ourselves to 3 games against any opponent last July anyway. Its not official, but you know when you are either overmatching an opponent or outmatched. If the games are relatively even though, I don't see any problem with more than 3.

You should announce your faction here but actually your first battle in tournament definitely defines your faction. I'd advise some friendly battles before though. Join us anytime in hamachi. At the moment you could get lucky most the time to find someone to play.

Theoretially everyone you want but preferable would be your org-name. At least I would prefer it ;-).

As far as I can see that page hasn't been updated yet. Get the latest EDU from here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?141352-Long-Overdue-3-3). It is not sure that we'll be playing this tournament with it, though, depending on if GG2 can get the next version out in time. The OP will be updated with specification on which EDU that we'll actually use when the tournament starts, but for now just go with 3.3 and get used to MP battles in friendlies. Experience is invaluable.

You can always switch faction until you've played your first tournament match, and you announce it in this thread. You can fight as many friendlies as you want as any faction you want without any consequences as far as this tournament is concerned.
- What name do I have to use in Hamachi?
Hamachi name doesn't matter at all, what matters for tournament games is clarity about your in-game name. The best choice is to just use the same nick as you have here on the forum as it'll be easier for Vartan/the judges, but it's okay to use another if you are clear about it here.

I can't tell your specifically but there is a reason most MP players tend to have two installations of EB: one for SP and one for MP. I'm not sure what you mean that you "would rather not download the whole thing again". The MP-EDU-Versions are not very big only a few KB big.

You can start by reading the instructions on the website (http://ebportal.tk/wp). Odds are you won't. Grab the latest copy of 3.4 from the Campus Martius sub-forum and unzip those files into your EB folder. Launch EB using the multiplayer shortcut, and you're good to go.

It's fine. I am an EB player from way back. Not that I am very active on the forums anymore. And I don't plan on winning either, at least this way I have some sort of fall-back excuse when I lose =)

If you are like me and have EB installed in Program Files on Windows 7, its entirely possible that there is no replays folder and that you have to create one yourself. However, whenever you save a replay, it won't go to this folder but instead languishes somewhere else. Save it as something easy to remember (i.e. BlxzCapo1) and then search for it on your C drive. Its annoying for me but the only way I can find the stupid things without a complete reinstallation.
Also, the winner should be posting these as Storm did, so Capo and gamegeek need to upload the replays. I believe Capo should have 2 actually.

I was having the same problem and with Kival's help was able to figure it out. If you can't find your replays and you are sure you saved them, I'll try to give you a hand if you need it.

For everyone not finding their replays, their is a relatively easy solution: Under C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent you will find your most recent replay(s) even if you don't know where they have been saved. Just to be save turn on "show hidden files, folders, drives" in your folder options.

I was just in our Hamachi chat room talking to some of our fellow players and there was confusion as to where I am looking to find the respective links to each battle's replay. I've come to a conclusion on the matter. Throughout the month, as you play your battles, continue doing what we've done in past tournaments. That is, every time you win a tournament battle, come to this thread and make a reply post saying who your opponent was, and put a link to the replay download. Still, make sure you post the battle on the ladder.
About the ladder... I have decided to make it an all-time ladder, and here's why. I still keep a complex spreadsheet detailing the battles between all players for each tournament month throughout the years. This has served me well, certainly. But the ladder is redundant if that is the only reason why I am using it. Therefore, I have decided to use the ladder for the one feature it has that my spreadsheet does not: ELO ratings. These ratings are also used in other competitions (most famously in international chess). I think over time, as they become more accurate with more data points (i.e., battles), they give the players a rough idea of where they stand among their peers, and how they improve over time. This is why I want you all to continue entering your tournament battles on the ladder. Please do not enter non-tournament battles. I advise you not to put the replay on the now all-time ladder for one reason: replays are tied to EDU versions; replays can only accurately play back if they are played on their respective EDUs; as such, I will remove any links currently in the comments sections of the ladder so people don't accidentally view them in the future using a newer EDU.
I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused on our first humble day of this tournament. Thanks for bearing with me, I appreciate it. Keep on gaming and I hope you all have fun. Good luck.

Here's the deal: you may do what you like with these replays. What I humbly ask is that you please upload them to the site I link to in the OP so that they all end up in one place. If you don't want to post here in the forum who beat who, that's fine, too. As much work as it might be to take the ladder and enter data into my excel spreadsheet, it's easier than scouring through this thread's eventually many pages. Just remember to enter multiple battles as individual entries, not one match that reads something like "2-1". I want to see 0-1 or 1-0 throughout. Thanks.
There has been one instance (at least) of a winner not having the replay. This is what you do in that case. If you are the loser in that battle and you have the replay, please upload the replay but make sure that when you are naming the replay file that you put the winner's name first, followed by the loser's. This is so people loading the replay know who won and who lost in that battle even before loading (this is traditional naming convention in previous tournament replay packs). As for the number, if you don't know which victory it was for the winner, you can check by going to the replay server folder: http://www.ebportal.tk/ebo/upload/tmp
This is another reason why I want everyone to re-upload all their replays to EB Portal even if they have done so at Mediafire or elsewhere. This will clearly indicate what number the loser-uploader should put in the file name (prevents rare but possible file overwrites in case the same winner-loser combination occurs twice in a row).

I was surprised at first and checked and indeed there were some errors with the numbers on the ladder. Let me just say one thing, I discovered to my dismay that the ladder's Recent Matches page can only show so many battles, even if you keep clicking the "more matches" button at the bottom to expand the view. Therefore, if I even delay checking that page for a day or two, I can miss several matches. So it's safe to say I want people to keep posting here on the tourney thread about their matches, even a simple post saying "Stormrage wins against gamegeek2".

Yes this is correct. You put the number of your win (your first win? second win? third?) followed by your name (since you won) and then the name of he who lost.
By the way, upload all your replays to my site. You too Arjos. If you put it all on Mediafire I have to download 100+ replays individually. If you put it on the website I download all of them in one go, and zip them for publication.

Yes and exactly this network is what sent me to a 5-men limited network with only viking and darthanyhow. When I rejoined the SAME network it suddenly worked as it should.

No, I meant that he beat me once, meaning he should have a point against me. To make it absolutely clear, my first game against Arjos ended in a victory for me. The second game I played against him he won. The third game I played against him I won again. So the score between us is, The Celtic Viking [2] - [1] Arjos.

I just realized why the links weren't pointing to the right images. First report fixed and updated to reflect all scores to this day.
Also, just a quick note. A couple of people have fed over 3 wins to their opponents. This is not the only reason, but one of the reasons why I want to make subsequent tournaments bracketed double-elimination tournaments. I want to hear your reactions to this. Would you appreciate a double-elimination tournament? Would you rather we continue in this lazy ffa format? Are you asking yourself what a double-elimination tournament even is? Do let me know.

Capo's played about 20 battles and I've only seen him online and active once. Yavana about 30 and I've played him once and seen him about two times. Time zone differences are a pain for planning this sort of thing.
I also don't think we should make a bracket. If we want to reduce it, we should make some kind of "only x points of battles between two players" or "only x points against one player".
Not feasible and would feel more like a job than a game...

Have you ever played in elimination tournaments? If you have played on any sports team, or chess, or any esports, then you know it's no 'job'. It's the most competitive gaming you'll find. The stakes are higher as your presence in the tournament is maintained only by winning all your games. We wouldn't need to limit the number of players because we can have up to 16 games going at the same time. We could take in as many as 64 players in a tournament this way. If I had it single-elimination we could even have 128 in a single month. We have far fewer players at the moment, so this would not be an issue.
EDIT: I bring this up because I figure it would be unsuccessful if we ran a trial month alongside a normal monthly tournament. The only way I think we could get people to participate is by completely substituting the tournament system for a whole month (e.g., July 2012 runs an elim tourney instead of an FFA).
