View Full Version : Everybody Hates Flash
Why the hate? Why the anger? Why is Flash always chosen last for team sports?
Now it appears that our Google Overlords are backing away from it, and there will be no Flash support on Android 4.1 (http://blogs.adobe.com/flashplayer/2012/06/flash-player-and-android-update.html).
I am crying little virtual tears for the multimedia platform nobody loves.

Sounds like you should organize a Flash mob to protest this, Lemur.
Once Apple got the ball rolling, makes sense that Google would follow suit. Adobe has had long enough to fix the holes in Flash.
Flash, and pretty much everything Adobe makes is bloated crapware. Flashplayer crashes more on my computer than anything else. If there's a viable alternative, I'd be happy to use it.
I feel bad for anyone who still uses Adobe Acrobat Reader when there are fine alternatives like Foxit or even Sumatra around....

There is html5 alternatives for youtube in the settings section of your profile, and a few other websites.

But it's still in use, there is a lot of content I can't acces because of the Apple pricks, they could have told me it isn't supported
What Xiahou says.
)I've also had flash videos play choppy on dual or quad core CPUs before they introduced GPU rendering support. I mean we could already play videos of similar quality etc. way back on 200MHz CPUs but with flash they would be choppy on a 2GHz dual core...

Apple was pretty vocal about the fact that Flash would not be supported.

I just checked my diary and there isn't any entry about it. Maybe I should follow their every move more closily.

I can't stand the continuous updates on Windows, it's shambolic.
For anybody who doesn't already know, you can change your settings in YouTube here (https://www.youtube.com/html5/). Won't make every video play in HTML5, but most will, thus limiting Flash's opportunities to crash your browser.

I also don't check out apples homepage, i don't tend to ask the quenstions,I just want a working product. My cellphone can play them it just fine, apple is just being a jerk here they want to strangle someone to death. I wouldn't like doing business like that, can we keep it classy

YouTube, with an estimated 40% of the web’s video, shines in an app bundled on all Apple mobile devices, with the iPad offering perhaps the best YouTube discovery and viewing experience ever.Hmmm, that's not been my experience. YouTube on iOS has been rather frustrating to me...

Frag. Steve Jobs who clearly isn't with us anymore for almost a year stated when he was alive and CEO of Apple two yeas ago that Apple would no longer support such a shoddy product as flash.
It made Internet news in the mainstream and waves of discussion in the technical parts of the Internet.
The only more obvious way to make the point would have to knocked on your door, and had a stripper gram flash her Apples and then take out an embossed letter stating "Apple no longer supports such a shoddy product despite every chance given to Adobe", roll it up and stick the pointy end in your eye just in case you missed the whole episode and claim latter up weren't informed.
PS
You can keep the stripper she comes from Thailand and has her own plug n play solution so you don't need to supply your own dongle.
PPS Adobe itself is dropping flash.
I like how, at the end of every Flash update, it asks me how to remind me next time and keeps pre-setting it to install automatically without warning even though I keep telling it to ask me before installing an update. Don't tell me that it's impossible to save what I selected last time, we all know who the real pricks in this story are!
The sooner we rid the world of flash, the better!

I don't follow that kind of stuff, I just feel they should have told me in the store. An ipad is not cheap, I don't like it that much cheaper tablets have more functionality

In capitalism, it's your duty as a customer to make an informed decision. Or switch to a store with better service next time, which is also an informed decision of sorts.

No, that is Socialism. Capitalism is $$$.

I hate that. It's extremely annoying.

I understand the frustration. But this was a feature they got rid of very publicly:

Not many companies tell you that they have dropped a feature. Less still tell you why they do.
