So who do you think is the best country artist of all time, and what is the best country song of all time?
Personally, I am split between Merle Haggard, Patsy Cline, Marty Robbins, and Johnny Horton.
As far as my favorite song, probably Five Brothers.

I really love Johnny Horton and Marty Robbins, as they are more of Bards than 'Country Singers'. They remind me a lot of Vladimir Vysotsky. And Patsy...well...how could you not love Patsy?

I thought you disliked Vysotsky.

I thought you disliked Vysotsky.

I think he cannot sing, and that he sounds like he is dying when he tries. That said, I love his poetry. I think it is beautiful and deep, even if his renditions of it suck.

I thought when we were talking about country music, there is only one person who can be the king. The Man in Black.

I disagree she is at least heavily influenced, 'lonestar' and 'Don't know why' especially

Frag-meister, let us be clear: Norah Jones is an incredible artist, she has wonderful voice, face of an angel and eyes that can melt icebergs. She is so cute and adorable that I can't even think of her as sexy (and she is) because I'd just grab her and snuggle her like a teddy bear. She is one of my favorite female musicians. The girl is a true princess.

But then again, Johnny Cash is the one and only king. All hail the king, baby.

It's a bit like the country version of rap, talking wise and all that. Imho there haven't been any good rappers since Gilles de la Tourette. That crown needs a queen instead. I fully support your opinion on Norah Jones by the way except the part where you can't manage to find her sexy, it comes very naturally to me.

There have been a lot of good country artists over the years, but Cash tops them all. I had the pleasure to see him in concert around 1980. Also, I have recordings of my brother and I at about the age of 8-9 singing to Cash songs, goofing up badly and laughing hystercally through them. Good memories. Good songs.

I would argue that Norah Jones isn't real country. I never understood the obsession with Johnny Cash. I honestly hating his singing, and did not like any of his songs but A Man Named Sue. To make it worse, people always call me Johnny Cash because I always dress in all black. (which annoys the crap out of me)

Have to say I agree with that, back in 2002 I'd never heard of her and bought 'Come Away With Me' solely because I fell in love with that face on the cover. What a pleasant surprise it was when it turned out to be such a great album!

Try doubting it for the full song, it's impossiblble because of those eyes. I simply want her

This is the only country-esque song on my iPod. Don't bother looking at some of the other songs by this band, this is the only country song they did. The rest is straight up grindcore.
