View Full Version : Crashing During Rersults, Consultation, and Quick save Screens at checkmark
This is getting to the point of making the game unplayable. After a battle is fought, before one can save, the game very often crashes. It waits until the requirement to click on the checkmark to continue. Error message is simply "Medieval TW has quit working" and some wording that Microsoft Windows will try to find the problem. If one repeats the battle, it fails at the same checkmark. Going back to an earlier save "fixes" it but soon thereafter, it will happen again after the next battle. It doesn't appear to fit any of the stickies. Unloading and reloading the game doesn't help. I've played through VI a bunch of times without this problem and also through my first MTW campaign so it is hardly likely to be a video card issue. Fairly certain all drivers are up to date. Tried turning off my virus program/firewall without it stopping.
HELP!!! (it really is frustrating to keep having to refight long, drawn out battles)

Sometimes happens to me as well.
I'm not sure there is any solution beyond reloading and hoping it works. If you have some prior save, you could go back to that and replay the turn; often all you need to do is one thing different; move a fleet, move a unit-even a spy.
Twice now I have entered a war; fought a huge battle; got to the campaign screen; have total freeze as program goes through the year-end routine; some box will come up to be acknowledged and cursor freezes.
I've been fortunate not to see these problems often. I'm not sure what causes it, I can only suggest a few tips (more like superstitions):
Save your game at the start of the turn, prior to moving pieces or queuing builds. This apparently lessens the chance of corrupted saves.
Don't trust quicksaves.
Don't have other programs running at the same time (browsers, explorer, etc). I think the switch between the battle engine and campaign engine does video resolution changes that can cause strange things to happen. Minimized programs will open, MTW will get minimized, just odd stuff.
I've noticed that it happens most often after a quick save. I don't trust it but I save every chance I get (before moves, after moves, prior to each battle). Do you think not even quick saving at all might help? Is there a way to increase the amount of autosaves? Been working through this but it has happened practically every battle of late. Somewhere, there is a clue to prevent this but it alludes me. I don't run anything (even Yahoo! Messenger) while I play other then the virus program since killing it didn't seem to help.
MTW does seem to have a mind of its own - lots of flaky stuff - but most are harmless. This is just plain irritating.

Yeah, that's it - at least I know its not my PC at issue as a known bug.
PS: I've played other games where little blocky people walk all over the place building things. First time was fun (aka, Stronghold - even if the adversaries were better suited to a comic book) but it soon became obvious that each game I played were variations of the same game. I lamented on other forums that I wished there was a turn based game that allowed one to think and plan while battles were real time. Found TW late but it is exactly what I wanted so I do not want to give up on it. Sometimes I think I t'd off a gypsy or something and I'm cursed :)
