PSG was actually one of my first european loves, together with Ajax.

David Ginola and George Weah playing together on top. Ah, the good ol' days...

Ajax and PSG, roughly at the same time, and I still like them both. Ajax probably because they won the first champions league competition I followed('95), as well as having a team full of players 9-year old HoreTore liked(kluivert, de boer(x2), litmanen, seedorf, davids, overmars). Loved all of those players throughout their careers. I'm not quite sure why I started liking PSG, but Weah probably played some part in it...

That's great, now I can actually like Milan again.

Ibrahimovic knows his stuff but I hate the guy.

Why have you even heard of them? They are pretty insignificant on the worldstage

If you are somewhat interested in football however you haven't heard of Ajax, you can start calling it "soccer". :smoking:

They aren't all that much of a good team, they struggle even in national competitions against amateur-clubs. They have no hope of winning against the top-tier, they are all fashion no skill. Good brand, but not a great team

That's not the issue. Ajax developed some pretty great players over the years and they were European champions a few times. We're talking reputation, not present ability.

The entire dutch league is now basically a feeder league for the bigger leagues... It's no use producing a ton of great footballers if they're all sold before they can play a full season...

Also, no 8-year old bases his love for a club directly on results... A team can be as crappy as all hell, a proper fan will still love the club unconditionally(I have personal experience as a fan of a crappy team...).

Anyway, back to Zlatan:

Did anyone catch his 45 minute press conference? A quote: "I don't know all the players in the french league, but they all know me".

Hmm, so all these Man City and Chelsea supporting kids that have appeared over the past few years are basing their support partly on the fantastic history both clubs have?

Ajax are one of the greatest football clubs in history, their side of the 70s redefined the game and the '95 Champion's League winning side was fantastic. The fact they haven't been able to maintain success on a European level is simply down to the money flooding the bigger leagues from tv deals and the like. A football fan who doesn't know Ajax is not a football fan at all.

I'd say it's more likely that the 8-year old City-supporter made his choice due to seeing Aguero, Tevez, Silva, etc play...

Plenty of football fans have been created by seeing just one great goal... City has had quite a few of those...

Matt Le Tissier scored a great goal every other week, didn't lead to loads of people outside Southampton supporting them. Glory hunting little twats, that's what these kids are.

Ah, those beautiful days of yore. You were so young and inexperienced. But I'm actually an American, dear.

The insane amount of players who have come through the club is reason enough to know them.

Most importantly Van Der Vart & Vertonghen

There is a lot of talent comming from Ajax, but not significantly more then other clubs. It's nice to hear Ajax gets such respect but I think they are a bit overrated.

Tell me about it. Being a fan of Vojvodina (screw Ajax, if you haven't heard about this team, you don't know anything about football), my last reason to celebrate come in 1989 and it wasn't worth much, since I was 7. Nothing since then. Not even a lousy cup. And having to endure taunts from Belgrade pricks adds insult to injury.

There are guys here, one of them being a Dutchie, who assess Ajax over them being internationally unsuccessful for some years now.

And 8-year-olds fandom as a criteria of success. Oh boy, the end is nigh.

You're not a proper football until you've celebrated your team winning promotion. One of the TWC admins is a proper Man City fan, counting as one of his favourite memories winning the 3rd tier play off final.

Bah, a proper football fan celebrates avoiding relegation in the last round year after year!
