Seems my state is host to the latest shooting rampage.

Word is that the dude was member of a white power punk band and an army vet. He claimed on his website that he had been active in the white power movement since 2000. SPLC was supposedly tracking him for a decade (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/08/07/us/army-veteran-identified-as-suspect-in-wisconsin-shooting.html).

Which leads me to ask—why Sikhs, of all people?

(P.S.: For those who miss the reference, Wisconsin death trip (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisconsin_Death_Trip) has been a book, a film, and an album.)

Too dumb to tell the difference between Sikhs and Muslims perhaps? Evil and stupid oftentimes go hand in hand.

Because most people in this country don't have the faintest idea who the Sikhs are. Brown people with turbans, must be a-rab terrorists. We all know Americans fail at geography, Sikhs have been targeted since 9/11.

And likely lazy too, or maybe a coward. Going after people that fit enough of his criteria but offer less resistance.

methinks nazis spend little time on distinguishing between those of darker persuasion.

Anyway nasty stuff he took down 7 worshipers and a police officer with a single handgun it appears. Not even an assault rifle this time.

Pray for thevictims, all the Sikhs I have ever met (few tohugh that may be) have been wonderful people.

Agreed, I went to high school with a Sikh, and he was very much a good person. I'm sure some Sikhs are rotten jerks, but the few I have known have been very cool.

I will be interested to hear if this is actually a case of "they were brown and wore turbans" or something more ... specific ...

We were having almost no shootings at all, and then in just a month's time, we have been having megatons of shootings and almost-shootings. Am I the only one who finds that suspicious? I mean, did a whole bunch of wackos just decide to go wacko all at the same time, or is it not more likely that people are doing the shootings to try to encourage more gun-control laws? A guy in military intelligence didn't know the difference between muslims and Sikhs? Really?

Unlikely.

He's been out of the military since '98. Lots of time to lose his marbles.

If i roll a dice and get a 6 two times in a row it isn't a conspiracy.

Stats, clusters and copy cats. Plenty of sharper simpler explanations.

Certainly a possibility of encouragement from one wacko sets off another wacko. They likely get overwhelmed by their desire to be in the spotlight and get their fifteen minutes.

98 was a long time ago I think it is a good distinction to make that he wasn't even involved in the Afghanistan and Iraq Part Deux.

Like I said I doubt he cared as long as they wore turbans and were brown. Much like the holocaust shooter wasn't targeting only perceived jews at the museum.

There was a reason he washed out.

Um, no. Definitely not more likely.

That man is a terrorist. His actions are despicable. I hate jack-booted Nazi thugs (The originals were so much more interesting and I've always hated the S.A.). Remember when the Nazi party was like Patrick Bateman from American Psycho?

I highly doubt he's a neo-nazi.

White power, sure, but not neo-nazi. "Proper nazis" spend an awful lot of time ironing out all differences between peoples, tracking racial histories and so on. White power people, on the other hand, seem to be more like "white good, black bad".

That is true, it isn't really the same thing as real neo nazi's deeply dispise anything US as it's seen as jewish. That is just the German and Scandinivian variety though.

That would be the german/nordic version, and it's the entire anglosphere, not just the US(usually spelled "Jew$A").

US neo-nazis, however, are kinda like the russian neo-nazi's - both groups were hated by Hitler. They don't seem to know that, however, so they still adore him. I for one find it extremely amusing.

Flattering, really. It would not be unusual for an MI person not to be able to make this cultural distinction. It would not be unusual for an American, period, not to be able to make this cultural distinction.

It's indeed kinda hilarious, especially the Russian ones who seem to be the worst. They are idolising the person who would kill them all if given the chance.

You don't have to believe in the exact goals of an organization to be part of an organization, Horetore. The guy is some form of nazi related to people who hold extreme and racist views for whatever reason and love Hitler.

So a white-supremacist Army vet commits a solo act of terrorism. I'd just like to note for the record that the conservative media complex went absolutely crazy when a Bush/Obama DHS report was published in '09 predicting exactly this scenario (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?116260-Dept-of-Homeland-Security-most-worried-about-U-S-Veterans).

Seems the DHS wasn't so wildly out of line after all.

You don't have to be a member of a particular ideology just because you are a member of an organization promoting such an ideology, either.

You can, for example, be a member of the salvation army without being a christian. So him being involved in nazi-organizations does not equal definite proof he's a nazi.

And if he's a nazi, he would have to be an exceptonally daft one...

As opposed to all of those well-balanced, clear-thinking Nazis.

Sorry, when your team lost in 1945 and you're still going on about it you are, by definition, loony.

It was a real ideology that many an noble or royal adored. It would be oh so nice if they were all idiots but they are still here. This was some hillbilly hatejerk Horetore is probably absolutely right that he was no nazi. You are mistaken if you think it's a loonie-club, the real thing is a little bit more dangerous than that. I think we can all agree that nobles and royals are, if anything, more likely to be nutters than normal people. Inbreeding has drawbacks.

The "real thing" was crushed by the Allies in World War 2. Not beaten, crushed. Democracy versus fascism: democracy wins. See also Sparta v Thebes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Leuctra).

People who self-identify as Nazis in 2012 are a universally sad and deluded bunch. So in your opinion the Sikh shooter wasn't a "real" Nazi? That's true for anyone born after 1945. If you're trying to say that this fellow was somehow a less legitimate white-power Nazi sympathizer than, say, the usual upstanding citizens who salute the swastika ... gah. I can't parody an argument that is already Onion-level parodic.

Bah, the percentage of loonies vs sane nobles are the same as the rest of the planet, it's just thier loonies are harder to keep out of the spotlight and cause more damage.

Nah, the Dutch, Swedish and Norwegian royal families and a lot of the English old money had firm ties with the nazi's, and a lot were SS-members, a superiority complex kinda appeals to their kind. They are still firmly in place.
