Just wondering if you could get a laptop that will play shogun 2 for around £1000

Preferably with a 17" screen

You might want to jump into this thread ... (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?142193-Gaming-laptop)

Ah but I don't have as many concerns as the op in that thread like lightweight and compact in fact I am quite the opposite.

Plus none of the laptops in that thread really interested me, or if they should I have no idea if they did as I like to think I know more about computers than I actually do

Here's a UK reseller that carries some very nice models (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/), lets you configure most everything you'd want to play with. Helpful?

Looks pretty good. I would consider dropping the CPU a notch and upping the GPU a notch, but that's not a bad build.

I would also consider going with a 15" machine rather than a 17", but that may just be my prejudice. A 15.6" screen works just fine for me, and seems better matched to the power of a mobile GPU.

Oh, and I would definitely consider one of the "hybrid" HDs if they are offered for that model. Big jump in performance.

:inquisitive: my face to the first and last line of your post

I want a 17" just cause I can really as it will be more of a replacement desktop than anything else.

anything with a fullHD screen and either a Geforce 650M of an AMD 7870M.

The build above only allows the geforce 650m so thats good

Okay, why don't you give us a link to the model you're building, and I could get a little more specific. If you're building the model I think you are, here is what I would suggest:

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3720QM (2.60GHz) 6MB

Memory (RAM)
8GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (2 x 4GB)

Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 640M - 1GB DDR3 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

Memory - Hard Disk
750GB SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB CACHE (7200 rpm)

Throw in Windows 7 Pro and you're still clocking in at £994 with VAT and delivery.

Random questionish. Which bit is the GPU?

Already figured it out.

Personally, I would suggest you bump the extra hundred quid and go with a better GPU, but that's just, like, my opinion, man. Using this model (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/skyFireII/):

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB

Memory (RAM)
16GB KINGSTON HYPER-X GENESIS 1600MHz SODIMM DDR3 (4 x 4GB)

Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670M - 1.5GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

Memory - Hard Disk
750GB SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID, SATA 6 Gb/s, 32MB CACHE (7200 rpm)

I would have thought 16gb of RAM excessive?

Plus even with the 500gb HDD (all i really need as im coping with 120gb ish now) thats nigh on £1200 and thats pushing the boundary a bit too much

Well, when I spec it out with 8 gigs of RAM and a 500 gig hybrid drive, it clocks in at £1,047 with VAT and delivery. That's a much better video card for not a whole lot more money. Details (http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/skyFireII/):

Processor (CPU)
Intel® Core™i7 Quad Core Mobile Processor i7-3610QM (2.30GHz) 6MB

Memory (RAM)

Graphics Card
NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 670M - 1.5GB DDR5 Video RAM - DirectX® 11

Memory - Hard Disk
500GB SEAGATE MOMENTUS XT HYBRID, SATA 3 Gb/s, (7200rpm)

Is there much difference between quad and dual core?

For gaming? Not so much right now. Dual-core should get you through most of the games that are not wildly CPU-dependent.
