Army Reserve. Not quite the same thing.
As per usual, Python was ahead of the game.

That means General Smith is in charge of a brigade, right? :inquisitive: Not that there is anything wrong with that... :laugh4:

Military, check
USA, check
Serving in active military theatres, check
Reservists get shot at by the same people with the same lethal rounds.
On all counts they are still military. She is still serving. So this is the first case of a serving military general being openly gay.

And yet, morale, combat effectiveness, and recruitment still haven't collapsed...

Indeed, the irony is, morale and recruitment have probably been improved between the troops. Many people are very happy to hear this news, even those from other countries, so the impact within the services itself is most likely positive.
Really puts those critics (who were unfortunately republicans) to shame.

I very seriously doubt she is the first. And judging from her photo, not a single person in her chain of command is surpised by her revelation.
This is not news.

Well the British are known to be a bit more, progressive, in that area.

Its a nice accomplishment but please don't lump stuff together in a condescending package. Being a reservist general is probably the greatest job on the face of the earth.
The entire Army experience is surrealistically homo-erotic (especially officers) anyway. I doubt that any significant number of Soldiers have ever cared.
nu uh..... Dammt your right :shame: On exercises I feel bad for the women; who do they cuddle with for warmth!!!
I think it was more of a morale issue with the joes to be honest. However, with my generation gay marriage and homophobia has become quite disapproved of so i dont think it would be an issue. In my father's navy however it would probably be pretty ugly.

Really disappointed that the first outing was not a Rear Admiral. Had to sit through a 30 minute speech by a RADM today, he had a lot of sugar in his step. Afterwards, I wanted to go and pat him on the back and tell him that I am okay with his lifestyle and support him 100%, but I do not have the balls (and would like my discharge to be honorable)

Now that it's legal, Rear Admirals should be required to be gay.

Norway has either one or two generals.
The first is the king.
The second, introduced in the 70's, is the chief of defence IF he is from the army; if not, we just have one general.
So...it's hardly a fair comparison. Depending on how you view the monarchy, one might say we beat the US by 100 years...

How is my statement condescending? It was a response to Vlads that reservists aren't quite he same thing as military.

They're not. Just ask someone on active duty.

I see no difference in them during ops.
However, as Centurion said, full time reservists (like AGR for national guard) have one of the most cake jobs on the planet, with full military perks and a 4 day work week. I know more AGR crap bags than not, some of them are good, but it is damn near impossible to get fired thanks to the NG old boy network, and AGR soldiers get unfair leverage in promotions.
I could only imagine an O6 O7 full time reservist, getting that pay to go to dog and pony shows with virtually no chance of deployment

:wall: You deserve corporal punishment for that. Be warned, I have major and general puns I'm holding in reserve...and I'm not afraid to use them! :stare:

Yes, Pap. That is a full time reservist position. Flag level officers in the reserve corps are not your standard go-to-drill type soldiers. They are full timers,

Do generals in general need to have served in at least one combat theatre to get to the rank of general?
Some of the reports indicate that her first tour over a 26 year career was last year.
Was this just a case of HR tick a box to get the right performance review to meet requirements?

No deployment requirement. In fact, the General here at Fort Sam has never been deployed. Vladmir knows of a CSM who has never been deployed.
In the Army, for females (and especially minority females) their status as a "minority" has more promotion pull to their career than does a deployment, or even a deployment + bronze star w/ valor.
