All I'll say is "Sword of Stars 2".

:on_madputer:

Unless you hate yourself and hate your money, do not buy this game. Or at least, don't buy it yet. And this is the "lenient sunshine side of me" speaking.

Just thought I'd give you gals and guys a fair warning. I think the full review will be up within the next 24h, but as things stand now, I doubt that it will get any better than it is right now. Ermegerd, brainz hurtz... But I will give it some more gaming time before I decide to pull the plug on it or fall in coma. Both sound preferable to playing the game.

Okay thanks, I was seriously considering it but I might hold off then.

Darn, and it looked so good...

Here is the review. (http://www.strategyprime.net/legends-of-pegasus-review/)

I just needed to get it out of my system.

Now I need a shower, I'll scrub my brain until the pain subsides and sob in the corner for a while.

Im praying that this is going to be one of those games that start out terrible but with patches ends up being amazing.

Like Combat Mission Shock Force.

:bigcry:

This one was supposed to be good.

Indeed. Which makes for an even greater disappointment.

Well, guess we are half way there, since it did started out terrible...

Not that the metacritic is the measure of all things (and it does some bad things to game development) but I always visit it to see what the press wrote and how the fans feel. Legends of Pegasus has a user score of 2.3 on Metacritic (http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/legends-of-pegasus).

Well this is disappointing, but not surprising given what I've been seeing. Both Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/legends-of-pegasus/reviews/legends-of-pegasus-review-6392217/) and even SpaceSector (http://www.strategyprime.net/legends-of-pegasus-review/) have given it poor reviews, and they're likely to be *kinder* to the game that most sites.

I've been visiting Kalypso's LoP forums regularly for a while now, and it's been almost a pure river of flame for over a week now. Not since SotS2 have I seen such fan rage at a 4x game; even the reaction to MOO3 wasn't this bad, and that's saying a lot.

As am I. I have seen it happen -- my current favorite 4x game, Armada 2526, was very "meh" at release, but improved significantly in subsequent updates, and then even more so with the Supernova expansion -- so I have hope.

However, there's no denying Kalypso & Novacore have a very steep uphill climb to make, probably as much as Kerberos did with the SotS2 release debacle (which this is clearly rivaling). I wish them luck, and very much hope that Novacore's first game isn't also their last.

Novacore is a fledgling studio, a side project made by some tech enthusiasts with no prior game programming experience (or any particular gaming experience, it seems) and LoP is their first project. I too wish them nothing but success but I'm afraid that this was just about it as far as LoP will get. I'll be keeping an eye on updates, but I must admit that i am not very hopeful about this one...

I've got a review code for Pegasus as well. Not had chance to play much but ... it's kind of awkward. A lot of the specific complaints I've seen around the internet aren't proving true in my experience. For example, the notorious graphics option screen - I have more than a resolution option, and always have. Not much more, granted, but more. I can also set V-sync, AA level and toggle fullscreen mode. The waypoint mission so many people complain about - they waypoints are there, you just have to scroll the camera further out than you'd expect. I've gone past points in the first mission where people complain about the game scripting breaking down as well, and not had a single problem. I've transitioned between battle and map and back again numerous times without issue, and had ships enter warp without problem. It hasn't crashed, the graphics look like the promo shots, and I get those much-hyped customised ship voices. I've seen someone claim it's impossible to assign ships to a number on the keyboard. Ctrl+[number] works, same as in any RTS since Age of Empires.

I can't get more than one AI into a skirmish game. That complaint definitely matches my experience. I do wonder if this is a problem with the odd UI rather than a bug. I've had the space level interface bug out on me twice; it was easily fixed by pressing escape and the game functioned fine from there onwards. All the same, I shouldn't have to fix the interface. I accidentally got the camera trapped inside a planet once and it took a few minutes to find a way out. There really needs to be a setting for mouse and zoom sensitivity as that's far too low. The game doesn't explain itself too well. Some parts of the UI are the opposite of intuitive. There's lots of rough edges, such as the game placing the camera view on a destroyed space station every single time it updates my objectives during the campaign, instead of placing it on the relevant objective or new point of interest. So far combat appears rather simplistic.

My major problem with the game is that I hardly know how to play, and that there's no resource to support that. The manual is useless. The forums are filled with useless screaming hyperbole. The tutorial campaign thingy won't tell me half the stuff I want to know. I don't want to figure it all out as I go; I barely have time to play as it is.

Definitely a rough game. Definitely. But I do wonder why mine seems to be working so much better than everyone else's. I'd put it down to patching, except I first tried it during release week and also as of last Saturday people were still complaining about the same issues. By contrast, I still find SotS2 to be a complete unplayable mess.

'Tis an odd one. :on_shrug:

Appreciate your impressions, froggy. I have seen a few folks post similar stuff -- that while clearly still buggy and/or flawed, it's not nearly as bad as a lot of the folks in the official forums make it out to be -- so that gives me a sliver of optimism.

On the flip side, Gamespy has published their review (http://pc.gamespy.com/pc/legends-of-pegasus/1225818p1.html), and it's probably the harshest one yet.

I have to admit, though, that I laughed at the following passages:

The first trailer for Legends of Pegasus said, "Forget your sins," but the experience of playing it was definitive proof that somebody out there remembers mine.

The billions who died in the opening cutscene were the lucky ones.

There are others? Huzzah! Where are these other fortunate folk hiding? Maybe there's some useful strategy posts concealed in the same place.
