Medieval II Gold Edition Patches?

Hi All,

I have Medieval II Gold Edition and have now completed all of the campaigne games. I did this without downloading any patches as I was under the impression that the Gold Edition had the patches already built in, is this correct? and what do the patches actually repair? Are they just for playing on line against an opponent or do they fix glitches when playing missions from disk?
