View Full Version : certain factions give your generals better traits??

Ive noticed that in most of my campaigns, If I send a general down to Sabaen lands he will go from 0 stars to 5-6 stars in like 4 battles Even if he has bad traits (e.g. dull/lazy/uncharismatic/terrified by blood)
However if I send a bright general such as my faction leader he will only get to 5-6 stars after fighting through all of Egypt, Greece and Armenia and fighting 20 battles or more
It happens every time. Can anyone explain this?
Interesting, I've encountered similar discrepancies. However I mainly related them to Sabeans being of mainly unarmored nature and lack especially deadly units. Sure they have some of the best light infantry, however even the best light infantry is helpless when charged by cataphracts and shot at from behind - So I always thought the rapid Exp gain from arabia was due to a higher kill/loss ratio than the relatively sluggish progress one has with, Elite Phalanxes, Phalanxes, hetairoi, and even hoplites.
I actually seldom had a non heroic victory against saba.(We all know this is not due to skill but to the general army composition)
HOWEVER, there are mechanics that can influence the character based on the ethnicity of defeated enemies(like "hates smelly barbarians", "hates clever-clever-greeks"...), thus It's at least possible that fighting semites is more profitable than fighting hellens, I'd have to call that racist tho. :O

i get plenty of heroic victories in Greece but for some reason when I fight the Saba, my generals just get a billion stars. I also notice that they lose all other skills. Their influence and management become zero... and usually my generals gain influence if they fight a lot but if i fight against saba they gain nothing

thats like saying you should honour the 6 feet bully for kicking the 4 feet frail dwarf saba are militia they are seen as week if you fight against them you won´t get recognition your get spite for bullying someone weaker and frailler then you
and i don´t know about you but being sun stroked and constantly dehidrated kind of would ruin my acumen also not to mention that feeling your brain boilling inside you own head while you´re still alive kind of screws around with your skills since boilled brains don´t work as nicelly as nice unboilled one´s who had the intelligence to stay out of the arabian sea of sand
but thats just me who as a frail skin complexion and has to look out for excessive sun exposure
could indeed be the desert environment giving bonus on "desert warfare"... and mali on management etc. Normally however I only send particulary warlike Generals(FMs) followed by client rulers to arabia. meaning I don't care much about the management skills of the generals and the Client rulers don't see much battle, which explains why I did not encounter this.

Not that you would consider them heroic but the engine does not really take the frailness of sabaic forces into account.

I Greece,I had 2000 men and won against 2400 macedonian elites and that would be a heroic for me. In arabia i had 3000 against 3600 and that was heroic cause i lost like 100 men

although sabeans arent that bad. Their noble spearmen are pretty shit but their levy spearmen are such a nuisance. They have extremely high morale and never break. I ran out of missiles facing a stack which had 6 of them once and they took out half of my medium infantry before they died. They have 200 men per unit aswell

Chatti youth, and ... Pantodapoi spearmen).
although sabeans arent that bad. They are not exactly bad, they are just squishy and easily countered. Especially as the terrain (while not adequately impeding non desert troops) is wide and open and thus is perfect for any strategies involving cavalry, archers and most of all cavalry archers. One could say their troops are similar to sweboz troops - few armor, but great other stats, they also get a terrain bonus, however Sweboz have the added comfort of trees in their area, which unlike desert HAS significant ingame effects on cavalry and ranged units.
I normally get a suitable general(if KH I take a mercenary eastern or Steppe one) give him some (mercenary) horse archers, a unit of heavy cavalry and let him swoosh through arabia without much losses.

With KH??? wow ive never gotten that far in my KH campaigns. I usually stop when I drive Ptolemies out of Asia Minor. Its usually ptolemies i face, although, i haven't played with Kh since ive installed realistic move mod, so i dont know yet who will become dominant
