View Full Version : Heir reincarnated? Now that\'s very Buddhist.

Expert level, playing as Uesugi:
While leading a charge across a bridge my heir was killed. He was the epitome of Bushido, and learned well the importance I place on fighting alongside one's men. His troops were at first demoralized by his death, but they swore vengeance and seconds later the enemy's line broke. Within minutes of his death his men were charging across the fields, hunting down those whose hands were stained by his blood. It was a bittersweet victory.

Several turns later, his younger brother was due to serve his father - but when he appeared on the battlefield, lo and behold it was my first first-born - with 30 wins under his belt.

Anyone ever seen such a thing happen?

JK

Greetings,
That is strange indeed. This has never happened to me. Was wondering which patch you were using. The reason being that in the latest patch they "fixed" a bug with the heirs and was wondering if that is what caused it.

In the case of Uesugi, we start as daimyo Uesugi Tomooki (4 win 0 lose), then soon we got an heir Uesugi Tomosada (something like that, 4 win 0 lose). Then we get the famous god-of-war Uesugi Kenshin (32 win 0 lose).

If the name on your 2nd heir is Kenshin, then he comes with a free 32 win already http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif But if it is Tomosada (or something, your first heir), then something is wrong and I don't know what really happened. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

That explains it. I saw the 32 wins and was stunned. Tomosada was around that level when he died crossing the river and I just assumed something was wrong.

However this is why I love this game. It is so well thought out.

Thanks for the info.

welcome!
Too bad you lost a R6 general http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

Just be careful when your super general
heir matures,..he might end up a melee fighter. I prefer super General heirs (there
are only two right..KENSHIN and SHINGEN)
as archers to minimize risk of being killed in action... since it is quite long to develop an R6 general.

Yes turtle-speed yari samurai is not good - but my mori and shimazu story are both based on them! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif These melee units are much more honorable than hide-and-shoot archers.

Actually taisho is really hard to kill as long as it does not rout. I remember Target has kindly pointed out that there is a armor bonus for the taisho.

Personally I like yari cavalry taisho for its mobility in cheering up the front line (and flank). http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif WM is a good choice, too.

For any other TAISHO other than the super Generals, I think it's ok for them to be WM or even YS/YA. But on NO SAVE/LOAD games, I'd rather play it safe since I might mess up and get my R6 general killed..I'm not that confident on my tactical/combat strategies http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif.

Yeah don't worry! As long as our taisho don't rout, things should be easy. There are a few general tricks I figured out:

1. If we have little chance to win, don't bother even fight a battle. Call off, retreat in castle, or abandon are all fine.

2. Don't dispatch the taisho himself to the front - he will rout! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif (AI tends to commit this stupidity a lot)

3. When half your men are routing, quickly Ctrl+A (select all) -> Ctrl+W (withdraw). Then a screen pops up to let you auto resolve - and if you do it, probably the taisho's life can saved.

In the Imagawa war story first Kaga battle, Imagawa's 800s men were killed to 56 left - Imagawa Yoshimoto just retreated via helicopter like that. However, it is arguable whether this short cut is less honorable (as a feature). I guess this is the gray area between pressing Esc and wait and see how they die. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/frown.gif

4. Send our taisho to the front LAST if we know this is going to be a very very prolonged slaughter there. The perfect example is a bridge assault and defense. The taisho cheers up his men as well by just standing a little back. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif He is going to sneak to the front if being sent too early - where he is easily outnumbered and killed after a while.

Thanks for the tips.. I could really use them. ANyway, just a question...the armor bonus applies only to the TAISHO and not his entire unit right? If this is the case, you cannot see it then.

I seem to remember getting an heir with over 150 battles once, under the Shimazu or Uesugi clan (don't remember which). He inspired his men to something like +5 honour, but I don't remember who it was.

Wow..who is he? I thought Shingen and Kenshin are the only Super Generals you get as HEIR. I think you need 128 wins to go to R8 with a +4 honour bonus..so to go to +5 honour you need 512 wins for R10. It must have been a bug but I'd like to get one.
