seleucid empire

In several of my Arche Seleukeia campaigns, when I bring my bodyguards to certain areas such as arabia, the steppes or italy, they stop replenishing after each battle. I have a general who is stuck on 16 bodyguards and not replenishing. I've noticed bodyguards replenish quicker in cities so i left him in the steppe towns but it still doesnt replenish
Is it to do with the culture of the place? do hellenic generals only replenish in lands with a hellenic presence? or is it a bug?
It only seems to occur with cavalry bodyguards. with greek, germanic and saba bodyguards, they replenish back to their 100 men units very quickly.

Bodyguard replenishment is a feature of vanilla R:TW: it cannot be modded. Since vanilla didn't let culture influence recruitment, I doubt has an effect on bodyguards either.
Bodyguard size (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?47146-Investigation-of-general-bodyguard-size) is determined by influence, personal security, and whether a character is the faction leader or heir. Could it be that your generals get an influence penalty (or lost a bonus) upon leaving their cities/entering the desert?

hmm could be, but would it stay at 16 men and not heal at all?
To be exact, the traits determine the minimum size of the bodyguard. If it's less than that, the unit will be "replenished".
When a character loses security of influence traits, his unit won't shrink or anything. It's just that, should it lose men, it will only regenerate up until the new minimum. So yes, it's possible that a previously large bodyguard will not regenerate after combat.
However, 16 does sound like far too little. What unit-size are you playing at?

I've had this with one Seleucid general before. He had the 'Believes He's Divine' and 'Favor of the Gods' traits, which have a big negative bonus on personal security since the character believes nothing can kill him. So I guess he also thinks he's invincible and doesn't need a large bodyguard?
It's fun to roleplay a general like that, who gets braver with every victorious battle, and is given to charge into more and more impossible odds, until he finally gets cut down in the midst of a vast horde of enemies!

huge unit size

He must be a pain in the ass to work for, as well.
huge unit size
Unless he has massive security and influence penalties, that doesn't sound right. So I guess it is a bug - but it's not something EB introduced since bodyguard replenishment cannot be modded.

16 is the lowest I've seen playing on Large unit sizes for cavalry bodyguards. The standard seems to be 24.

The security influence bodyguard more severely than the influence. For the minimum size of the bodyguard determined by character traits in huge scale, 1 security pernalty can introduce nearly 4-5 pernalty while 1 influence introduce 2-3 pernalty in my experience.
I thought it might result from some traits with massive personal security pernalties, such as Conqueror (+2 influence, -5 security). And the default number of cavalry bodyguard in EB is 40.
So i think the character may be with 5-6 security pernalty.
I think a list of this character's traits can be helpful.

I don't know the mp situation, but in sp, the standard number of cavalry/infantry bodyguard in EB is 40/80. 24 might be the standard in RTR.

In large unit size cavalry bodyguards are actually at 24. Not everyone plays on huge, after all...

i misunderstood the meaning of "the standard of bodyguard size". A default character without security/influence bonus or penalty in large/huge scale, has 20/40 cavalry boduguards at the time of coming-of-age, and has 24/48 cavalry bodyguards when the size reach the upper limit and no more grows, in my experience (not certain). I misunderstood the standard size as the former, i.e., 20/40.
Another question, i can find the number 10 in EDU soilder line of general's bodyguard, which corresponds to 10/20/40 in medium/large/huge scale. But the latter number 12/24/48 medium/large/huge scale, is there any txt related to this number? Thanks forward.
