LooseCannon1 leading the Fatamid Caliphate
Victory conditions:
he first side to accumulate 300 points wins! Points are related to the respective side's target cities:
Target cities for the Westerners:
Cairo
Mecca
Constantinople
Kiev
Novgorod
Antioch
Must hold and have at 100% Catholic: Jerusalem and Baghdad as special objectives. Enemy team must not be holding Paris or London.
Target cities for the Easterners:
Rome
Tunis
Hamburg
Oslo
Cordoba
Caen
Must hold and have at 100% Muslim, Orthodox or Pagan: Paris and London as special objectives. Enemy team must not be holding Jerusalem or Baghdad.
Points are measured as such:
Capture target city: 10 points.
Hold target city: 5 points every turn.
Convert target city to 50% of your faith: 5 points (only if holding the settlement, awarded once)
Convert target city to 100% of your faith: 15 points (only if holding the settlement, awarded once)
Rules
Each player has 48 hours to complete his turn (not counting weekends). After that the Admin may skip his faction or he can be subbed.
Do not bypass or ignore zones of control to lift a siege (or in any other way).
Do not attack ships in ports.
Armies boarding ships in ports can't stay there for more than one turn.
Don't leave blockaded ports without beating the blockading ships first.
Don't stack merchants in armies or forts to get more than one to stand on the same resource (Merchant Fort)
No surrounding armies or agents to destroy them. (Surround&Destroy)
Don't attack units who were left next to a settlement in order to capture it on the same turn in order to cheat the garrison script. In fact don't cheat the garrison script period. (this only applies vs AI factions)
Don't use repeated offers for bribe to increase your faction leader's dread.
Enable "Unlimited men on battlefield" in order to not abuse when leading battles vs the AI (PM me for instructions, though SS has this on by default)
Armies that are defeated in battle by a player that comes after them in the turn list may not move the following turn. This is to make it fair for people who are defeated by players that come before them in the turn list, and thus lose all their movement points
Armies that are defeated in battle may not be attacked on the following turn, as they are banned from moving, either by the game mechanics or by the rule above. They must be allowed to move first, or must be reinforced. If the defeated army retreats to a settlement or fort, this rule does not apply.
Ballistas can't open anything, catapults can open wooden walls, trebuchets or better can open anything.
Assassins are allowed to target anyone but the players are limited to one assassination attempt per turn. It must be the first action they do, before they spend money or do anything else. Upon a successful assassination the game admin can load that player's save and attempt the assassination. If the results are different there will be penalties for cheating.
Spies are limited to one infiltration of a settlement/fort per turn, and it must be the first thing the player does, or the second one if the player also wishes to attempt an assassination. Upon a successful infiltration the game admin can load that player's save and attempt the infiltration. If the results are different there will be penalties for cheating.
Crusades and Jihads cannot be called, joined or used/exploited in any way.
ONLY religious buildings can be destroyed upon the conquest of a settlement and ONLY if they are of a religion different than your own.
No trading of provinces to receive free troops. If you trade provinces, make sure they have no garrison prior to the exchange.
No deliberate deals that would put you in debt above -10,000 florins.
How to set up your game:
Stainless Steel 6.4 Late Eara, Gracul AI (10 for aggressiveness), Disable Real Recruitment. DO NOT TICK ANYTHING ELSE EXCEPT RR AND THE CORRECT AI!
When the game starts, we pass down the save to the next player in line via PM and in a message here in this thread. Saves are archived (rar, zip etc.) and uploaded in the .org uploader or another similar file hosting service. The game will be set up at VH/VH, follow AI off, Manage All Settlements on, Long campaign, No advice, and there will be a battle time limit.

First off: nice work, looking really forward to this now :yes:
how about changing the spy rule, demanding 2 spies to open gates and a minimal success chance to infiltrate a set number between 60-80%? Previously infiltrated spies have to re-infiltrate if a spy is present. Spies should be contered with spies, even with set rules you can have say 5 spies near a target and simply try each one at the start... odds of success are big.
How about a minimum of 3 spies and we leave it at that? 3 turns of advanced preparation is quite adequate IMO. If someone consistently has 5 spies and alaways manages to get one in I'd call that pretty obvious reloading shenanigans.

But it can be very hard to prove, while having a "no opening gates/infiltrating when enemy spy is present" and/or % limit can be easily checked.
You all know what i think, up to the rest to voice
How would the player know the enemy has a spy inside? Is it 100% detection once you infiltrate?

I really think we should have spies, they add a lot of strategy.
If you have a spy in your fort/city then the infiltration chance goes down to near nothing. An expert spy vs a useless defending one still have like 10% chance to infiltrate.
So you counter spies with spies. The minimal success chance would be to prevent some asshat to reload into a 5-15% chance fort ( now that my friends, is disgusting )
its easy for the admin to check too, simply use toggle_fow and select a spy and hold over whatever needs checking. v low chance = counterspy thus should not be possible to infiltrate. you can also usually see the ? in the agent when you move close and double click. But this way we have an easily regulated fair use of spies, no gray-area
2 spies to open any gates, You cannot open gates if the enemy has a counterspy. (easy to check by moving outside or with other spy, chance extremely low to infiltrate 5-20% = counterspy )

You can't switch factions now as you would be getting the AI bonuses. Myth would need to pull the save and restart the game. And then notify freakkreik because he's playing Fatamids. I'm the Turks (and I've already sent him a pm about first save.)

Secondly, i have no "prefered" spie rules but at the moment I am confused about what is possible...
I don't understand why it has to be that defined. Can't you just state that it doesn't matter how many spies you have in a city but, as previously suggested, you need a 60% chance to open gates to actually make use of that situation.
Thirdly, still have some work to do but the save will be up by this evening.

The 60% is chance to infiltrate, not open gates
if you dont have any rules for spies it can easily be abused, poorly defined rules can be even worse.
Thus i say best no opening gates when enemy spy is present inside (counterspying) and 2 are needed to open gates (along those lines)
Or no spies, to keep it simple but slightly... less exciting and tactical :P

OK sorry for the confusion guys, I must have missed it somehow. I'll restart the game. I think it's best that we need 2 spies per city/settlement to open them, and we are limited to one spying attempt per turn. The defending spy thing will work only if there is a 100% chance for you to discover the enemy defending spy once you infiltrate and I'm not sure that's the case.

I think something went wrong because I never received that from from you, and it sounds like maybe myth didn't either. In any case, that makes sense.
As for spies, I would support simply making it so that you have to have at least a 60% chance of success for you to be allowed to assault a city independent of the normal siege weapon rules.

To notice a defending spy one only has to check with a different spy (infiltration chance) or move outside and check infiltration chance with the already infiltrated spy (aye, thats a reload) Id much rather have no spies over 1 attempt/turn mainly due to abuse. Hell for admin to check and hell easy to manipulate and even harder to prove, but if you go for it then i shall oblige.
Novgorod vs HRE... will not be fun but what can a man do :P Im much more worried now than i was before, instead of a tight and intense war i shall face waves of Germans a little further into the future xD
OK guys let's make it 2 spies minimum to open doors. Two turns of consecutive infiltration attempts and don't bring a horde of spies so at least one would get in upon realoads. Rules, like contracts, are made for good people (that's a saying in Bulgaria). Let's stay honest and play for fun and victory, but be advised that if you are caught reloading to change agent success chance you will be kicked out of this game and might also be penalized further. So let's all agree to play and have at it!
BTW I checked the HRE starting position - they have so many armies it's scary. Their roster is a bit lackluster at start, but it's nothing bad. The Moorish roster is worse IMO.

Is anyone else having a problem with movement points? My generals don't move as far as they did on turn 1. In fact, they now move less than infantry units. I've checked against movement in singleplayer and there is a difference. can everyone check and compare. It's not a game breaker but irritating. France up

My generals don't have any movement rate issues. There are a lot of trait and attendants that can affect movement rate though, did you check for that?

Id really prefer no spies vs humans to keep it simple, allowing it vs AI ( generally it is, i have used vs AI thus far twice )
Much as i trust people being honest, i much prefer keeping it clear cut so we wont have to second guess what ifs and painstaking work for admins

Then i besieged with my main force, took it the turn after. Reduced losses by a little for me but mainly just made my general badass^^
Second time was on a Lithuanian castle with 2 spies, i cold take it by attacking the general standing outside it but he had a lot of cav archers and i hate having to chase them down so i chose to do that. Losses would have been about the same, or less had i not assaulted.
Ive only used spies to reduce losses/frustration, never to take something i could not due to being unsure about the rules that we are still seemingly disagreeing upon
Please, make it clear for the future. As early novgorod i have very few siege engines making it hard to expand fast, while the HRE have a lot of them.
I kinda need the ability to use spies, ive been lucky thus far however with the AI placing units outside his regions for me to attack
As stated, id like NO spies opening gates allowed except vs AI or free use (with a % restriction to prevent the death due to over 9000 reloads)
Anything else is simply a pain in the ass, to obey and enforce alike

OK let's make it clear. You need two spies to open the gates of a city, AI or human. Infiltrating must be the first thing you do on the turn (or second if you assassinate something). If you have a pack of 10 spies next to a city so at least one would go in on the first try I'd suspect you of loading, so play fair.
So far nothing has been taken earlier due to only one spy infiltrating as far as I can tell but plan accordingly and use 2 to make it fair for all of us. I personally haven't used spies like that yet, Portugal and Aragorn have been kind enough to let me maul their armies in the open field.

2 spies to open gates and a minimal success chance to infiltrate at 60% Previously infiltrated spies have to re-infiltrate if an enemy spy is present.
A screen must be posted showing the infiltrated spies as proof.
Simple rules for a simple game, screens for each spys odds is nice but not needed.
This pretty much eliminates reloading and makes spies a valid and simple tool in war. a rank 3 spy gets 60% odds usually and no matter how good a spy is, he wont get more than 20% ish chance to infiltrate a place with an enemy spy in it, regarless of its rank.
The % bar is needed as ive had people reload spies into my fort that i had spies inside... one of em had 8% chance to infiltrate, other 10%
This is borderline ridiculous, thus the need. 30% and basically any spy can infiltrate but still wont be allowed if an enemy spy is present
My main grudge is that its incredible hard to regulate, check and prove anything under current rulesAs stated, its easy to see if the enemy have a defensive spy, odds to infiltrate will be ridiculously low. the re-infiltrate thing is to eliminate the loophole of an earlier infiltration being impossible to prevent from opening gates despite you specifically placing your own spies in the region/fort to counter said spies. (with luck you can assasinat them, if not you have to wait for them to be discovered on their own)
If not that, then id hardline NO opening gates except vs AI as its simply too easy to abuse and way too hard to check (not to mention prove)

Regarding the train a general function in SS - GB units have 0 upkeep, replenish for free and are the best cav in the game (for a long while at least). I suggest we do not abuse them - hire one if you need him to lead a stack or govern a city, but don't make superstacks of 12 GB units. Eastern generals are especially bad.

Its deducted from wages, not army upkeep. The bodyguard detail showing 0 is incorrect

Actually, it's scholarii,(unit size and AP maces for secondary weapon) then lancers, gendarmes, Late western GBs-all ahead of eastern GBs. But the top three have very limited availability and there are other cavalry that are better than early GBs unless you are auto-resolving.
Yes but if you read my post you see for a long while. At the start of the Late campaign none of these are available except for Scholarii. Lancers, Gendarmes and Gothic Knights we can get after the year 1350 or something which is way, waaaay longer than any hotseat has a chance of reaching. Plus auto replenishing > having to trudge back to Constantinople to retrain.
Though Scholarii are imbalanced for sure, mass GB units are a pain in the ass especially this early where we still don't have so many recruitment centres to spam and retrain cav. Currently eastern generals trump western ones by a wide margin, though with the coming of full plate I suppose the west will pick up.

Yes, but GBs require a Fortress and then take 20 turns to replenish. It's rare for a player to have 4 (or more) fortresses in the first 50 turns. In UDS as Egypt (late era SS skip game) I only had 12 generals for my first 20 regions. Had to recruit six generals and most of those guys were 2 star (or worse). Only one was above 2. But as an eastern faction I have a counter for any general in a fought battle. :on_bash:.

SS 6.4 often seem to suffer from a movement bug making it so you can only move 1 square with generals, as loose have reported even here...
It can be overcome by adding +movement traits tho, without too much trouble for the admin
Imho SS 6.4 is by far the best hotseat mod but should be restricted to contain certain areas and not the entire world, thus making it far more intense with less players, faster turns and more action. The only real issue with SS 6.4 besides tending to get the movement bug would be that you can get ridiculous amounts of +movement for generals

But the SS movement bug showed up in Stouff's restricted area game. And they haven't played on far enough yet to prove they fixed it. My generals move less than infantry in this game. I think it has something to do with the game version used to set up the hotseat. For example, I have the original US boxed versions of both M2TW and Kingdoms, not Gold or any later version. I'd REALLY like to know what version Myth uses.

Silver has a habit of not talking about anything in-game unless it was something remarkable. Keeps you on your toes :laugh4: I must tell you Mithridate that there is no general rule that we must tell the enemy what happened this turn. It's one's own responsibility to keep track of their armies and settlements. That we usually do it anyway on the .org is because we used to be very RP focused, and in-character bragging of victories is sweet nectar upon the lips. But don't do it to Silver, he just likes straight up quiet war, in which he's won all of his here.

Saves_late would be proper, if your game is on Early era. Remember to reset your game to Late Era before starting.

Yes it happens in single player as well. Another peculiarity is that vanilla still works.
I posted on TWC as well but I am still awaiting answer.

I reinstalled SS. Same problem. I will try to re-download it and try to reinstall it again. Otherwise, I might have to reinstall medieval (not looking forward to that. :thumbsdown:)

I'm surprised at the quality troops Egypt has mustered for that particular front. Crete for example has been left solely lacking with only militia as defense.

Yes, the disappearance of Bengazi last turn gave you away. I realized you had hit it with seige weapons from a ship. So I've been sailing single ships around. The one army was quite visible from the sea but I tripped over the smaller one :laugh4:when I landed. I killed them first and thought I was going to have problems with the big one but I had terrain and that really helped. That spy you have on Crete (saw him, too) had better look around. if you haven't sank my ships there's more than enough troops around:yes:
This is tax weekend so i must get that stuff done before I can play. I'l get to it as soon as possible.

Please mention any victories against Egypt/Turks in thread as I found a half destroyed Fatamid navy this turn. Next time I may move them anyway.:laugh4: If you don't tell me about it(esp. army battles) I may not realize they're supposed to be frozen. Novgorod won't have any movement so that's not as much of a problem.

Looking at how many settlements and population the HRE has I can't help but wonder is their starting position so overpowered in Late, or is Silver a monster? Also, LooseCanon, Egypt's forces took more of a beating than you let on, they're sort of depleted it seems to me.

I won't be able to look at the save for days so I don't know which Russian general got killed or how anything happened. Life is too busy for me to play one faction, let alone 3.
A human controlled HRE that is not attacked by others IS overpowered. I knew we were in trouble when Silver switched from Poland to HRE. HRE can overrun an AI controlled northern Italy and Denmark turning into a too big faction.
Egypt's not depleted it had nothing to begin with.:laugh4: Freak made some wrong choices in his build order and I didn't catch one error until 2 turns ago. Great Jamas for the win.
By the way, twcenter is crashing for me more than it's up.
