Just watched Alexandra Pelosi's documentary about US citizenship ceremonies. While it was mostly feel-good stuff, theinterview with Madeleine Albright was great.
Madeleine Attila Albright is a naturalized Hungarian, who fled ariund the end of WW2, I. An't remember the exact year right now. But anyway, she spent a few years in England, before leaving to the US and settling there. In the interview, she spoke of her experience with the two countries(this isn't word by word of course):
- In England, everyone were so nice to us. They said "Your country is run by a terrible dictator, it's a shame what's happened there. When are you planning to go back?"
- In the US, everyone were so nice to us. They said "Your country has been taken over by a terrible force, it's a shame what's happened there. When are you becoming a citizen?"
And there you have it; the difference between the US and Europe summed up in two short statements. Ah, that Madeleine.... Not just eye-candy, the woman's got brains too!

"The difference between the US and Europe"
With Britain somewhere in the middle.

Well to be fair, her statement was about England, so "Europe" in this context means England.
However, I feel that the attitude described fits with us living outside England as well.

The difference between the US and Europe is that the US has a smaller percentage of its land actually cultivated, less than the African continent in fact. It's quite empty, even the cultivated bits are famous for being huge swaths of farmland and virtually no people.
It's a miracle that they actually manage to find and locate as many people as they do.
That said as far as I am concerned I'd prefer the immigrants to come here to make something out of their lives and supporting them to accomplish that than just attempting to shut the gates on every economic immigrant for example. The former is productive, the latter is at best nothing but whistling past the graveyard and at worst horrifyingly destructive, degrading and impotent to boot.

Of course - you could look at is the other way.
The Polish Government-in-Exile was sheltered in London for decades, in the expectation of the restoration of Polish democracy.
In England we try not to write other countries off - and we believe in a people having a right to live in their own land, not having to go find a new one.

Ouch, Albright. Now that is one face you don't want to wake up next to. Women in politics tend to be ugly but Madeleine was something else.

If more politicians looked like that I am sure more people would take an interest in politics, maybe even vote.

Google ain't the problem, the fact that failPads have a dysfunctional browser is.

Was this (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_h1WNKJ6gUOg/SLazflPtyKI/AAAAAAAAAPY/95l1aYWhmdY/s1600/maracarfagnarefined.jpg) the way you wanted to show your photo?
I'm using an iPad too, frags, you just haven't learned how to use it yet ~;)

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Same with copy/paste. Completely random what part of the text you select.

That's because you sometimes do it correctly, and sometimes incorrectly ~;) And that goes for copying text too, of course.
Lrn2ipad.

Nah. It also has a lot of trouble with certain sites, it is also completely random at which time a post appears, if it appears at all. This site for example is a nightmare with the failPad, try it for yourself. Even my Playstation has no trouble there. Www.geenstijl.nl try it yourself it's just dysfunctional. Maybe it's the model I have but the operating systems are the same on all I believe. As a browsing/posting device it just sucks. I bought instead of an Andoid because of the Baldurs Gate 2 remake but I expected a much better device I never had any trouble with my Apple laptops.

Ipad's for pansies anyway. Real men use Android tablets.

So, is this thread about female politicians, America vs. Europe, or Ipads?
By the way, the Spanish gal is a bit on the plump side for my tastes.
I hope it is not another immigration thread.
I think the Italian wins over Madeleine without a doubt. To find her sexy I would think you would be too drunk to find the keyboard, or very strange. Maria on the other hand, well, I would vote for her.

Bah!
I bught my pad in 2010, and have used it almost exclusively for browsing since. The only times I use my pc to browse is when I need to download documents in rar-format and things like that. I can count the number of posts on this forum with devices other than my pad on one hand.
So, you just haven't learned how to use it yet ~;)

Since OP is boring anyway, the most interesting thing we learned here is that Fragony is one of those people who just picked up an Ipad to appear cool. Look at me, I have the latest overpriced Apple gadget!
Shame on you, Frags!

That is what we call inward projection; you feel guilty for looking. I am no Apple snob I am a Bang&Olufson snob, trust me we are worse.

Don't worry about the iPad you will get used to it soon. The majority of my posts for the last year have been from an iPhone while commuting on a crammed train.
The downside is I use much less emoticons.

Dunno Paps, hard to get used to a dysfunctional browser. If there are big squares in front of the texts I can't read them for example. It also doesn't help that parts of the touchpad disappear. Sleep mode is also random, sometimes it turns to sleep mode after 5 seconds, sometimes not at all.
