Hello all!

In an effort to imbue the forum with some life while we prepare the next lot of eye candy for you from EBII I thought it would be a nice idea to host not one, not two, but three screenshot competitions!

This is for all of you more at home with a beer and a slab of roast boar: The barbarians!

If you would like to take part please PM with your shot. Do not post your images here, they will not be included in the end of month poll.

The rules are as follows:

1. No duels
2. No picture editing or image enhancing in any other way than cropping
3. All the combatants must belong to "barbarian" factions: Casse, Arverni, Aedui, Getae, Lusotannan or Sweboz.

The winner will be presented with a fairly pants signature unless I can get someone with better graphics skills to produce a nice signature.

This competition will remain open until the 1st December (inclusive) after which point I will post a poll and allow you all to choose your favourite.

Would it be possible to include a link to a guide to taking screenshots in EB? I.e. how to do it, how to remove the HUD display, how to zoom in, etc? Would be helpful to people like me who don't take screenshots normally.

For taking screenshots themselves I recommend the free program called Fraps, which you can get from www.fraps.com

I think you can only remove the HUD (without editing the picture that is, but I think editing pictures for this reason is okay - Brennus may correct me if I'm wrong) is to play with minimal UI. You can turn that on in the settings file in... I believe ...RTW\EB\settings. Can't check right now to be sure, but if that one doesn't exist, it's in one of the folders there not named data or backup for mp or sp edu.

With minimal UI you press F5 to remove the map, with F6 you regulate whether the commands "slide" should always be visible, hide or always hide. With F7 you remove the unit cards. You can take away the unit information boxes by pressing down ctrl + F2 (which should be possible with normal UI as well).

You can zoom in with your mousewheel. You can zoom in even further if you use the movie cam, but for that you need to have the battle saved as a replay first, so that only works for custom or multiplayer battles. To use it,

1) Make a shortcut to your preferred exe (either rome, bi or alex.exe).
2) Right click on the shortcut and choose properties.
3) At the very end of the "Target" field, add "-mod: eb -movie_cam" without the quotation marks. It should look like this (disregarding the install location which may vary):

"C:\Games\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -movie_cam
You may also add -nm for no movies (i.e. intro movies), and -ne for windowed mode, but these are optional and won't affect your pictures.
4) Hit okay, then start EB up through that shortcut and load a saved replay.

VoilĂ !

It's a good idea to listen to The Celtic Viking, his Trophy Collection speaks of his record with screenshots.

Additional simple but often ignored advice is to turn off unit banners and make sure your cursor is out of shot... a lot of people leave it in.

First screenshot submitted by moriluk. Hopefully the first of many.

The Celtic Viking: I think it's actually "-movie_cam", and not "-moviecam".

I'll send my submission soon! I just need to choose one out of two pictures. How many have you gotten so far, Brennus? Is it still just one?

Well that makes two entries. Come on people, where are all you diehard Getae and Sweboz fans?

My mistake. I actually thought so too, but silly me, I wanted to make sure but couldn't check my own shortcut (wrong computer), so I made a quick google on it. Google lied to me!

It's a quiet time for EB. No MP reduces the amount of possible screenshots, too.

That's the point of the competition, to heat things up a bit. Interested in taking part Kival?

As soon as this trio of exams is over, I'll try to make a submission.
