Awesome game especially since it doesn't cost any money to play... which is interesting.

Installed it, made an account, couldn't log in, changed password, couldn't log in, uninstalled.
Really, Games nowadays can't have a good release, can they?
planetside2.eu for the Europeans.
Were some big launch issues in Europe especially as the servers were hammered. But they are settling down and getting resolved.

The out of battle interface is bewildering. I don't know what's going on, I don't know how/where/if I have any experience points (despite shooting a few red fellows). Also I don't know how to go into battle someplace where I could actually make a difference.

Not a bad game in its fundamental mechanics, i was apart of the closed beta for pretty much the entirety of the NDA. What eventually turned me off was the predatory and exploitative business model. Sure it's free, but the pricing model to actually buy things is absolutely ridiculous. Not only that but buying things only unlocks on a per character basis, not per account.
When some guns range from $5-$8 for a single purchase it gets into the "are you :daisy: kidding me?" range. Whenever you are compared to Blacklight: Retribution in terms of your F2P model THAT'S A BAD THING.
I heard they made grinding XP a bit less crazy but it was still on Tribes: Ascend levels of insanity to get weapons without paying real cash. I would rather not play a game wherein I am always at a disadvantage because I didn't spend as much money as my opponent, and unfortunately, that's exactly the direction they took Planetside 2.
Yeah, I looked at the pricing and it really was rather ridiculous. When I saw payment plans for 10,000 points being like £150, I knew I would never spend any money on it.
Also, the combat seems very quick. If is like "who ever shoots first, wins". So if you are caught offguard, you just die before you even know where your attacker comes from.

Yup. I pretty much stopped playing after an hour because you die far too quick. I don't know if every faction has this, but I played the purple guys and my gun had so much recoil I couldn't hit anything.

Like every other multiplayer shooter ;)

Not really, more fragile than Black Ops. With Black Ops, you at least get to see who shot you before you die. This is '*runs along and randomly dies*' territory most of the time.

Best multiplayer ever is Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear, you don't even get to know who you killed, or if you killed them at all, or who killed you, untill the match ends, if you don't take them by surprise or with brute force you were doing it wrong!

I like the huge environments and the big battles they lead to -but jerky animations close up take away from the immersion. And I don't care for the whole model of having to buy upgrades, or grind for them. I'd rather pay $50 for a game where I don't have to grind for anything and all options/weapons/upgrades are available instantly. :/

Well at the rate I'm going of 30-35 certs of 2 hours a night playing it will take me 35 days to unlock my first weapon. That is if I don't spend any certs on anything else. The grind in this game is doing it wrong.

There are some passive cert gains but they are pretty pitiful (talking like, 1 an hour and only if you are logged in), so yeah it's brutal. If you can believe it the grind was even worse in the beta. The real killer is that during that time you are at a clear disadvantage against those who bought weapons to skip the grind. In infantry combat the difference is largely negligible, but in vehicle combat and comparisons it's a disgusting imbalance.
I won't deny that there is some awesome stuff in the game, largely because of it's scale. You can do and see some pretty amazing stuff, but the grind is what kills my enthusiasm every time. I keep trying to like Planetside 2 but I really can't.

I'm trying to like it, I even have a group of friends from the 29th who play. So much hurts in this game like the lack of hitting power from my guns or that I can't shoot down aircraft until I unlock that G-A missile launcher.
