Advancing Tech while controlling unrest

Playing as Marathas - my fav faction, I always run into this problem of unrest for reform. To control it I have to keep the colleges undeveloped and not research civic tech but it slows down the rate at which i get the military techs. Any way of avoiding this ?? I mean keep absolute monarchy intact but speed up tech.

They start as a republic don’t they?

If not switching to republic is the best way to go.

Marathas are an absolute monarchy. I kind of like the one man absolute rule so just wondered can I speed things up ??

Don’t be too attached to government types. Reelecting governments can be a problem but not so big. The others have better tech bonuses.

Changing your avatar should not be too hard.

Look at the screen header.

Third from the right in tiny print you will see Avatars. You should be able to select from those. There are page after page of them.
