View Full Version : Small Mafia Game The Expedition [Concluded]
@Pizza, can't you fnd out by looking when you stole something, if that player couldn't have perfomed an attack?
Just brainstorming here, but for example if you've taken a sword and say the following night there's an attack with a sword, could that clear your previous target?
Mind you, I don't know anything about Skyrim, other than youtube comedy videos lol

I'm repeating what the host told me I was in my role PM.
I haven't the faintest clue what a Nord is. I'm just the messenger.
"Race: Human (Nord)"
If you are a Nord then your role PM should read precisely this way.
Oh! Crap! I hate when I'm wrong! Stendarr protect me! It says human (nord) too... :creep:
Btw a nord is an inhabitant of the north! :clown: The folk in Skryrim...

Also, tradition compels me to do this:
Andres is who I stole from last night. N it was lots of fun. D torch I stole is totally smoking. R you gonna want it back? E's not gonna need two torches after all. 'S one too many torches for me to bother with.

I see what you're saying about the altar unvote: altar - ATPG - I kind of buy the thief role claim, but I don't see what you gain from revealing. Why not keep quiet and - as you say yourself - steal the sword from whoever is voted it?
I can confirm that my shield was stolen from me on N2. I knew you were trying to say something with that whole aBstaining thing… but I just couldn't figure it out. Rather ironic that you were talking about me.
Legendary sword to ATPG. I assume you are not too keen on giving me my shield back?

I still want to know more about you.
Kind of. I mean you sounded a little bit like mafia just then. Maybe it would help establish your innocence if you came clean about who you are and what you're doing here.
If you vote me the sword I'll try to forget how scummy you just seemed.
Are you mafia or a rival third party I need to be watching out for?

I'll give it back if that's what people want. Specifically, the peeps voting me the item.
But I have a nonselfish reason to offer: If you guys keep me alive, and I retain possession of the sword, you know it is not in mafia hands. It might be in your best interest to keep me fully armored.
This is not a sticking point for me. I'll do whatever.

There is no way I would consider such an action to be anything but third party hostile or mafia.
There's no way I'd expect any of the rest of you to trust me after I did such an action.
As a neutral survivalist, nothing I do matters if I am considered scum and then lynched. Acting openly and with full cooperation with the town offers a nonzero chance town doesn't immediately just kill me.
The role I have is often a third party hostile or mafia. Mafia have to be interested in this item. As such, the only way you can even begin to trust me is by, basically, turning myself in and confessing who I am and why I am here.
Anything short of that is definitely anti-town.
I realize it might hold the key to success in the short term, but I will have no way of plausibly arguing my case if I am just plain old caught stealing by some power role, or if I am under lynch pressure, or if I fail to make my intentions clear with the item up for vote.
The only way I'd trust a pizzaguy here is if he put himself in handcuffs first and turned himself in. Therefore that's how I'm playing it.

Such information you describe is not provided, only a little bit about the strength of the item I've stolen.
Any or all of the folks I've stolen from could have been murdering in broad daylight while I looted from their back pockets, and I am apparently too oblivious to such things to notice.
Stealthy, cunning, and skillful am I. So skilled am I that apparently I do all my thievery with a blindfold on just so I can claim to be that badass.
In short, a thief action is not usually considered an investigatory action, and any data I get from it comes only from the items I find. I can find object clues, nothing about personal data.
I see, was hoping that simply taking away a weapon would clear someone...
Although that specific player, could perform another type of attack (we saw swords and magic right?)...
Does anyone know if in Skyrim a wizard wouldn't have a sword for example? That way, if you take I don't know a magic wand from someone, and the night after there are still magic attacks, that person couldn't be the attacker...
Though as I said, I don't know about the video game and it's not sure that this mafia game follows the same rules...

Many way tie makes it easy for scum to swing things, and salmonsoil's inactivity makes him less useful as town and tough to analyze in the endgame.
I happened to visit BSmith last night (just the regular townie visit, nothing special), and was told by the host that he was preparing for something but didn't end up actually doing anything. By the looks of things last night, edse was killed by the SK (red eyes, red text, seems to match) and Andres was mugged by ATPG. Note the lack of a mafia kill. Now, coupled with our host's comment about the lack of night orders, it seems plausible that BSmith was preparing for a kill with his buddy, but they didn't show up. Any input on this BSmith?

Partially to tie him with me for self defense but mainly to pressure him into revealing what he was preparing for last night.

The altar was going to turn Yoyoma back into a human, seems like it might give us some sort of positive effect.
vote: Sword to ATPG
I buy his story, and suggest he keeps the armour and weapons he stole to protect him and potentially deny a mafia the ability to attack.
I can confirm for anyone that's wondering that in Skyrim it would be perfectly normal for a wizard to have a sword, and also that wizards normally don't need a staff or wand to cast spells.

Are you acting in the best interest of town?
Let's assume you are telling the truth. The smart mafia will keep you alive and you'll be a distraction for town for the entire game.
Let's assume you are scum. Then this is a bold move. If it works, you're set for victory, if it fails, well, at least you tried. It's a move that I can admire; it's the sort of gambling that, if it works, makes your performance legendary.
I'm sorry Pizza, but I think it's best for town to lynch you here and now.
At best, you're innocent, but you'll be a distraction for the entire duration of the game; at worst, you're scum making a very bold move with a good chance of succes, since, well, in your own way, you're silvertongued.

I built a Messerschmitt in desert camouflage out of yellow and white blocks. I made an own blueprint for it so I can build it again.
I kept plenty of my old legos, almost all of them medieval lego. It saddens me to see all these themed legos; but they still sell some generic medieval ones (Kingdoms it is called nowadays?).

I'm going to unvote:, vote: ATPG along with Andres. It is good to have some pressure I think this round as we are already getting to the point where 3rd party and Scum are probably matching town in numbers. I actually buy Pizzas thief claim, but I agree with Andres that it is the type of bold scum move he would likely feel compelled to make. Pizza states he won't vote if he doesn't get the sword, so whether he's town or not - he's a self confessed distraction. - and there is the chance that if we vote him the sword he might just foot pad off and win a solo victory. I'd recommend we make this lynch close and see who gets twitchiest.

End of Day 5
--------------------------------------------
Swords were drawn, voices were raised and threats shouted. The expedition was devolving into chaos. The second in command attempted to control them, but it was no use. Slights both real and imagined ignited the flames of fury, and as accusations were bandied around, the tension was palpable. With a grimace, the second in command pushed his way to the sword and pulled it out of its sheath, the resulting sound drew the attention of the group.
"Enough! Enough fighting. The enemy is waiting for us to destroy ourselves. We must not become as lowly as them. Now is the time for order. Half of you will search for an exit, and the rest of you will lay your cases."
The group looked at him with anger, which simmered as they realised the truth of the situation. They could not let themselves become monsters. The voices lowered, and the group broke up. The second in command smiled wearily, and began to talk to his fellows.
"There is a passageway behind the statue's arm, it seems to lead downwards for some time." one of the members shouted.
The second in command nodded, and ordered the group to march, there was no consensus for a lynch at all. He passed the sword to ATPG, and lead the column onwards, past Edse's dead body. The group had given up trying to bury the bodies after Jarrema died. They were led into a narrow dark passage, which spiralled down into an opening. They set up camp there, awaiting the night.

Due to a lack of feedback from those voting me the sword, I am publicly deciding, barring objections, to:
1) Stop stealing. If you trust me with the sword, then I shouldn't need to prove my whereabouts every night. If this changes, I'd be more than happy to as well. I do not require any further items.
2) Self-protect. With the armor I have, plus the bonuses for remaining awake, I should be in good shape if I essentially guard myself.
3) Retain the shield and helm, that I might keep the sword safe.
4) Tomorrow I will put the other sword (10 damage) up for a vote. In all likelihood it should be safe back in the hands of the person I stole it from. Unless there's a specific reason to give it to someone else.
5) Accuse Andres of being a poopyhead.
Night over. Writeup to come.
End of Night 5
--------------------------------------------
Every story needs a hero. And tonight, Autolysis man (otherwise known as autolycus) was once again doing his duty to the good people of Skyrim and the expedition. His mission was to see the expedition safe, and with his awesome powers of self digestion, he was ready to stop any threat!
We join our hero as he is making his way around the opening to find somewhere to wait and watch for the villainy that will surely unfold. Each step he takes leaves the imprint of hope and fellowship, spreading friendship to all. However, this night was not his night. A figure with red eyes began to approach him, sword drawn. His follower was soon behind him. Autolysis man knew he was in for a fight tonight.
"Stop foul villain! None shall stop the mighty Autolysis man!" he yelled bravely.
"Your death approaches, fool."
"Your overconfidence is your weakness! I am autolysis man, with the power of self digestion! Fear me evil beings!" he yelled, in a heroic tone.
The figure with red eyes stopped, and turned to the other man. "Did he just-"
"Yep."
"What kind-"
"I know."
"But-"
"Yes."
A stunned silence followed. Our dashing hero watched as the two figures exchanged looks, obviously scared of his mighty power.
"Can I just kill him?"
"That's what we said we were going to do."
"But won't he just kill himself?"
"Probably not."
"But his power-"
"Steve, we don't have time for this. Just kill him."
The red eyed figure approached Autolysis man.
"Stop villain, and face the power of my arm chewing!" Autolysis man said between bites of his arm.
"What kind of power is that?" the figure said utterly confused.
"JUST KILL HIM!"
The figure shrugged and sliced our hero in half. However, he was still alive (barely), and still chewing his arm.
The figure shrugged his shoulders and walked off. The other man walked over, and before our dashing hero could utter his brave words, he was impaled with an ice spear and died.
----
Andres was wandering around the opening, trying to walk off the hangover he still had from earlier. He eventually noticed that someone was following him, and being quite obvious about it. He turned around and faced his follower. "What do you want?"
"What do you think, pretty boy?"
Andres blushed.
"Shut your eyes and I'll give you a nice big present."
Andres shut his eyes as asked.
And recieved a rock in the face.
He woke up later, drained and with bite marks. He sighed and went back to camp.
----
The next morning, the expedition saw the gruesome sight of autolycus. Sighing, they packed up their camp and began to move out. However, not long after packing up, they realised they had two massive golden doors blocking their path. They could choose the left door or the right door. Both doors would require a blood sacrifice to enter, like the first door. Could they be near the end of their journey?

The sword is powerful. It causes 25 damage.
However, it's not at its full potential in its present state. Given what the game host told me about it, there exists a role in our party capable of enchanting the weapon to restore it to its full power.
I do not require it to be powered up for my win condition, so I am passing this along to you as a point of interest. If you should perhaps wish for me to use the sword, you may want to restore it to its natural state with the power of an enchantment or "tools" which I have no personal knowledge of.
What is interesting about the sword is that it can be restored to full power on its own, by being used to slay a daedra. Therefore I simply need your best guess as to who the daedra is.
I'd like to put the steel non-legendary sword up for a vote today, mister game host.

Actually, if you have strong evidence someone is guilty, you'll want me to kill them personally with the legendary sword of awesomeness.
Then you'll have a sword that is forever restored to its original glory, and you'll also have a dead mafioso, and a much stronger chance that they come after me instead of the rest of you.

A brief synopsis: After experimenting with some red herrings mushrooms, and stealing a few peoples run of the mill swords and shields, ATPG (who has claimed 3rd party town 'Thief') has apparently achieved his personal objective by gaining possession of a legendary sword. Andres has been stumbling around drunk and getting beaten and bitten. This is since we have systematically lynched/lost what looks to be all of our town power roles. To be fair Yoyoma did resussitate after being night killed, but he appeared to be a demon so we lynched him - turned out he was the scout, who had prevented us from having to make a blood sacrifice on D1. The Altar (we didn't use) would have turned him back into a human.

Why vote Andres Riedquat? - Andres and Pizza are the only two I feel reasonably sure are town right now.
Andres done got bit. However if the vampire works like they do in Skyrim it should probably take a while (3 days in Skyrim) for vampirism to kick in, and even if Andres becomes a vampire he may still remain town. The host may even have given us a method to cure his affliction. Surely Andres has received some kind of information from the host if any of this is the case. Information that he would gladly devulge?
I also just noticed that Andres got bludgeoned by a flirtatious assailant on night 4 as well. And woke up feeling drained. Perhaps the vamp had to feed twice to convert him? Or perhaps the vampire just needs to keep feeding to prevent its vampirism from becoming visible (in Skyrim if a vampire doesn't feed for 4 days NPCs can more easily see that it is a vampire(except in the Dawnguard DLC), but then why target the same person twice?
vote: Andres to get him talking. I'm also interested in why you think he is town Lazy.

I find you scummy as hell, voting for every innocent possible in every phase.
Now, do you suspect anybody of anything? I don't! The only clear thing to me is Andres has been the victim of a vampire two nights in a row, do you know what happens to vampire's victims after a while? they convert themselves. Now if encouraging discussion in a phase nobody said anything is scummy, I'm guilty!
And no, Pizza I don't know who the daedra are and don't think attacking blindly is the way to go. I'm interested what people think about the red eyed attacker, do you think he is daedra, vampire, wood elf?
Unvote, vote: Lazy McCrow
I have no idea what is happening to me. The host told me I lost some hit points and that I got bitten. I have no idea if it's the attacker who bites me (and is a vampire) or if it's just the host toying with us and me getting bitten by a rat or some other nasty creature.
I've been wondering if I should ask to get lynched to prevent me from turning into a vampire, but I'm not sure if I'm going to turn into a vampire or if my attacker will just keep sucking my blood until I'm dead. It's also possible that becoming a vampire won't change my allignment at all.
In short: I have no clue, but I'm very curious to see what's going to happen. I'd appreciate being kept alive, simply because I really want to know what's going to happen to me.

I'm guessing the vampire is the third faction then, surely with some kind of recruiting power. In the games you get porphyric hemophilia just by getting hit by a sword of a vampire, and will become one pretty soon after. Andres' victory conditions and alignment could well have changed already, it's not as if he'd tell us if they did.
Obviously I'd rather take out the starting vampire, or better yet the mafia, but considering I have no idea who that is I will:

I believe you are town, and not sure if the vampire or whatever it is, isn't town, it can be third party or town aligned with some particular personal goal, but as I said earlier, is the only thing we got so far and we need people talking.

Vote: Left, magic coin toss...
Mine was an OMGUS vote, yours? :stare: I start to be concerned when people agree with my analysis...
Obviously I'd rather take out the starting vampire, or better yet the mafia, but considering I have no idea who that is I will:
vote:Andres
One vampire is enough.
Also vote:left just because.
That is what I just said, nothing new to bring here? What do you think about the attackers so far?

I thought the invitation to discourse, followed by keeping to a rather objective story recap and disappearing, wasn't so townie-like...

Woah, not so fast, Arjos.
vote: Andres. I don’t like this vampire business.
Let’s go to the Right.
Before I vote, I'd just like to ask: BSmith, what were you preparing for the night before last? The red-eyes fellow showing up with somebody casting ice spears suggests that he may be a mafioso after all, which would invalidate my earlier reasoning, but it would still be nice to know.
I was attempting to visit edse, but he apparently got killed before I got there.
Of the two people who stand any chance of being lynched today I find Andres to be less suspicious, so vote: Lazy McCrow. Also, we should all lynch BSmith tomorrow.
And vote: Left. Communism FTW! :beam:

You know what Andres, I feel for you. You haven't been acting scummy at all and having re-read the write ups it is far from certain that you will turn into a vampire. Lynching you just because there is a slight possibility seems pretty harsh.
Mr. Crow on the other hand has been arousing my suspicions all game. Two phases in a row now he has started off outright stating that I am the glowy red eyed thing before going on to switch his vote to various others at the tiniest provocation. This is unhelpful at the very best. Tying the vote in the last phase didn't help either, the lynch has always been the town's greatest weapon and there have been far too many no-lynches in this game.

End of Day 6
--------------------------------------------
The expedition was on a hunt. Someone had been biting the members of the town, and fear of a vampirism cult was at the forefront of their minds. The group eventually chose LazyMcCrow to be lynched, as no doubt she was the cause of the bites. As they dragged her kicking and screaming to the altar, a faint sound of laughter could be heard, almost mocking them. Nevertheless they carried on, and tied her to the altar.
The second in command asked for last words.
She spat at the ground. "You fools. You think that just because I am a vampire means I will try to convert you? Nonsense. I am not here to convert anyone, none of you will turn to vampires. Your paranoia will be the death of you all."
The second in command nodded, and they set to her with sword and shield until she was a bloody mess. As she died, the left door began to open. Inside was hordes of Dwemer treasure, coins stacked higher then the eye could see. Statues and weapons and everything that they could ever need, all shiny golden, even in this dank cave. Magic must be protecting the treasure. They would loot it tomorrow, and hopefully get out of this godsforsaken cave.

Given how few people are voting and also given how we've hit no mafia I kind of feel obligated to give town a helping hand here since they were so nice to me.
Unless the folks who helped me were all mafia, in which case you might want to tell me to sit down and shut up. I have a track record of hurting scumbags with my stabby attempts.

End of Night 6
--------------------------------------------
Tonight was the end of Andres. He lay against a wall, simply awaiting morning. As a figure approached him, he drew his sword and stood wearily.
"Last words fool?"
"A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight!"
The man laughed and decapitated Andres with one blow. The Hero of the West was slain.
----
Ishmael was unprepared for the dark figure approaching him. The red eyes signified what he knew all too well. Sword at the ready, he prepared for the fight. The figure launched a heavy blow at Ishmael as he rolled to the side. Another swing barely missed Ishamel's head. But the third struck, before Ishmael could react, and he slumped the ground, he sword fell from his hands and clattered on the rocky floor.
The figure left as soon as it had come, and Ishmael eventually managed to make it to camp, bleeding profusely, but still alive.
The expedition woke to find Andres dead, as they feared. Nevertheless they had to finish what they started. Using the diary, they cast the spells necessary to dispel the wards around the treasure. As they gathered it up, they began to bicker over who would carry it. Only when the matter is settled, would they leave. Besides, everyone wanted treasure to take. It would be another long day, and the expedition was growing shorter. Tempers flaring. Danger was ahead.
Vote for the treasure in purple.

vote: BSmith. I visited him N4, and was informed that he was preparing for an action but didn't end up going through with anything. There was only one kill that night, but he claims he was preparing to visit edse but wasn't able to do so because edse was killled that night. Firstly, it seems awfully coincidental that he happened to be planning to visit the only murder victim on the night that the mafia seemed to be suffering from inactivity (particularly given our host's comment about the low number of orders that night). Secondly, it seems odd game-mechanics wise that an investigative action (visiting) would take place after a murder, considering that it's been the other way around in pretty much every mafia game I've played here. The simpler interpretation is that BSmith was preparing for a kill, but his partner didn't show up.
vote: Ishmael for the treasure, because I'm greedy and haven't gotten anything special yet.

I'll be very interested to see how Pizza behaves from now on - if he's been pulling the wool over our eyes then I applaud him for it - I'm looking forward to BSmiths response too. Ishmael may be pushing for an easy lynch in the knowledge that victory is just a short dash away for the scum. I still think Riedquat is the Werewolf, but assume he is town and that his personal victory condition has been met with my death. Elite Ferret has been dinging for me all game, but hell - I've been wrong about everything else so far
I'll simply quote myself:

For his beahviour yesterday and the plausible suspicions aired by ATPG and Riedquat.
I can buy BSmith's alibi. I can see why Visorslash would make visiting happen after kills, there's no point giving information about a player's night actions if they're about to die and have their alignment revealed anyway. I personally haven't visited anyone as they've been killed so can't confirm this, but I can believe it.
As for you pizzafeatures, the more I think about your situation, the more I don't like it. What happened to scum hunting? Or was it you that killed Andres, King of Gondor? Might need to rethink your strategy if it was...

I'm not sure it's a good idea giving it to Ishmael seeing as he sounds nearly dead...

Why? EF, I understand for his last post but Ishmael? He has or had the scan/visit ability, he didn't lie about Bsmith and has been voting him for a couple days already, he got attacked severely yesterday so why exactly do you think we should lynch him?
Btw Pizza why did you target Andres? What made you think he could be scum, let alone be a daedra??
Lets go back a bit, who were the people of whom you stole from? And what items did you steal from them?
In case I died prematurely, I had a thought that my steal action might allow you to know something about the people I've stolen from.
My guess is, if I stole from someone who had a very unusual item, something guilty-looking, my results would have been of help in deducing who was who.
All I've gotten so far are armor, weapons, and useless items. None of these strike me as particularly guilty things but it is by no means an investigation. I began with a full set of leather armor and therefore it's possible those people in question are holding other more sinister items. I can't say.
I wish I could report that I found something interesting, but this is all I got.
Andres, a torch? I can't picture in my mind neither a daedra nor a vampire in need of a torch...
Bsmith, a shield of steel
EF, a steel sword...
Autolycus, a helmet...

Framing me looks like the most likely thing. Unlike others though, I don’t suspect Ishmael as I do believe he is being honest here. I think this is a situation where we are both right.
Ishmael was unprepared for the dark figure approaching him. The red eyes signified what he knew all too well. Sword at the ready, he prepared for the fight. Okay, full disclosure:
I really only have one shot with the sword. If it is misused, it can't be charged up again by killing a daedra. Therefore it must connect on the first try.
I was going to hit someone last night but, as fate would have it, they contacted me and claimed something that was worth hesitating on.
With the mafia narrowing it down for me by murdering, and also, hopefully with me drawing their fire, and a lynch today also removing wrong options from me (or helping us regardless), I elected to bluff.
Last night I stayed awake for defensive reasons. I consumed the mushroom and am now invulnerable. It's only temporary, but this should help me strike true and still live to tell the tale.
I have no specific objection to any of the lynch candidates, and in the event of a tie, I'll break it whichever way I think is best, but I don't want to reveal who revealed to me last night or help the mafia narrow it down by voting for anyone.
I have no interest in the treasure but I'd bet you the mafia have some interest.

So are you saying that you stayed awake (and thus can't act tonight), ate the mushrooms (and thus can), or both?
EDIT: To clarify from your post earlier Riedquat, I don't have a special visiting ability; rather, I've just used the regular ability to visit a couple of times. BSmith, I'm considering moving my vote off you but am still mulling things over - bear with me :beam:.
Riedquat's point about a shield being stolen from BSmith has swayed me - judging by the damage dealt to me last night, the attack was almost certainly performed using a two-handed weapon. It doesn't rule out BSmith as scum, but it does largely invalidate my case against him.

SalmonSoil is the one that claimed to me last night and I avoided killing him.
Let's see if that was a good move.
EDIT: Well, good move on my part. Not such a great lynch.

If there are three mafiosi, then you will seem to have won the game.
I'm not risking my neck if town can't win anyway. Simply claim all three members and I'll sit tight.
If I get no answer, I'm attacking and that's a good 50/50 shot one of you dies. If you want to play that game, we can. And that's assuming I don't have a pretty good idea who you are anyway given others' efforts.
Edit- No, I've got a better idea.

Looking over the voting record, it's clear that I was voted the Legendary Sword by four of the remaining alive people other than myself.
The ones who did not vote the item to me were Jht who was a replacement, and Reidquat.
Reidquat came to me in private, I'd almost characterize him to be in a panic, after his initial counter of my claim fell flat. He claimed a female Nord, looking also for legendary items. Claimed he could repair things.
Well, I immediately responded that I thought he was full of it, and was likely mafia. And that his best bet would be to forget I ever existed. Strangely enough after that, I haven't been attacked, I'm still alive, and the mafia seem to be content picking off everyone else, even though it would seem I'm the most dangerous one left to go against them.
Now, my best guess is that the mafia were involved in voting me the sword. I mean, unless it was Reidquat and JHT who are mafia, and that was the most pathetic attempt to gain the sword I've ever seen, this is the case. The mafia voted me the sword.
But as I suspected, they made their own move for the sword while also voting it to me and trying to make sure it didn't end up in my hands. Ergo, Reidquat made the move, and his allies voted the other way.
Do I have this right?
It's also come to my attention, uh, town, that I can't kill a daedra by myself even with the sword. I'd need to have the entire town attacking with me, at this point.
And you're all so dreadfully indecisive.

I mean, if you had made any progress by now, I might be more inclined to help. But seeing as the mafia voted me the sword and you can't seem to hit them at all, it's really a naive thing for me to attempt to take them on single-handedly.
Thanks for the sword. Buh bye then.

The way I see it, you can't go wrong in lynching Pizza.
A. He's a fickle survivalist, and you at least drag him down with you as you lose.
B. He's tricksy scum, and you might just end up winning if you lynch him.

:smoking:
I'm just telling it like it is. Town can't even vote itself a treasure item that may make or break the game. Everyone has to vote it to themselves and it dies in committee with a 1 vote tie to four people.
The only people who have cared about the lynch tally all game have been scum. How many no-lynches happened due to ties? How does that help town?
If town had made an effort, anywhere, I'd be willing to risk my neck for them, out of the spirit of fun, not because it's in my win conditions. My win conditions are satisfied. I'm alive and I have the item I need.
For me to help town out makes me a target, and I'd do it anyway because it's fun and I like hunting scum.
But why should I do all of it? Why should I face a scum team by myself, and win the game for you?
Is that how you want to win?
Would you feel like you deserved it?
You know I've worked with town a bunch of times as SK or Neutral, and the thing that keeps me on town's side is the following: I see them trying. And I get something out of it.
Way back in a big big game with lots of townies and scumbags had a very limited neutral win condition involving commies. But because town kept protecting me, I kept helping them find scum. And that was even with a number of them suspecting me and trying to kill me.
In another game I was a neutral survivalist and turned serial killer if something happened to me. I gave them a heads up about that and told them to stay away. When I turned, I helped them slay the mafia anyway.
I've been the serial killer that wins when he kills two godfathers. I helped the town until they killed me.
I'm more than familiar with the risks and rewards involved. Most times, town's disunity and paranoia makes it not worth it. But the fun is still trying to work with town even when they're essentially a bunch of zealots regarding neutrals.
But the biggest danger to a neutral is defying the scum and not even have townies backing you up.
I don't have that here, town decided to go awol or clip coupons or something. You can't expect me to carry the load on my back and I definitely can't do it alone even if I wanted to. Everyone can vig, but nobody is. And I can't kill anyone even by myself because I'm not a vigilante, I'm just a stronger one of the crowd.
The way I see it, town is about to be outvoted anyway. You can threaten to lynch me tomorrow. Have fun with that. Certainly doesn't make your predicament any closer to being solved, I tell you that much.

At this point in the post, you should have offered to arrange a last-minute do-or-die vig squad. The scum would have known better than to attack a neutral at this point anyway.
Thanks for the sword. Buh bye then.
Sitting on the fence only to point and laugh as we're beset by rabid dogs - you can't complain if a flying stone knocks you over...
And once the game is over? Once "real life" takes over? What's to stop the scum from having their way with you?
Then they came for the townies, and I did not speak out--
Because I was not a townie.
Then they came for me--and there was no one left to speak for me.

In colonial Algeria, France maintained a contingent of native mounted auxiliaries: goumiers. These goumiers would serve as a screen for French bodies of infantry, and their flight from enemy mounted hordes - and they always retreated in the wake of a charge - was fully expected by the French High Command and utilized systemically as a warning signal for the main body. After a battle, they would be reused in the same role, and would flee before innumerable more charges. And they were not executed for their displays. They were not courtmartialed (and of course they weren't even formally part of the French military structure, to be given such treatment). They were put to use in the name of France Overseas - again and again.
You've been like a particularly gallant goumier for a long time, and rendered faithful service, Pizza - but an instance of treachery is still treachery. An instance of cowardice is still cowardice.
As they say in the Soviet Union, treachery is treachery, cowardice is treachery, and must be exculpated through the expenditure of blood in the name of the Motherland...
It's why we're so often at odds, Pizza: even when a Townie (as disillusioned as you are), you are a Neutral at heart; meanwhile, I, even when a scumbag, am a Townie at heart.

End of Night 7
--------------------------------------------
The time had come. None of the Expedition went to the campsite this night. They had their own ideas and actions to take. Tonight would decide the fate of the expedition once and for all.
Riedquat was on her knees once again, praying to Stendarr for guidance. Tonight was her night to strike, and Stendarr would guide her blows to smite the evil that plagued the expedition. Johnhughthom closed his eyes, and prepared for the transformation. Beastly howls and roars were heard throughout the night. Ishmael picked up his greatsword and prepared for his assault. Tonight would be his chance to strike back. Arjos was murmuring to himself, as small sparks of lighting flew through his hands. The power was his, he would destroy the puny mortals. BSmith readied his sword, he had a job to finish off tonight. Elite Ferret simply waited. His red eyes watched the darkness as he scanned for his target. Finally, Askthepizzaguy was simply sneaking around, his target no doubt would have some kind of treasure to steal.
"Stendarr guide me! Askthepizzaguy your reign of terror ends today!" Riedquat yelled as she charged at the figure of ATPG who was busy stealing nothing from Johnhughthom. He turned around to see the female Nord's shield connect with his shoulder. Gasping in pain he fell back onto the ground. He parried the first blow but the height and weapon advantage allowed Riedquat to get a strong slash across his torso. Before she could finish the job, Elite Ferret had grabbed her neck and threw her across the room, scattering treasure everywhere. "You're mine thief!" he yelled as he sliced Askthepizzaguy up. However, the thief was not without some tricks of his own. Askthepizzaguy grabbed his legendary sword and pointed it at the Daedra, as he dragged himself to his feet.
Meanwhile, Arjos had found Riedquat. She was groggily getting to her feet as Arjos approached her.
"You want this, don't you? The hate is swelling in you now. Take your Vigilant weapon. Use it. I am unarmed. Strike me down with it. Give in to your anger. With each passing moment you make yourself more my servant."
With a cry she rose to her feet and prepared to strike him, but it was a trap, as Arjos cast chain lightning on her. She writhed in agony as the lightning striked her body.
"You fool, now die! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! THE POWER IS MINE TO WIELD. UNLIMITED POWER AT LAST. DIE FOOLISH MORTAL!"
Ishmael however was not going to go down without a fight. With his greatsword he charged Arjos, dealing a great deal of damage to the spellcaster. "Vengeance at last!" he yelled as he prepared to finish off the evil Dunmer. But before he could do so, Bsmith rushed to the scene and blocked the blow. Ishmael looked up as BSmith then knocked the weapon out of his hand, and kicked him down. Ishmael was on his knees before the pair. Arjos cast Soul Trap on the blade, as BSmith raised it above his head.
"NO!" a beastly cry is heard.
BSmith brought the blade down, decapitated the old mercenary, his head rolling over to the unconscious Riedquat. Before BSmith could react, the werewolf had knocked him to the ground and was tearing strips off of him. Arjos managed to contain the werewolf with lightning before he could finish off his ally, and Bsmith crawled away, to rest. Elite Ferret approached the werewolf, and with one blow split the beast in half. Johnhughthom was slain.
As they stood around the dead bodies of Ishamel and johnhughthom, they congratulated each other on their victory. Askthepizzaguy was not done yet though. He threw the legendary sword at the feet of Elite Ferret, broken. "I am not a member of the Expedition. I am a member of the Thieves Guild who was sent to steal the treasure. I will serve."
"Excellent. Though I suspect we will have more use of you in the cities. Take my mark, and when it burns, you will be summoned to me, to perform my bidding. Go now, before I change my mind."
He nodded, and left quickly, but not before taking the treasure with him.
"But what of Riedquat, my liege?" Arjos asked.
"Someone has to live to tell the tale. Drop her at the entrance and open it up. They will send another expedition soon enough."
----
Riedquat awoke, unaware of how she got to the entrance of the cavern. She was weaponless and wounded and a long way from home. With a grunt, she got to her feet and walked out of the cavern. She had failed, they all had failed.

Mafia QT.
Role PMs, Victory levels and a few other things to come shortly.
Well done mafia. I must say, that's one of the more comprehensive losses I've ever been involved in as a townie.
Funny thing is that you almost had me. I did indeed plan on visiting edse that night you visited me… but not to watch what he was doing – I was going to be killing him. Fortunately for us Monty got there first and killed him so we didn’t do anything. Had you seen me kill him it would have been a very different game.
Luckily I was able to delay and bluff my way out of it, all the while not exactly lying either. :laugh4:
The last night was very interesting. JHT decided to go werewolf and attacks BSmith (almost killed him, only had 6 defence left), and Ishmael attacks Arjos doing a lot of damage. If Ishmael and JHT combined targets, the game would still be going. As it would be 2:2:1.

Well played mafia - that looks like a very healthy QT - I'll have to have a proper read of that sometime :)
Thanks very much Visor - a great theme well presented.
Thanks for hosting Visorslash!
I have one question: how in the hell did ATPG survive attacks from me and Riedquat? Did those mushrooms makes him invincuble as well as invisible? At least he is just my puppet now. :clown:

I knew you left it out originally on purpose!
Well thanks for not acting upon it, not that there was ever a point where my death looked possible.
Yaaaay for the Deadra! :beam:
Funny thing is that you almost had me. I did indeed plan on visiting edse that night you visited me… but not to watch what he was doing – I was going to be killing him. Fortunately for us Monty got there first and killed him so we didn’t do anything. Had you seen me kill him it would have been a very different game.
Luckily I was able to delay and bluff my way out of it, all the while not exactly lying either. :laugh4:
I was going to visit Andres that night but was killed before that. Not by monty though, he was already dead, guess it was riedquat. Edit: aha, it was Elite Ferret, thought so.
What happened when you visited someone? I never got to know that.
Defeated :shame:
Congratulations to the mafia and Master Pizza
That one post by Elite Ferret was so scummy... I'll never forgive myself for not pushing harder to get you lynched.
I was supsicious about BSmith as well, because of what Ishmael posted. Arjos had me fooled completely, I never suspected him.
This game was great fun, thanks for hosting Visorslash

There wasn't really anything you could have done. At that point there were only four townies left, so you'd have had to convice all of them to vote for me for it to work, and even then Arjos and BSmith would still have won fairly easily. Don't beat yourself up about it. :clown:

By reading his PM, he survives his first fatal attack...

He took half damage from swords and the like (not spells or arrows). Arjos/Edse would destroy him fast. As well as his one hit bulletproof. I felt it necessary considering he was a neutral, and the Org isn't a big fan of neutrals.

Visiting someone wasn't a detective scan. You would learn a small piece of information. For example, if you watched Riedquat you would see him pray then sleep. (Because that was almost all of his orders, was to pray and sleep). If you watched someone defending themselves, they would be awake/prepared for something. And so on.
Defeated :shame:

Skyrim is definitely a worthwhile investment. Get it for PC though.

Yeah, somehow I got mixed up and thought that both EF and I didn’t attack and that someone else did. For some reason I thought it was Monty. Guess it was EF all along!

I think that's what happened with Yoyoma, Monty got to him first so we just went for a stroll instead.
Maybe Ishmael meant that was the night he visited you rather than the night edse died? Or maybe I killed edse alone and your attack wasn't needed? A strange one...
If it was the former then we sure are lucky Ishmael didn't notice, or your alibi would have been proven totally false. :laugh4:

Oh... my... what a busy night... Congratulations mafia!
Thanks Visor for hosting!

Just like to thank everyone for signing up and making this a good game.
For those of you who are interested, here is a little analysis of the game.
Now, I first had the idea for a game based on Skyrim in the last quarter of last year. I wanted to host another game, and I wanted it to be something different. Skyrim was an obvious choice, one that a few of you would enjoy the theme of at least, and there was plenty of variety in regards to characters and settings. So whilst I decided on the base idea (mafia in Skyrim), I then moved onto a core theme, what would be the premise/setting of the game, why would they be doing this and so on. Whilst attempting to think of an idea, I actually came up with the idea for Yoyoma's character (the Draugr) first. I was browsing the wiki, and I did some reading on them, and I thought to myself, wouldn't that be a cool role to play, an undead skeleton guy, who isn't actually evil. And so thus Yoyoma's role was born, with a quick bit of backstory which led me to set the game in a cave/underground area where Draugrs are found in the game.
Then I branched out and started to create the other characters. I have always wanted to see a thief type role in action, so I put one of those in (as fortune would have it, silvertongue himself got the role), and decided to make it neutral, not a third party. I didn't want to make it too hard on the neutral, who have a hard enough time anyway at the Org. Next was the Daedra (of course they had to be in the game). And I decided to make him evil of course. I considered having the legendary sword change VC's of the character, but I scrapped that idea. After that I created the Stormcloak, who was designed to take a lot of punishment (and did), but have his own goal of killing a Thalmor agent who had killed his father. (It makes more sense if you know in game lore by the way). After I made those two characters (altmer/stormcloak), I realised I should make the opposite and I put in an Imperial role, who was less of a tank, but had investigatory powers (had to scan multiple times to get any kind of half decent inno/guilty scan) and was actually a brother to the Stormcloak (they chose opposite sides in the war, if the Imperial scanned the Stormcloak, he would realise they were brothers and his PG would change). I gave the Stormcloak Elfbane to help his quest (also help to kill Arjos). Arjos's role came from the altmer, always need a dark elf. I gave him magic powers as well as the regular sword/shield, as I wanted some variety. I then proceeded to need a leader and a second in command, which were Jarema and Riedquat respectively. Both were vigilants, however I wanted one a real vigilant, and the other just a soldier for hire kind of guy (Jarema's role). I enjoyed Riedquat's roleplay as the Vigilant and was hoping for him to be attacked when he chose to defend himself as he specified using everything to defend himself, including his pillow, which I would've included.
After those roles, I went to the other races, edse the breton, Chaotix the Khajiit, Autolycus the Argonian, BSmith the Redguard, LazyMcCrow as the Vampire and Classical/Johnhughthom as the Werewolf. The vampire and werewolf roles were designed to sound guilty when they were quite pro town. Lazy had a roleblock ability which would work on most roles (not on the daedra, ishmael, and a few others IIRC) as well as a feed which would do a slight amount of damage (but not kill) and give a temporary buff to his defence and the werewolf was a very powerful town role possible of a base 28 damage (Stronger then the daedra) twice in the game, and could oneshot every role in the game with the legendary sword. Lazy also made a town vampire hunter role PM which I was impressed with.
The last two roles were Ishmael the veteran merc who was fairly powerful with his greatsword and Andres (Aragorn) who was able to forage for food, etc and was the only archer in the game. Both fairly powerful roles in their own right. Ishamel couldn't be backstabbed, and Andres/Arjos/edse did reduced damage to him. What was interesting in the game, was that I had installed a mechanism towards people who had been caught attacking getting votes against them, which seemed to deter them from attacking each other, even though considering the night actions, no-one got caught, and it was fairly rare I think for a person to get caught. No-one would be implicated by a writeup saying they were mafia for being caught, they would just have the two votes against them. I also think the defending mechanic was pretty good. It saved Chaotix's life and was a good risk/reward option I feel. I would love to hear any opinions you guys have on this.
The balance of the game I feel was town sided, there was some powerful town roles, and the fact that scum attacks weren't one hit kills, and there were bulletproofs, and a roleblocker, etc, I feel the mafia played an extremely good game to come up with a perfect victory. I would've changed the balance in game if it was going too much in the town way.
A final note on the writeups, I know they weren't good, but I found it hard to write things that weren't really bland in this game. I enjoyed Autolysis man and the final writeup though. I also enjoyed putting little easter eggs in it, such as Andres being Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen, the actor of Aragorn in LOTR, Autolysis man, Arjos being The Emperor in the final writeup and so on.)
In regards to the choose your own adventure system, I blatantly stole that off of Chaotix and I consider that to be a great mechanic though I did it rather poorly. I was also rather lax with my hosting which I will apologise for, though most of you seemed to enjoy the game, which I take great pleasure in. I do enjoy hosting games, and as long as there is interest, I don't mind continuing to host them.
All in all I consider this game to have turned out quite well, and I am glad that you guys had fun.
If you manage to read this wall of text, thank you. Any opinions or thoughts or criticism on the game, my hosting or anything are appreciated.
In regards to this particular game, I may/may not host a sequel at some later stage, depends on interest and a manner of other things.
I plan on hosting a space based mini game and another small game (similar to my other small game AHOV) later this year, both vanilla, before I attempt another complicated game (this being my most complex by far.)

Managed to read your wall of text in about 2 minutes.
I had it in mind that I'd play this game as neutral as I could. I've gone really pro-town in most instances and it has tended to result in my being destroyed.
I figured the mafia would oppose me out of fear at some point, but given my own natural toughness and the mushroom, I figured I'd have a decent shot.
Fortunately for me, the bigger danger which was the town was rather divided and lacked strong leadership. I'm confident I wouldn't have survived a concerted effort to lynch me. And the mafia would have been only too happy to oblige.
I'm grateful the mafia won when they did. Obviously attacking them wouldn't have helped me in the slightest.
Playing the neutral role, you've got to at least pretend to be pro-town. They are bigger than the mafia and can usually kill you at will. The mafia can, but often have other more pressing targets. And sometimes they will remember that you're neutral, so you don't have to oppose them at all.
SOME of the mafia seem to have forgotten that, or were all too impressed by my threatening them. :tongue2: Come now, if I wasn't attacking anyone or voting for a lynch, that should tell you where my real priorities are: Hoping the game ends quickly and with me still alive in it.
You have to put on the pretense of hunting scum. Apparently I put on a decent performance to get both town and scum to believe I had any interest in hurting the mafia.

In my experience, anyone acting so shiftily convivial is not doing so out of an immanent disposition, if you know what I mean.
You were quite obviously something, and odds were that something was not a town role.
