The chemistry section of the afterlife is a strange world. Known as Chemeaven by its inhabitants, it is a place of constant experimentation and a strong thirst for knowledge. The Godly Society of Chemists (GSC) is comprised of the finest chemists to have ever lived and is led by the mysterious Professor Ferret. Recently a conference has been called at the Chambers of the GSC to discuss ways of overtaking the rival physicists in prestige. However there are a few unwelcome guests…

(Yeah I know this is a weird setting but I couldn’t think of any other justification for having scientists from different time periods, so deal with it. :clown:)

Rules:
Standard rules for voting apply. Votes must be bolded (vote:Elite Ferret) and you must unvote before changing it (unvote, vote:PrivateerKev). You may edit a post containing a vote but must not change the vote itself. In the event of a tie there will be no lynch.

Day and night phases will both be 24 hours long, although there may be slight deviations depending on when I have free time.

Private communication outside of the thread is NOT allowed. Certain roles will have access to a quicktopic, the link to which will be supplied to them by me.

Dead players may not reveal any information that is not visible in the game thread, or even hint at it. So no saying "I can't say why, but lynch Andres". No one would believe you anyway because Andres is just great but still, don't do it please.

Role/alignment will not be revealed upon death (sorry Jarema).

If you feel I have missed something out here then just assume standard mafia rules apply, or just PM me.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to warn you that this may well be the most unbalanced game in the history of the org. I will be surprised if the game goes past day 5 but it will be an action packed ride.

Day 1

On the first morning the conference hall was filled worried murmurings of the chemists, there had been rumours of physicists sneaking in! Professor Ferret approached the stage with a concerned look on his face.

“I am afraid the rumours are true. There are physicists among us.” He spat out the words as though they were poison on his tongue. “I can think of no fairer way to flush them out than to hold a vote. Whoever accrues the most votes by the end of the day shall be expelled from the conference in the most violent way possible. I trust once this disturbance has been dealt with we can get on with the more pressing matters that we all came here for.”

Night 1 Begins

Professor Ferret looked pleased as the voting period drew to a close. "Excellent, this man is surely a physicist. I mean just look at him. To the giant vat of hydrofluoric acid he goes!" Jarema was sweating heavily as he was pushed by the crowd of scientists downstairs to a balcony above a huge vat of acid in the basement.

"Any last words?" The Professor didn't even give him a chance to reply before he was kicked off the edge and fell head first, screaming, into the acid. There were bubbles aplenty and a thick waft of smoke rose up to the ventilation system.

"It is done! Now go to your rooms so that we may start discussing proper work tommorow. Good night." With that the Professor strode off, leaving the scientists to make their own way back to their respective bedrooms.

Jarema was lynched.

Askthepizzaguy had a feeling something would happen tonight, it was just typical of his luck. Sure enough there was a knock on his door late in the night. As he crept towards the door, terrified, loud thuds started to sound outside as if objects were hitting the walls in the hallway. Following a brief scuffle he heard footsteps running off down both ends of the hallway, there must have been two people outside. When he finally worked up the courage to open his door the only evidence of his visitors were smushed apples scattered across the hallway. After making sure that no one was still around he went back to bed.

The following morning the chemists made their way to the conference hall to find Professor Ferret sat brooding in his chair.

"It appears there was a disturbance last night after all, the cleaners are not impressed by the mess that was made. There must still be physicists among us, so another vote it is. Make sure you get rid of them this time."

No one was killed.

Yet I’m pretty sure ATPG would be aware of the rules regarding no-reveal. He is not the type of player to wing things. Everything is done for a reason, especially if it looks like it isn’t. So that little bit about the Jarema reveal and if he is wrong he would be lynched today is rubbing me the wrong way.

Night 2 Begins

Professor Ferret looked concerned at the emptiness of the ballot box. "Hmph, I guess most of you aren't bothered about the mess then. Mind you, neither am I, so long as no one was hurt. Anyway White_eyes:D will die and thank god for that! Him not having any pupils was really creeping me out. To the acidic vat of doom!"

The smell hit them as soon as they reached the top of the stairs. Professor Ferret held his nose and peered over the balcony into the vat. A few pieces of Jarema's clothing and even some of his flesh floated on the surface.

"Hmmm, perhaps we best leave him there until tomorrow, I don't think Jarema is quite done. What else have we got around here? Oh let's just stick in him in one of the giant ovens, maybe he'll even taste nice?"

Most of the chemists were repulsed by this suggestion.

"Relax, I was only joking. Probably. Anyway let's get this over with."

White_eyes:D was shoved to the room with the ovens and unceremoniously dumped inside one. It was locked and set to 1000 °C. That would be the last anyone would hear of him.

Day 3 Begins

Arjos sat down with a mug of hot chocolate before he went to bed. Something tasted a little off about it but he assumed it was the milk and that the small lumps were just clumps of coca powder and finished it anyway. It was only as he sipped the last drops that he noticed the lumps were actually metallic. He knew that shade of grey anywhere, it was Americium! He had consumed a huge amount and fainted before he could decide what to do.

In the morning his room was quarantined and his radioactive corpse disposed of. Professor Ferret didn't know what to say to the gathered scientists.

"We must hold another vote. There must be physicists still left. Please, catch them before this happens again."


Arjos was killed.

Professor Ferret was enjoying the chance for creativity he was getting from the lynch votes. He decided to make use of the huge bomb calorimeter in one of the labs, and issakhaan would be the test subject. His charred remians were disposed of in the solid waste bin.

Given inactivity, it's not a slam-dunk. It's better than a shot in the dark, as we all know, but it's possible inactivity has shafted us three different ways. Outed roleblocker, lynched innocent, and perfect cover for the scums.

I am not getting my hopes up, but regardless of how Ironside reacts, he should probably still be lynched. His best move now is a big claim with all kinds of drama. If he's mafia we're not going to get him later, we'll be dead by then. We gotta get him now.

I can "measure the enthalpy of combustion" of one of my fellow conference goers every second night (N2, N4 etc). I choosed not to on N2 since I didn't have any good ideas on who to vig. Couldn't do anything last night, so the claimed roleblock did nothing (not that I doubt ATPG, but I haven't gotten any pm about me being roleblocked).

That's it, I'm innocent since none has died by fire on any night. :bow:

I'd offer to keep roleblocking you but I doubt it would do much good. A mafia team has plenty of folks to do a kill. You being unable to kill anyone but me wouldn't make any difference, they could do it.

Pretty much the only alternative to your lynch is to have you prove yourself with a murder. Then we can establish you're not the mafia killer who has been killing.

The crowd of scientists were almost unanimous in their choice of who to lynch. Ironside was pushed by the crowd towards the hydrofluoric acid vat, which still contained Jarema's remains, and dumped in. His pleas of his devotion to fire and using physicists as the fuel fell on deaf ears and were quickly drowned out by the bubbling of the acid.

A powerful smell was coming from edse's room in the morning. When Professor Ferret went in he found the place coated in vomit, with edse lying on his bathroom floor, motionless. He was the second victim of radiation poisioning. The Professor made his way back to the conference hall to address the chemists.

"It appears that this isn't over yet. Six scientists are dead, if you don't catch the physicists soon then there won't be a Society of Chemists left to fight for. Get to it."

The scientists were starting to grow more concerned and a few were pressed into going into details of their behaviour since arriving at the conference. It remains to be seen whether they will regret this in the long run. For the time being the scientists could not come to an agreement on the vote. There would be no lynch this day.

BSmith went to bed early that night, he was growing ever more worried about the threat of the physicists and was convinced that they would be coming for him soon. He was just finishing off a chapter of 'Organic Chemistry' by Jonathan Clayden when a strange object rolled under his door and settled on the floor by his bed. The object released a gas that was both colourless and odourless, BSmith didn't know what it was, but he knew it couldn't be good. He tried to get up and leave the room but he suddenly felt light headed and collapsed onto his bed.

He was found dead in the morning, a victim of radiation posioning from the Radon gas that was released.

Makrell was not going to let the chemists go down without a fight, he decided to take matters into his own hands. He tackled TheFlax and forced him into one of the rooms adjoining the conference hall. It was here that Makrell had laid his trap and once he flipped a switch mustard gas filled the room. He held TheFlax's head by the source and it was not long before the scientist stopped struggling. Makrell darted back out of the room but at this point he had already breathed in a lethal dose of the gas himself. He would likely not last until the night.

TheFlax was killed.

Makrell will die at the end of the phase.

Day 8 Ends

Makrell had put on quite the performance that day. Having sacrificed his own health to eliminate TheFlax he rounded on the man he suspected to have been working with him. With Visorslash keen to join in Riedquat was backed into a corner of the hall.

"Excellent work guys, we got him! TheFlax was obviously the killer, it's over. Please, let's just get to back to the conference and forget all this ever happened."

The two chemists were not so easily convinced and as Riedquat continued to retreat he tripped and his sleeve was pulled up. Tattooed on his arm was the equation 'E=mc^2'. Visorslash's expression hardened as he realised that the man before him was his lifelong rival.

"Einstein... You are right, it is over."

Riedquat tried one last defence by flinging belly button fluff and molasses from his pockets at his agressors, but it barely even slowed them. He was dragged to the nearest lab where the two chemists explored the effects of a variety of chemicals on the human body. There was little left of Riedquat but ash by the time they were done. Makrell was struggling by that point, the effects of the mustard gas were taking their toll. He collapsed to the floor and breathed his final, drawn out, breath. Visorslash left the corpses and returned to the conference hall, where Professor Ferret was waiting.

“Right then, let’s get on with this conference shall we?”



Riedquat was killed, Makrell died.

Lots of power roles, lack of pming and reveals definitely kept the mafia in it, I understand now why you did it. I have a theory on power roles, that more roles doesn't necessarily make the game more town sided. Power roles can backfire, and they did. Still, mafia did really well.

I'd also like to point out my epic failure with powers. Was roleblocked the first few nights (but never used my power), recruited to mason/neighbour group, they died, I recruited ATpg and used my power on him but be died that night. I then used it to make the flax vote for himself, but I was blocked. Then he was killed so even more redundant.

Being lynched day one... I do not have a lot to say about this game (I did not have time to read it after my death)

Well then, I think the most significant events in the game happened at the very start and the very end. Jarema was the only player initially able to kill every night (TheFlax became able to do this after White_eyes:D died), so his death slowed down the game a lot, to the town's benefit. The popularity of ATPG on night one added to this, four players used their ability on him: the doctor, the mafia killer, the detective and the psychiatrist. Most of the game was the mafia whittling down town numbers until it looked certain that they would win. On the final night Visorslash used his ability to force TheFlax to vote for himself the following day, which would certainly have swung things back in the town's favour, but unfortunately for him Riedquat roleblocked him. This left the town's fate in the hands of Makrell, who handled it perfectly. His power allowed him to kill a player in the day phase and remove that player's vote from the tally without losing his own. When I put the role in I thought it would just be a nice surprise if Makrell was about to be lynched, rather than as useful a power as say the doctor or detective. However he managed to take out both mafia players in one day phase and win the game for the one surviving townie. It was certainly close.

One major regret I do have is not revealing alignment on death. I was hoping that the masons and their recruiting would allow the town to get some organisation together but they had no way of truly being able to tell whether those they recruited were innocent, and in any case they were killed as fast as they joined. Without the alignment reveals I felt it was too much down to luck, with the town just having to use their powers and votes for whatever slight reasons they had, whilst the mafia slowly killed them off. In future I will do alignment reveals, hopefully allowing the townies to carry out more in depth reasoning.

I think most of the roles worked quite well, though I felt really bad about issaikhaan's power becoming useless before he even had the chance to use it, with the day one death of the serial killer. I think the redirector might need some tweaking as well.

You are the Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev, creator of the periodic table of elements.

Abilities:
You are a master of observation, both of chemicals and of people. You will be keeping a close eye on everyone at the conference.

Once per night you may watch a target and will find out who he visits in the night, but not what he does. PM me the target each night.

You are the Dutch chemist Johannes van der Waals, known for your work on the weak interactions between molecules.

Abilities:
You are a kind and understanding man, often able to solve the problems of others. You may visit a fellow conference goer each night to see if you can help them.

PM me your target each night. If you talk to the serial killer they will be converted into a normal townie and won’t kill again. Your talks will have no effect on anyone else.

Kurt Alder

You are the German chemist Kurt Alder, one of the creators of the incredibly useful Diels-Alder cycloaddition reaction, along with your tutor Otto Diels (Arjos – it appears you two are inseparable :clown:).

Abilities:
You are a member of the research team at the University of Kiel and therefore have access to the team’s private chambers at the institute (http://www.quicktopic.com/49/H/PF7eBG5NtEcrN). At the moment only yourself and Professor Diels have access to these halls but Diels may decide to increase the size of the team at a later date. It is up to you whether you go by your real name or any alternative identity whilst inside the chambers (ie feel free to post with your .org username or as Kurt Alder).

Luis Miramontes

You are the Mexican chemist Luis Miramontes, known for your work in creating oral contraceptives.

Abilities:
You are an expert at creating pills that stop things from happening. Once per night you may slip a pill into a fellow conference goer’s drink and they will be unable to carry out any activity until the morning.

You may roleblock one person each night by PMing me your target.

You are the English physicist Isaac Newton, considered to be one of the greatest scientists who ever lived.

Abilities:
You are working with two other physicists: Niels Bohr (TheFlax) and Albert Einstein (Riedquat). The group has managed to acquire a private chamber at the conference (http://www.quicktopic.com/49/H/h2WQkLMhCJY). Personally you are fed up of the chemists teasing you about apples and have decided to get revenge. To avoid your chances of being caught, yourself and Niels have decided to kill on alternate nights.

PM me a target each odd numbered night (N1, N3 etc...) and they will be killed with apples.

All chemists are killed.

Ironside
Robert Bunsen

You are the German chemist Robert Bunsen, most famous for creating the Bunsen burner.

Abilities:
You are proud of your fiery invention and are certainly not afraid to put it in action, particularly if you can get some physicists involved. Once every other night, starting on night 2, you may measure the enthalpy of combustion of one of your fellow conference goers.

PM me your target on even nights (N2, N4 etc...) and they will burn.

You are the English chemist Robert Boyle, regarded as one of the founders of modern chemistry.

Abilities:
You are greatly respected by the others at the conference. Once per night you may visit someone at the conference and the following day they will be more inclined to your way of thinking.

PM your target and who you want them to vote for the following day. They can try and back it up with reasoning or even vote for someone else, but when I draw up the final tally their vote will be for whomever you chose the previous night.

Antoine Lavoisier

You are the French chemist Antoine Lavoisier, who named the elements oxygen and hydrogen.

Abilities:
You are a proficient biologist as well as a chemist and knowledgeable about how chemicals can affect the human body.

Once per night you may protect a target from attack. You may not protect yourself.

Victory Conditions:
All threats to the chemists are eliminated.

Makrell
Fritz Haber

You are the German chemist Fritz Haber, known for creating the Born-Haber cycle and considered to be the father of chemical warfare.

Abilities:
You are adept in the art of using gases as weapons, but not so comfortable containing them. If you are sure someone is a physicist you may gas them, but this may also have implications for your own health.

You may kill one person during any day phase but you will also die at the end of that phase. Your vote on that day will be counted, there’s won’t be. In order to do this simply PM me your target.
