That I find myself listening to music I hate, then listening to music I enjoy?
This has been occurring for some time now. I've downloaded various music videos to my iPod that I am too embarrassed to keep with my music. Artists such as Beyonce and Ke$ha. I listen to the song for about 30 seconds until I can't take it any more, then I promptly switch to something like this.

Is it weird that I have to torture myself to enjoy my music more than I normally would? What I'm concerned about is actually liking Beyonce and Ke$ha if I listen to it too much.
Who cares if you end up liking Beyonce and Ke$sha, if you enjoy it then you enjoy it, that's all that really matters.
Maybe you just need to find something new to listen to. Sometimes I get bored of a particular band or genre, and I enjoy it more after I've taken a break from it.
I can give you some recommendations if you want, I don't really like metal but I listen to a lot of punk.

It's probably going to be an acquired taste. Right now, I doubt I'll start liking it. After 23 years of listening to metal, grindcore and punk, I doubt I'll like pop music. I do like old school rap and hip hop, though.
I sure could use a few punk recommendations. I've fallen out of the scene for a while.

i meant it in a bad way :P
but hipster is a difficult word, a real hipster will always deny being a hipster. people who want to be a hipster think its a good thing be called hipster but if they call themself hipster they are by definition no real hipster but an impipster. it is like the new dandy but without the emo part because being emo is not cool and hipsters are always cool (or so they think XD)

Do you like Phil Collins?
I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece. It's an epic meditation on intangibility. At the same time, it deepens and enriches the meaning of the preceding three albums.
Listen to the brilliant ensemble playing of Banks, Collins and Rutherford. You can practically hear every nuance of every instrument. In terms of lyrical craftsmanship, the sheer songwriting, this album hits a new peak of professionalism. Take the lyrics to Land of Confusion. In this song, Phil Collins addresses the problems of abusive political authority. In Too Deep is the most moving pop song of the 1980s, about monogamy and commitment. The song is extremely uplifting. Their lyrics are as positive and affirmative as anything I've heard in rock.
Phil Collins' solo career seems to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying, in a narrower way. Especially songs like In the Air Tonight and Against All Odds. But I also think Phil Collins works best within the confines of the group, than as a solo artist, and I stress the word artist. This is Sussudio, a great, great song, a personal favorite.

Of course I was obliged to post this (http://www.cracked.com/blog/six-degrees-of-su-su-sudio-using-pandora-as-musical-gaydar/)as soon as I read your post.
I second musical eclecticism: in the same day I easily go from listening to Suidakra, to Dr. Dre, to Tchaikovsky and to whatever house music is on a radio station here where I live...
Listen to what you enjoy, nothing else matters regarding music...
The fact that you have masochistic tendencies, is something you'll have to explore and comprehend on your own XD

For the record, I changed my member title because I re-read a certain book a couple of days ago, not because of you hipsters.
The Patty Winters Show this morning was about a new sport called midget tossing.
I've found that the larger the social stigma against a type of music is, the more interesting it becomes. Some of the people I used to know could be described as anti-Christian, anti-American and anti-rap music.
So that kinda encouraged me to go and listen to the Staple Singers, Bob Dylan, and Tupac. The artists I listen to are quite different, but on number 1 it's still mostly The Band. Apart from that, I listen to Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Tupac, Masta Ace, Cole Porter, Huun Huur Tu, Anouar Brahem, Bobby Charles, Dr. John, Katzenjammer, Jerry Reed, The Cat Empire, Beausoleil, Steve Riley, Dave Brubeck, etc.
I think that someone that really loves music is able to find beauty in very different kinds of music.
I sure could use a few punk recommendations. I've fallen out of the scene for a while.
