I don't think it's reached similar proportions yet (the "T..." thread was resolved pretty quickly), but nevertheless the development is worrying. I think I've expressed my opinion often enough, but to restate it yet again: this is a peaceful forum. Or at least it's supposed to be. And I beg of the patrons to respect that.

Well T_D, you've been around long enough to know that the Dojo has it's share of ups and downs.

The pre-release period, (and even more especially the release period), is going to be a difficult time for those of us who are used to having things a certain way around here. The .org staff is very dedicated and well prepared however + things aren't going to slip to any serious degree; I can promise you that.

-Just think of it as a cycle is all. In real-life winter is always harder than summer, but we learn to live with it, (some people even look forward to it) + we shouldn't get overly stressed by the seasons of change here at the Dojo either.

Well I am thnk that the off topic board has turned into a place that is getting out of control with some of the topics and language being used is not suitable for kids. I know that most of us here are adults but seeing some of the posts I doubt that but there are also kids or teenagers visiting here. If this stuff had been posted at Lanzas forum I would of deleted it straight away as would of the other mods.

Unless there has been a big-time shift in .org philosophy that I dont know about, the thinking is this: "STW is has been given a teen+ rating by the ESRB, and as a result the tolerance level of the moderators is geared towards patrons of teen+ audience."

I don't like some of the stuff that is being posted lately either + if people want to set bad examples and post unsavory content then they will probably get attention, but they certainly won't get much respect.

On the other hand: if veteran posters (such as yourself) can encuorage new patrons to act more responsibly, (with out alienating them); I am sure it will go a long way towards showing everyone what a special place the org can be when it's firing on a cylinders.

I can see what you guys are worried about also, and trouble makers, finger pointers, and right/wrongers will probably always be a part of online discussion. But even though this is maybe the 6th or so message board I've been a regular member on during my online time, it's by far the most mature, the most adult, with the most mutual respect and self-control. Most of the other boards I've posted on have been flat out clique wars, no hiding it. Newcomers were usually attacked by both sides of a clique argument until they showed their leanings towards one side or the other, and the fight resumed. Flame wars were rampant. I haven't seen this on the Sword Dojo, and that's why I enjoy being here so much.

There will always be people who come in, vapidly spew for 10 posts or so, and disappear. It looks like the Sword Dojo has withstood these types in the past and will also in the future. I think if it looks like someone is being quarrelsome *only* for the sake of grabbing attention, we should try to let it slide and not throw gas on the fire. Flaming is like hysteria, both are very highly contagious.

I'm just glad that there aren't well defined cliques on the Dojo like in other message boards. If this were any other forum, I could see there being a "no guns" clique, a "historical" clique, a "pro-mod" clique, a "horses only" clique, etc. etc. Sillier things have been the causes of incessant flame wars on other message boards I've seen.

K the language that I was talking about was not swearing but racist which I dont want to put up with here. I sent an email but it the contact at the bottom of the page. I know the rating just doesnt mean that it should be used. If this continues I will probably just leave. No one probably cares though.

The mods and patrons alike obviously take that particular subject very seriously + anyone who keeps up with any such nonsense after a fair initial warning is going to get tossed out of the dojo on their ear!

D_P I missed this racist language, but i've been away for a few days. Suffice to say if that appears in GD it will be removed out of hand. THe staff do care, and the opinions of those of you who've been about along time do count. THings might get a bit bumpy for a little what with the xpack and all, but really that just mean we need as many friendly old hands as possible.

To use a hideous corny cliche this place is what you guys make it. to an extent gentle pressures from you without getting into flaming are more effective at teaching people our standards than any number of mods jumping up and down. We can enforce rules, when we have to, but we cannot enforce ethos. THat is upto you guys. If someone says something you're unhappy with then explain politely and nicely why http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif. Don't get into flame wars the place gets untidy enough with closed threads as it is

All forums have times of unrest. A forum community is just like a community in real life. As time goes by, things can change, people can leave, new people can come, or any of a variety of things that can change the demographics of the group. I find that eventually in the end, things sort themselves out.

I would say that even though the game has a "teen" rating, that doesn't mean it's not going to be available to a younger group of people. In the United States, it's classified as 13+, but I'm sure that many internet savvy 11 and 12 year olds can get their hands on the game and will seek out sites for it. Besides, much rude language can be offensive to everyone and is not needed to the extreme that some take it. I fully understand that so called "bad" language can make a certain point all the clearer, I just think that too much can only be bad for a nice group of people like those that frequent .org. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif
