View Full Version : Renaissance of the Throne Room

Guys, the throne room has been a bit slow as of late. I attribute this to the loss of a great number of our regular players. _Tristan_, Thanatos Eclipse and SilverShield are away. Ignoramus pops in once in a blue moon. phonicsmonkey and Zim went on to have real lives (traitors!). Mithridate is now away and super busy with other hotseats on the TWC. Then there were the two cheaters who got booted.

We still have other active players, and the heavengames collaboration will see at least one good game start (when I get the time to resume organizing it). But in the mean time, what kind of game do you want to play? We need something new, and we need to advertise it around the .org as well.

I have had a crusades allowed game smoldering in my mind for a while now. The idea would be that every player must play a catholic faction, so as to level the playing field on it. This would actually create pressure to not anger the pope, and might lead to situations where the pope is actually able to call a halt to wars due to players not wanting to be kicked out of the church, and thereby crusaded against.

So I would be into playing that. I also would still love to play the viking game we were getting started up a awhile back.

I'm up for hotseat with you guys, still excited to see how you all play compared to us. Just wondering, is there any good mods you know of for the Dark Ages/Pre-vanilla Era that are popular for hotseats, kinda like the Last Kingdom? I just happen to find the earlier medieval period more interesting.

Nightbringer that Crusades game sounds wonderful. We need at least 4 players though. I'd be up for it as any Catholic faction. If Lead Battles I'd definitely go for Poland for example.
Kilij Æ Varyl to my knowledge TLK is the best one we have. Though you can check out twcenter for other such mods. I'm personally waiting for Dominion of the Sword to come out, though I'm not sure if they will have an Early period.

Dominion of the Sword is officially DEAD. They had big problems with CA as they were trying to copyright some of the tools they used to create the mod. http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?356096-DotS-Progress-Report&p=12764937&viewfull=1#post12764937 Pick up the story from there. I was hoping to see this come out even though I thought the PSFs were too many and the movement points too high on any screen shots they showed.

I really don't understand why they thought they had any rights at all. Sega is a cold-hearted corporation and the rights that they control through the EULA are too easy for them to control and fight for. The average person has no rights and owns NOTHING but the right to view any software or DVD/blu-ray he buys.

@Kiliij AE Varyl- we tried one hotseat with Last Kingdom at twcenter and it died an unpleasent death. Autoresolve was the problem. All senior players and we all thought something was wrong.

Hi guys, what are your thoughts on Role-Play games? I know they've been popular on here in the past.

I'd like to set one up in the Roman time-frame (to whet the appetite for the upcoming new title) but as an underplayed yet exciting nation in Carthage. They are set up pretty well with their democracy and similar (yet so very different) set up to the Romans.

Thoughts/ interest?

So I know I'm a ghost of a ghost around here, but I'd definitely be up for an RPG.

To break this heavy atmosphere, I'd like you to think to the next HS I'll launch based on De Bello Mundi: a MTWII based on Roman era.
I'm a betatester, and the developers say this might be last beta before the release! Something you want me to investigate for a RPG hotseat?
Oh, and yes... Im back proper now :2thumbsup:

Excellent, nice to see some interest in this. What would you think is the best way to go about drumming up some more players?

I would be up for an RPG myself, although I warn you they can be very work intensive to run.

Yeah, but if it's half decent then the positives should outweigh the negatives :) How many people do we need to get going? One in progress will be more attractive to others, but what's the minimum to start do you reckon? You've seen many more of these than I have.

If im allowed to jump in: No less than 4, i recommend 6 with a max to 8 and would never join a 10+

Throne room hotseats are slow, kills a lot of the fun when theres too many players making it crawl.
Depends a little on the mod too ofc, big mod and you should restrict the map as not to use all of it.

For a KotR/LotR style game I'd say you need at least 8 or 10 to start and you'd want another 10 or 15 joining further down the line. I'm not convinced the Throne Room is capable of attracting those kinds of numbers these days.
Another issue is finding someone willing to devote the time needed to make the game work and keep it moving and interesting, á la TinCow and econ21. I suppose their duties could be spread out but judging by the speed of the hotseats at the moment keeping the game stimulating could be a challenge.

Having said that I would certainly be willing to try, providing the rules and setup are solid.

I'm absolutely up for a TATW 3.2 RPG, but I can't run it. The days when I spent every night and all the weekends with my PC are long gone. With gym in 3 out of 4 nights, and travelling on Friday night and being away until Monday I can't say I'm the right guy to run one. My GF lives in another city, so at 6 PM on Fridays I fire up my Clio and dash over to her. Then on Mondays I wake up at 5 AM to get to Sofia on time for work... :laugh4:

I would definitely be up for a TATW RPG, but also would not be able to run it due to time constraints.

What does TATW stand for?

Third Age Total War. It is a Lord Of the Rings themed mod.
