I was going to switch the Aedui bodyguard to something else, but it looks like they share the same spot in the edu as Arverni. If I change Aedui bodyguards will it also change Arverni? I have no problems switching Casse and Lusotonnan bodyguards, but those have individual spots. What do I do?

I'm not sure, but probably will work,

I don't think it will edit the starting FM bodyguards (I'm not sure, but I think those are preordered), but probably the following ones will be Solduros (or whatever unit you like)

Yes, starting FM bodyguards are determined by the map file, not the unit files.

There is one potential problem, though. The battlefield engine is restricted to one unit per model per faction; i.e. you cannot bring two different units with the same model to the battlefield, or else it will crash. In this case, you will encounter the problem when you bring an army containing this unit and a unit of Solduros. (This doesn't happen when your opponent brings Solduros: the limit is one unit per model per faction.)

There is a workaround: if one (not both) of the units has the mercenary attribute, the crash won't occur. However, since Solduros share their model with Arjos, Rycalawre and Kuarothoroi, I guess the team already used this trick.

Can the Aedui recruit any of these? If not, you could try adding the mercenary attribute to the general's unit and see if that works.

you sure?
recently I've modded a little EB (for my mod) and, among the changes, I added a couple of mercenary general units and they work fine

maybe the battle engine treat the general_unit in a similar way to the mercenary_unit tag?

My R:TW modding skills are very rusty, but I am sure there was an issue with units in the same faction sharing a model. It only occurs during battles, though, so maybe that's why you've never noticed it?

It could be that general_unit works similar to mercenary_unit, but it would be strange that nobody has noticed it before.

No, I fought a fair amount of battles with those new units (as I'm beta-testing the mod) so I can say that's not a definite issue. Maybe it's an irregular problem that pop-up from time to time.

I'll go look on the EDU and search for similare cases

EDIT: Blame Vlad-Tudor if I'm here quarrelling :2thumbsup:

Apparently, some units, like Ambakaro Epones and Lusotannan Bodyguards or the Epilketoi Hoplitai and the Greek General (Infantry) Bodyguards share the same model.
So, I think we can safely assume the general_unit tag works like the mercenary_unit
