View Full Version : Steam Summer Sales

It has begun (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=It%20has%20begun).

Or as I like to think of this time of year, 'Tis the season when Steam tempts Lemur into spending way too much money on games he does not need.

"What's that? A Klingon-themed platformer with transsexual squids? And it's only $2? How can I not buy it?"

The Steam Store is experiencing some heavy load right now. Please try again later.

Yeah, it is on...

Yep. Good. Keep me the hell away from these sales. I'm amazed by how quickly rational thought leaves my brain, and I start gibbering about how I can't afford NOT to buy it at that price!

Anyone played "Don't Starve"? That appeals to me most out of what I currently see on sale.

Also, if I see Prison Architect go on sale I may have to buy that....

Vote for Dishonored for the next sale. I need to pick that up and $10 is an appealing price.

Dont starve is a fantastic little game thats worth its full price. On sale it is more than worth it and you would be a fiend not to purchase it.

It seems like they don't want me to buy stuff; I always get this message:

There seems to have been an error initializing or updating your transaction. Please wait a minute and try again or contact support for assistance.

Contacting support turns out to be a very frustrating experience, with the pages loading sloooooo...w.

Meh. For the first time, I'm an unsatisfied Steam customer.

It's because the sheer volume of Steam users have gone rabid and are purchasing everything.

By the way, System Shock 2 for $5. I've heard it's great, I'mma get it.

Also I highly recommend Dragon Age: Origins, which is on flash sale for the next 3 hours.

It's the new Steam trading card thing.

Basically, you can either sell them, or if you collect an entire set it will turn into a "badge" for your profile. Like an achievement, sorta.

I only buy games under 5 bucks. I've made too many bad decisions with $10 and up games. Battlefield will likely be an exception. Maybe Rome II total war, but I've largely abandoned that franchise because the last 3 games were mod restrictive

Something of a GTA clone, with more indepth melee combat, you don't get a gun until about 6 hours in. I didn't get around to completing it, but I did really enjoy what I played. Wasn't for off finishing it, it did get rather repetitive though.

Certainly worth £5, or whatever that is in dollars.

100% worth it. Hands-down one of the best games I've played recently. Better combat system than any dedicated fighter I've played recently. Excellent driving system, the cars are a treat to drive. The motorbikes aren't temperamental and take plenty to knock you off. At 75% off it really is a steal. BUY IT. Best bargain I've seen so far.

Tomb Raider Collection (9 Games!) is on sale for $18.

That seems like an incredible deal to me. The new Tomb Raider without the collection is $12.

EDIT: Also, I've got an extra Football Manager card (from the Steam Summer Getaway set) if anyone wants to trade for it.

I got this impression because Valve sent out a press release in 2012 (http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2012/08/09/steam-software/1) where they said so.

What websites, I might ask? And since you are from the Middle East, and having spent my fair share of time in the Middle East, are you sure that the stores you visited werent just wrapping a CD case in the God of War cover and calling it God of War to sucker you into a purchase? I mean, I found a "PC version" of Halo 3 in the Muslim quarter market in Jerusalem.

I know a guy from iran, most of the folks there play PC games, cause they don't sell PS3/Xboxs, and i doubt they can hack this onto the PC, alot of the iranian stores also mislabel the covers so you might have a totally different game in your disk.

My recommendation is try and go to Chahbahar, they have a freezone there with shops that sell these, but i don't know how feasible that is for you, since its quite a distance from Tehran. The other best bet is Dubai which is like a 3 hour flight, and its sold in every pop and mom store but not the bigger chains like Virgin or whatever, avoid those.

Nah. Not that interested in such aged series with mediocre-to-failure titles here and there. I'd rather use my money up on the useless DLCs of the latest one.

I am not sure what the rave about Prison Architect is. It looks interesting and it is by the team who did Darwinia and Uplink, two games I loved when I was younger, but it is completely outpriced itself. The full game without discount should be £7, on par with Reus or Faster than Light opposed to £14 'on sale'.

It's a much more colorful and eye friendly version of Dwarf Fortress with a separate theme. There's a considerable appeal there but I still agree that it's much too expensive for a game that isn't finished yet.

but then again I did pay full price for Crusader Kings II!

Well, CK2 is a different kettle of fish. It isn't a low budget indy game, such as this. I understand why there might be some appeal to the game, I don't see why it isn't priced similar to Reus for example, it is that sort of quality (Well, should be, when completed).

I loved Prison Architect (and paid full price for it), as long as you think of it as a sandbox after you get everything set up and running. Paying in on the ground floor with a constantly-expanding Alpha and a great Dev team that guarantees me the full copy on release is something that I am willing to do.

Did you impulse buy the tablet or is the budget software at fault?I guess you could call it a psuedo-impulse buy. I was planning on buying it since I first heard of it in May, but I hadn't properly budgeted for it this month.

The "right" thing to do would have been to postpone buying it, but the tablet hasn't been reliably in stock at any of my Walmarts, so I thought I better strike while I could. I ended up scraping my discretionary budget funds of extra cash to pay for it- which is well and fine, but it didn't leave me with a lot of money for things like... Steam sales.

Don't Starve was no problem. Prison Architect leaves me pretty much tapped out for the month. Pity.

Oh and also picked up Papers, Please for 3 bucks, had to check it out, not much to it, but it was still work seeing what it was about. Waiting for Stanley Parable to get to 2 or 3 bucks and I'll run through that one too. These "message" games are something I want to check out, but since they aren't really games in my opinion I don't feel like I should pay anywhere near full price, which makes for a nice indie dev team / steam sale meeting of the minds with my price point. hahah, win/win
