Rome II's regions and their present-day equivalents! Help!

Hi guys,

I hope I'm posting in the right place.

I'm very exited for the release of Rome II in a couple of weeks and decided to brush up a bit on the history of the era.

What I'm looking for essentially is a comparison between the regions and factions set during the campaign of the game and the current countries and nations these regions and factions roughly correspond to today.

I don't need a large volume of information regarding each faction, just a short description of what these factions are known as today ( Example: Gauls are today's Frenchmen and Gaul was what is now France (give or take).

Could someone point me to a website or a thread that would help me with my personal research?

To be honest you would have to wait until the polities of the High Middle Ages before you saw any real correlation with modern states.

True. But many settlements in Rome II have been inhabited since the Neolithic period. And some like Aarhus could have been but there's no hard evidence.

Haha yeah I've always liked history! Thank God for forums where people could share their knowledge, I got some amazing answers on the TWCenter and Total War Wiki, although I also got some lazy answers like " look it up in Wikipedia".

The real trouble is a lot of the ethnic tribes (not as many as you'd think) have merged into nations we know today. Iraq is a good example of taking several different groups and putting them in one border.
