Hope youre still around old friend, just pre-ordered Rome2 and looking forward to it. :)
I am still around. It is always a delight to see you show up, doubly so when you bring some art to the Org. Have you managed to get a web site up to showcase your work? I'd love take a look at what you've been up to.
I've been a bit distracted for most of this year so haven't been following Rome2 very closely. Things should slow down in the coming weeks and I can start giving Rome2 the attention it deserves.

...good to see ya, been posting at dimeolas7.deviantart.com. Pulling together art and stories and creating a fantasy setting to put them in, even have a friend who is going to try and help write, should be fun. Will be on vacation the 5th and heading to Dallas the 7th so going to hope my old laptop can run it while am away lol.

Your use of light is outstanding as always. Your scenes are of places at which I'd love to be.
...me too...a few years back I had a dream. I was hurrying to work and at the edge of the parking lot was a bridge over a stream, on the other side were these magnificent trees blowing in the breeze. It was so peacefull I wanted to go there, felt pulled to cross that bridge but felt I wasnt ready to go yet...so I went inside to work. The terrific feeling of peace I got from that place across the bridge from that dream makes me think that it was heaven. I remember that dream like it was yesterday and I wish I had crossed that bridge. Life is hectic and painfull and I guess I seek peace. Will post a few more things as time allows.

Regarding the second one, I see the resemblences to my all-time favorite image of yours. Thanks for version 2.

Ranger character for my story, just an excuse to play with Poser again lol
I like how you went for realistic clothing for her. Those biniki-armour outfits are rather tedious.
...thanks :)....I do some pinups and I get the fantasy art babes in unrealistic clothes, thats cool.....but for me i`d rather put them in something more realistic. Some of the Poser outfits are just plain silly :)

Drastic changes coming. My company has been fitfully reorganising for a couple years. They announce things, some of which happen and some dont. The changes that were talked about a couple years ago coming in March happened last week. I was told Monday that my position was eliminated and I had three days to decide whether to either step down and take a $4/hr paycut...leave and take a small severence...apply to transfer at the lower rate....well I chose to transfer but looks like no one needs me. Sooo will be moving to Ft Worth in a couple months jobless, staying with family for awhile, and trying to find an artschool. Yup thats right i`m changing careers and going back to school to do what I love to do. Crazy concept isnt it? Good thoughts and prayers appreciated.

Sorry to hear this Dimeolas. I certainly hope this adversity will lead to better things in your life.
...thanks, sometimes in life we settle into a dark corner and need a little kick. My adversity was the kick I needed to get going. I will use it to move on in life and finally (!) do what ive wanted to do for years. TBH I have been very unhappy and since the news its like a weight has been lifted. Will be the toughest thing ive ever done, but I can`t imagine not trying :)
maybe one day you will see a mod based on my fantasy world, but for now its time to get the skills.

...stashed in the bushes with a jug of whiskey lol...
Ahhh isn't life fun. Walked in to work on a Monday nd was told had til Thursday to decide whether to accept a new position or separate from the company. They did away with my position and the new one (same work) would pay significantly less. Ive taken a transfer, moved back home and am looking for a good artschool to start classes online. Moved with the help of an upper and lower respiratory tract infection...woot!

...doing some things ive put off for awhile...
For Poser setup the Reality plugin which lets me send Poser scenes to Luxrender to render in...very promising
...Oxygen textures in Poser, very promising also.
...Struggling to balance everything of course but looking for an art school and hope to start at least online classes soon. I keep getting sidetracked but will start setting up my story soon and start rendering pics from that.

A closeup from Luxrender. Handy renderer and not the best available yet still nice. Lux keeps going in that it doesn't have a stopping point until you decide it looks good enough.

Finally found a school I like and can afford. Sadly its tough for someone older and working fulltime to get any kind of loans. If anyone has any ideas outside the govt loans and grant (not eligible) plz let me know. I cant afford a fulltime program of four years so going for a two year one to get started. Seems I made too much money last year to get diddly but that money is saved for retirement. Bad thing is that we took a paycut this year and I lost 9K so can pay for this school on my own working fulltime but wont have more.
Already bought the student edition creative suite off Amazon. I know they offer a free three year version but want something to use after. Supposedly, as soon as im enrolled/accepted I can activate that.
Anyway, appreciate you guys and will post what I do.

Dimeolas, have you looked into loans from the Department of Education or Sallie Mae private loans?
I am currently eligible for just 12k in loans, no grants. Funny thing is that I`d love to quit work and go to school fulltime but they base aid on last years income so looks like would have to be out of work for a year and have no job. That wont work. maybe the loan amount will go up next year since im making a lot less this year. Planning on this school getting me the basics and getting theory on my own. Then would like to see about a couple classes from Gnomon. The thought of being able to create whatever I want, texture it, and animate it just almost makes me pee my pants lol.
I hope you don't mind that I changed the title, I just felt the topic has progressed since it first started and there are a number including myself that enjoy seeing your latest creations too.

character for the story...Poser...playing in Maya starting to learn, that's a while different animal and kudos to the folks who ply it for their trade.
13435
guess imam slacker, always enjoy poser characters. Did a project in maya, just modelling a box from textures then apply them. Guessing that's usefull to create architecture for games, use a basic model and simple textures.

Regarding your R2TW question, you might be better off asking in the R2 forums. I don't have R2, so I can't help.
They are apparently unlockable but meant to be barebones intentionally to encourage buying of their respective DLC.
hmmm, seems to be a new marketing strategy, hold back parts of game we should have at the start, then sell DLCs. Sad.

Very nice Dimeola. Any architecture experiments as of yet? :)
just a couple walls. Have a dragon temple I want to do, I can use the statues ive had forever but the walls and gate need to be custom made.
Sounds interesting. I hope you do post it when it is complete. I do admire interesting architecture, but would have no idea as to how to design it.

Thanks guys, this is Kormael Corumvar...The Dark Dragon...legend has it that long ago the elder Corumvar mated with a dragon, and ever since the marked of the family children were paired by soul with a young dragon.
Gregoshi
11-21-2014, 11:59
...legend has it that long ago the elder Corumvar mated with a dragon...
:ahh:I'm going to assume the dragon could change into the form of a hot looking male/female (depending upon the sex of the "elder Crumvar"). Yes, I'm definitely going with that assumption.
That's wild stuff. Is it from some form of literature? I am unfamiliar with this stuff. Interesting though.
This is my own story. Yes dragons may at times take other forms, one such mated with the elder...not every child is fated to be joined so to speak but some are chosen to bind on many levels with a corresponding member of the dragon clan. Kormael was so fated. He was 'taken' controlled mind and body and turned into something of a monster, and then by a turn of events released. He went from having everything he was, believed in and held dear taken from him and replaced by darkness so foul...he did many things...but then perhaps the greatest evil was done to him, the darkness was lifted and he was released, he has full knowledge of everything that happened, he must live with what he has done and must search for what he will become...in many fantasy literatures stories are rather unrealistic, then we had Glen Cooks series that brought us real, gritty, dark fantasy. Ericksons Malazan series took that vein and did it justice...thus is this story...
lol I know I`m not a writer...and cant be giving too much away, the back explanation could take days.
Playing tween homeworks with making stuff. Yep I`m still very basic and inefficient but its so much fun

I think it is very well done. That weapon does look menacing!

Exactly. The temple beside the water is a beautiful scene, I'm pretty sure there are a couple of temples worldwide where you could go and meditate in peace.
Thx guys, for me its all about finding a few moments of peace between work and people. Someone seems to always want something, and people even tho they may think they have the best intentions...well they think they know whats best for you and want you to be just like them. Because if no one else thinks like they do then they get insecure...security means that everyone is like them. All I ask for the rest of my life is to be left to my studies and my creation. I know whats best for me and what I need, it`s MY dream and I`ll fight to the death for it. This is a very simple idea yet is very hard to master....we can do just about anything we wish, IF we are willing to pay the price. The great battles are within. WE decide for the most part our own attitude, how we take life, how we think, how we act, what we spend time on.
So if you have a dream, pursue it and fight for it. Pursue it with all your heart and mind and spirit, make the sacrifices in yourself to cleanup and maximize time on target. Do you flinch away from the tough stuff? Get frustrated? And as such get sidetracked? learn to be on the middle path, understand the frustration and temptation but keep pushing, remove the obstacles, refuse to acknowledge the hardship and it ceases to exist. Most people fall short that way, and people will doubt you to your face...use that as the 'why', fuel the desire.

Its very true, we all fall down...but who gets back up? How many times do we have to get back up? Everytime you fall down, that's all :)
Working on block modelling, a caboose and a drill and on the side a katana. Am still refining my time management, need to be much more efficient. Will be sharing work with you guys...and will be sure to do ya some nice places to sit. Thanks for all your support, is greatly appreciated.
14828
...first modelling assignment, first is to blockmodel, in my case a caboose, then we will refine the shape and then add detail. Will get a critique tonight so hopefully wont be too bad lol
All very beautiful as usual Dimeola. It looks quite difficult to produce to my eyes as well. Pleasure to look at though. :)
Thank you :) ,,,initial design was a lil weak on a couple things but he liked the roof lol. Maya has some awesome tools and its a steep curve to begin with but as you go along you see how many ways there are to do things. So you have to decide how best to do. We decided I would model the slatted sides and not use a texture lol, still a long way to go. Seems like every time I get a good head of steam up its time to go to work.
14834
Unfortunately, some things are more important than the beauty of the arts. :)
yep, I do seem to like to eat. Never been able to break that habit lol...btw this is the caboose on my folks toy Christmas train. 14836

14851
just a few more details and he likes it....dieing to try some other things lol
14862
aight finished and turned in, on to the next one, modelling a concept piece....
Gregoshi
01-22-2015, 01:27
I like the 90(?) degree rotation on the final product - much more pleasing (and traditional) angle.
KukriKhan
01-22-2015, 06:31
@$180!
@$180!
Yes, I think it is 180 degrees too, if it is the have the 'big' bit behind the 'lower' bit at a similar angle, if that is what Gregoshi means as traditional.
Though, to replicate the angle in the one before, that might be a 90ish one.
...all this math hurts my head...lol...new project is to model from a concept piece, rather fancifull...
moving from the roughing in stage to detail and finishing then textures and a turntable and environment.
14906

Haha, the mini-sub reminds me of a minion from Despicable Me but made out of metal. Keep it up Dimeolas!
Thx brudda...had to redo parts of the sub, looked good but bad modelling. Thou shalt not cram a part into another part lol...did the uv maps tonight and almost done. Next up is a bust...theres a tutorial on youtube for a minion, always wanted to try it. Vacation starts the 17th.... :)
...figured a couple things out, finishing up and then a figure, want to do a bust of afro-samurai :)
14948
Initial work, we are doing a toon character and the ones suggested aren't very interesting...even a toon Afro Samurai is much better. Holding out not to buy Attila but I prolly will lol.
Nice artwork. I have rome II. I am terrible at it. Have been playing since STW but have lost my knack for it.
Thx brudda, I got Attila but havent had time to play. Term ends saturday and scrambling to finish last project. Want to model some architecture and play some Attila on break. Luckily catch a three day with no work and no school, am almost giddy at the prospect lol.
That sounds delightful. Your hard work should enhance your leisure time.
...kinda like when a great pressure is released....there will be time to do many things....wondrous things...like sleep lol...
True. Sleep is good, as long as you don't spend all of your free time asleep. Let us hope your time off helps you rejuvenate your creative and cognitive abilities.
free time is like an explosion. Ive never had a shortage of ideas. In fact always describe it as ideas clamouring to get out, until one rips my head off and climbs out to be born. All the repressed personal projects are living again.....
:)
only bad thing is I havent touched those other softwares for two terms lol so trying to use Maya controls on em .....
What you describe as far as maya and the like sound very difficult to me. I have no problem with free time however. I have so many random thoughts traveling in one direction or the other in my mind at any given time is quite unreal. Using them constructively is where I fail. Reminds me of the old glory days of school were daydreaming took precedence to lectures and homework.
Maya is a very powerfull program. Had never tried it til school so the curve is steep, but is doable. Sometimes it just takes going thru some tutorials online as well as class. In fact I think I learn more from Lynda.com and Digital_Tutors lol.
problem I think is that we have the right idea when we are young. Then as we growup we are drilled that dreams are a waste of time, that we have to learn fear, basically we lose alot of the truth of dealing with life and being happy and fullfilled.
We should always dream. have courage and innocence. Lives that are so full and seriousness, what a way to kill the heart and the soul.

Malukah :)
...the folks who are good at programs like Maya get fast with it...my problem is that it takes so much time to see how to do it, remember how to do it, mess it up then fix it lol. Poser and such do alot for you but rob you of total control. Once I get familiar enough that it doesnt take me so long to do things then i`ll be in heaven. I want to create what i`m dreaming and thus learn to refine my dreaming :)

a lil poser using a new set by Xurge3D
Very nice indeed. Your dreams become quite lucid when you apply your abilities in your programs. Beautiful!
thanks...at the point where am starting to model armor, fairly simple when its loosely based on anatomy....then tweak it to please....then create UVs to take into photoshop to create textures. So will be learning to paint textures :)
...making it conforming in Poser will be something new, have no idea lol.
Wow. Are you the artistic type, a techie or both? What you explain is lost on me. Not an artistic drop of blood in my body. What you create is quite beautiful though.
prolly just an art type trying to get tech so I can use better tools. Basically to make armor take the body part it covers and make a copy...thats the basic shape. Then you can play with it to get more interesting shape and detail. A UV map is like the old deal of taking a round globe of the earth, peeling it like an orange and laying it flat. you take this map into a program like photoshop to paint a texture, then can take it back into Maya and place it back on the object. You can say paint metal armor with a crest design, then in maya make it shiny and anything else you see in the real world...its getting really involved but when I can design and build all my own stuff will be very vefry happy.
Cool. I look forward to seeing some more of the models you put together.
this term will start wednesday next week, rigging, which is making an object so it can be animated...but have to keep modelling constantly...constantly, sleep is for the weak lol.
Indeed. Good luck and I hope your leisure time was spent advantageously and that your next term goes well.

Your use of light is brilliant. Love it!
thx brudda, have to create a lil time for Vue...term has started and going to be a b*&^% lol.....started my map for the story so will post the first part when done... :)

first pass on first assignment, they provided the robot and we had to rig it with very simple controls and parent it accordingly, I added a lil quick texture for fun...critique is tomorrow so if its acceptable will get the rest of the week off :)
Your use of light is brilliant. Love it!
Thx, can never give up Vue.....would LOVE to be creating levels and areas and architecture for gaming etc.

Have you considered fashion design as a backup plan? :wink3:
lol, well unfortunatel for that career the outfit here I didnt make....my ideas for clothing and armor are probably a bit boring and realistic. Arms on the other hand are the expression of ones soul....

last Rigging project and half the grade. Rigging completely a character. Have IK/FK blended on the arms and legs, curl on the fingers, spine and head are off to a start...for this week need to do spread of fingers and then finish off the feet. Hardest thing will probably for me be weights painting for the joints and head...mouth esp. Hoping to finish this afternoon since is my day off, have an axe ive been working on :)

Class is over and we finished a week early so free time. This is a very basic and sloppy first version of the Darkness Falls map. I do not claim the graphics, borders were a free download, map textures were likewise, all put together by me of course to depict the western area of the world.
Tanar Jaless...whore of the west....ancient and dark. Once held power over most of the west due to the power of brother/sister rulers. The brother acted the general and the sister a daemonologist who ruled thru magiks and foul beasts.
Andon Noroth...aka Giants Gift...as the young race of Man emerged several tribes went north to join the giants against the foul hordes that poured over the peaks. Victorius but crippled the giants went deep into the mtns leaving some of their kin behind to tailor a fortress for their human allies.
Barakur...strong fortress of the Dwarves....bastion against the darkness, this is where Voden Stonecrusher sang his songs of power and purchased the safety of the Dwarves with his life.
Quilsalas...one of the forests of the Elves,
Thunbergi, Helveti, Marcomann, Anhalt, Carnutes...the Nathi kingdoms. They live life to the fullest. Love to drink, boast, fight. If they could ever unite.....every kingdom seems to have an interest against that happening however.
Andor...the Tor petty kingdoms, ruling from the lofty peaks.
Kithpara...the trader lands. A natural seapower and traders.
Angul_Rond...the Reaver-March...to the NW lie the Reavers, warriors and traders, AR is a mix of reaver and native which had served as a buffer for the empire, now playing the two against each other to try and be free.
This timeframe finds the bro/sis rulers have been dead for a decade. The power of the empire shattered, their generals loosely hold it together tho many lands have fallen away, infighting rules the day. they have started to move to retake the lost power. Dark clouds gather to the north threatening both Giants Gift and the Barakun Dwarves. Reavers have once again been ravaging the coasts and rivers in number.
much still to do such as rivers and locations and traderoutes, weather....just thought i`d throw this out there :)
term break so doing some modelling and learning textures, light and render, still noobish1571515716

just a basic sword, just some slapped on textures, seems all i`m capable of for now...

just a quick screen of a sword wip...funny how you think you know what things look like and how they are made but when it comes down to detail and building em its a whole new ballgame. How we do take so much for granted.

Same applies to what you do. Your project and work-in-progress pictures give a whole new appreciation to the complexity of the art.
yep, what amazes me is how much goes into concept, modelling, texturing (omg), rigging, lighting, animating...its crazy lol. Those guys who work for a small company and do several things are my heroes :)

latest project, class starts end of month Intro to Lighting
sadly no free time, class takes all my free time. School approach seems to be to provide a minimal teaching then expect us to figure it out and find tutorials. Wasting huge amounts of time trying to figure out why things don't work, thinking I wont be continuing after this term, heh after tonight. Seems to me have waited too long in life, suffering so poorly from lack of color theory, composition , skills in zbrush...mebbe all I am is a hobbyist after all.

Have you talked to the teacher/prof/instructor about this? Either they are incompetent or there are some assumed prerequisites you are missing. I'd hate to see you give up on this - you've got more than hobbyist talent.
thx brother, the guys who instruct generally dont know how to teach. They are very good in their field but tend to assume we know the basics. The last several projects are photoshop heavy, skills I dont have. I told him this and that it never mentioned needing this, he said he would demonstrate it in class. He demonstrated how to do it in Nuke, some very powerfull but intricate software. I bumbled thru with PS but it wasnt pretty. Alot of what we need in ps involves painting skills, painting and other things that take time to develop. Oh well...heres the final, to animate 15 frames or more, I lit and animated the room...enjoy. Taking next term off cause am so damn frustrated and ticked im restraining meself from telling the school off. I will be sending a very progfesional evaluation of my four classes so far. Another thing that kills me is that we have only seen one grade of 5 assignments.
The killer of that room is that he wants lightrays added in ps in every frame of course. Which I can do one frame easy but to do every one they have to look the same, not happenin lol. Going to finish up, play some games and modle some stuff ive wanted to do for awhile and finish that map and work on my world.
Oh and the other kicker in this class was that he exxpected us to look up alot of it online, working full time and wandering around the net looking for answers on beginner stuff he should teach ...dont likes it.
Anyway, not going to give up but may find another school, Thanks for always lookin and have a very Merry Christmas....

That map looks great!
17147
frames of the entire scene, he gave me an 'a', go figure. Thx Gregoshi and my other friends here, have a very Merry Christmas. Going to make some time to do some landscapes again and model architecture. Map- need toadd the cities and a few other things. Work is insane and family coming to town in a couple days but then its time to finish map. Ya all take good care.
...It is with a sad and heavy heart that my Alienware desktop lays dieing. Am trying to save my Poser and other graphics resources, a huge amount. Its 6 years old and has been the best pc ive ever had. Through gaming and graphics its been by my side. may it rest in peace. *pulls .45 and fires off several rounds into the failing drive*
17357
my first full figure, blocking in a dwarf warrior, will get the hand and head then do some detailing and add hair and a lil bit of clothes...and an axe
17381
base mesh almost done, not bad for my first altho very sloppy. At this point many would take it into zbrush or mudbox, and detail, bring back into maya and retopologize, but am going to detail what I can in maya to make a toon dwarf,
speaking of which, autodesk has a character creator, similar to the toon creator in some games. low res is free for student license and med and high can be had for credits...blackdesert mmo due out this year is offering their toon creator a sa download ...and the toons are going to be so sweet. If the game itself looks anything like the toons and it plays well theyre making tons....thinking of doing a preorder so I can get into the last beta in feb...heh nm a preorder, requires paying thru a 'paysafe' card, never heard of it, wonder why they dont do credit cards?
17558
in progress from Vue,
17559
just a quick on the dwarf, slapped the other side on and added the fast maya skin...for my first body and third head even tho its crap its not too bad. Downloaded the Unreal4 engine which is free, easy to use, great community, the terrain tools are just like vue, can create assets in maya and bring them in...and yep working on the story world.

my afternoon, an axe :)

the highland forest of Anilah
...just wanted to say thank you for all your support my friends...I owe you this at least. Sadly this term of Environmental Modelling has pointed out that this is, even tho they advertised otherwise, not a school for beginners. Each class seems filled with professionals and people with experience and skills. This term instead of the advertised teaching us to create things it was assumed we could model and he was just teaching how his workflow goes, which is awesome but I need instruction in modelling. I just lack the basics and again sadly when I drop this class and honestly tell them my displeasure will be dropped from school. This was the only one I could afford and get into without a drawing portfolio. I had dropped down to 4 days at work so I could spend more time on school. As my skill level is low it takes all the time I could put into it to get homework done so wasnt having time to draw, study theory etc. I even have been wanting to get into the Unreal4 engine. Anyway lets just say I ransomed life for this and not blaming school, just myself , it didnt work.
Aight thanks again, been fun. You guys take care.

class project so far....have 3 weeks left and still have to finish making UVs and texturing, organising the files and cleaning up, background and rendering. At a point where just going to do what I can, take my 'F' and look for another school. I do expect to be taught when I pay tuition tho i've been told they dont really do that in school anymore :)

wip, one week to go...thanks bro, very much. break for next term and vacation from work starting the 21st, diving back into Vue and modelling in maya so will hook you up, already have some scapes planned :)
Why would your work be a F? it looks good.
Thx, well its not really a matter of how it looks but of how its made. This is learning to create sets for animation and if the structure...modelling etc isnt correct then its not acceptable. managed to find some answers online and went back thru things and I'm thinking it will be a 'C'...hope lol. Just a couple things and will be done, turnin is friday night. The gaspumps for example are where it all falls apart. The modelling on them is junk and as a result it doesnt texture properly, but is such a mess cant see where to fix it.18459
have to redo the texture for the ground, fix the lighting. And do a last onceover check. Then maybe can finally get some warhammer time in. Off the summer so will be going over what I didnt catch from this term...and want to go thru and catch screens from my favorite areas in a couple games and then model em.
18487
what I went with, spent a splendidly frustrating afternoon not being able to troubleshoot the tool that creates vegetation, and the paintbrush was going to use to make rust runs below the roof. Altho are many mistakes and things i havent done in awhile that I cant get right... Overall whatever he gives me will keep going, much to learn but I can see making some fantasy scenes.

Looking good to my uneducated eye.
Thanks, pulled an 85, he didnt like my use of textures because he said it hid the modelling. Should have gone with a maquette render which is without textures and ambient occlusion on , really does show it off. Now off school for the next term and vacation from work starts the 21st, playing catchup, getting organised, getting some texturing software 'Substance Painter' and getting the storysite worked on. Catchup and some warhammer, and something they call sleep. hmm
