View Full Version : Patch 7 beta has broken campaign... Probably best to avoid it!

Played my (legendary Roman) campaign yesterday with the patch 7, and it was a little unstable but workable. Had another 884.9MB update today, (don't know if that is patch 7 specific or not) and the campaign won't load at all now, Rome crashes as soon as I try.

The only mod I have is a campaign camera one.

Might be an idea not to try the beta, if you were thinking about it...

Strange. I had no problem with the beta patch. Also, no large update for me. Perhaps you somehow reverted back to patch 6?

Even if it works, your campaign might make little sense because of the changes to how much stuff you can do with your empire level.

My Rome campaign froze as well. I just deleted it and started a new one. I will say, Patch 7 does seem to have more freezes and crashes.

Patch 7 happened to come almost "between campaigns" for me. Almost all my p7 play has come with new campaigns started since the update...so I haven't had this particular campaign start problem. I have, however, experienced several game freezes, most notably the "archer target" issue. Merging units (Ctrl+M) may also be a freeze trigger.

Have considered opting back out of this particular beta, primarily because of the archer freeze. Being able to target specific units is pretty darn important for missile units, to ensure they're firing for max effect. It's even more important when one is playing a steppe nomad faction where the early army is almost entirely horse archers!

It looks like I was 'opted out of the beta' - which probably explains why my campaign wouldn't load. Just noticed on a new campaign that the old (pre 7) imperium levels were back, and now I have to opt back in and re-dl the patch. Confused as to how/why this would happen... Anyone else that was in the beta noticed anything similar?

Also - you can merge units?!?! I've tried to drag units together to merge them but nothing happened - is ctrl+m the only way? And is it therefore automatic & all or nothing?

[edit] Just read that you can merge individual units: "Left click mouse on 1 unit, hold down Ctrl and left click on another unit (same class)...Then still keeping CTRL down, click M and the 2 units will be merged." - not mentioned anywhere in manual, so I assume you were just supposed to discover that yourself... Jesus...

You can auto merge the units in your armies? Wooohoo. I didn't know that.

Yeah, but don't try it (at least with patch 7) - instacrash. Always nice when a bug returns from as far back as Medievil and Empire, it's nostalgic ;)

Yep, select 2 units, then Ctrl+M. I've also experienced a post-Patch7beta game freeze with this, although not as rampant as the missile-unit targeting freeze.

There is an update to the official beta post on .com. It seems, they have released a hotfix to the patch. The hotfix is supposed to repair a crash in some battle. Maybe the hotfix broke the game for you?

It's odd - something downloaded, I assumed it was a hotfix of some sort - and then I couldn't load the campaign I was playing, which I had started with patch 6 and continued with patch 7 (it definitely was 7 - it had the new imperium levels). I started a new campaign, and it was apparent I had reverted to pre patch-7 (the imperium levels were back to the old version). I had to go into steam and re-enroll for the beta, which had to download again, and then I started a new campaign with patch 7 again. Bizarre.

Was hoping the hotfix addressed the missile targeting problem. It didn't. Back to Patch 6.

Right, I tried starting a campaign but the game is just kind of unplayable at the moment. It keeps crashing upon doing all sorts of things. Last time it crashed, it did so when I declared war on someone (I had to do it manually cause right click>declare war crashed too. Then I got it to not crash just so it could crash after the battle was done.

I guess I can't complain cause it says beta... >_>

Has anyone else experienced a problem using the 2tpy mod with Patch 7?

34 turns into a new campaign and all of a sudden certain structures will no longer progress through the building queue towards completion. I even restarted a few of them and still nothing. Even repairs stay in limbo. Tested over 6 turns with no change, in one instance the number actually went up :laugh3: (and then stayed there).

So far I haven't seen this reported anywhere yet.

That might not be an error. Rather agent action.

Interesting. The settlement that I first noticed it in had definitely come under attack by agent action twice (poisoned wells), but if I'm not mistaken I was out of the effects window by then. Need to look into that to be certain... but given the duration (I fast forwarded to test 6 turns - 3 years) wouldn't I get some sort of notification if there were further attacks? Seems excessive, if it is agent action I haven't experienced it before to that extent. And would poison wells alone do this?

lars573
11-26-2013, 18:52
I'm not sure what action it is. But in my recent Seleucid campaign I've had a buildings completion time go from 1 turn, to 2, to 3, to 5, to 6. All due to a spy and champion camping out next to the town. I've also had repair times take similar jumps when agents were around.

Bramborough
11-26-2013, 19:06
Yep, if an agent hits a completed building, the damage is obvious, you get the "damaged building" icon, grayed out with big cracks in it.

If the agent hits a building under upgrade, however, it is not so obvious. He is actually damaging the previous, complete building, but that older building's icon has already been replaced by the upgrade icon. So you don't get the "damaged building" display, you only see the increased number of turns for completion of the upgrade (because now you have to repair the old building first before continuing with the upgrade, so those extra repair turns are now tacked on).

Agent sabotage missions also have a secondary effect of slowing down construction; I believe, the critical success outcome on that one is "dramatically slowed down construction"... Try it out in the tooltips of your own spy (for arson).

I do not know what's the point of those against the AI though. The AI side seems to get instant construction whenever they want. That might be related to campaign difficulty though.

Thanks for all the insight fellas, this is all new money to me

I never noticed the extent of the secondary effects before. I finally caught up to the AI spy responsible for all the sabotage again, cuz she disappeared 2 turns before I conducted my test, and evidently she's been putting in more work than I knew about as she's already level 7 (when last spotted she was level 3)! A crazy level gain, I literally have no agents in her class, she's gonna prove difficult to deal with the way all my assets are positioned at the moment.

Quick question about the latest patch, I was unclear if I needed to start a new campaign for all the effects to kick in, is that the case?

Hooahguy
11-27-2013, 03:51
So it seems like it does. The new imperium does, and the CAI seems to act better than it used to, but as they say, its always best to start a new campaign.

Well, ok, guess I'll start a new one while at the same time finishing the one I've got going. I was playing in the succession campaign and where I left off and handed off my turn is the point I just kept going on my own, so I sorted of want to push through to the end, both because I've got a lot of hours in it at this point and I wanted to compare where the succession campaign ends up relative to where I end up.

Thanks to all for the warnings about beta-patch7 problems, which let me avoid downloading that version.

I'm still running patch 5 at the moment but would like, after I finish my current campaign, to try patch7. Are the problems in the beta all solved now that the official patch7 has been released? No recent complaints in any thread to date, so I hope that means that you are all happily playing it.... ?

Ive had zero real problems, save for a problem with playing a joint naval siege battle which causes huge lag.

Hmm, really? You do not have a problem with thunder-rain weather when FPS drop to zero even before you get to the battlefield? What's your rig? Mine is 4.2 Ghz quad-core with 16 GB Ram, and GTX 680 card; still have that rain problem.

I also tend to have slowdowns during siege battles when massed fire-missiles come out. It seems, I am able to reduce the effect of that by turning missile tracking off.

Nope, no rain problem. Im also running an i7 so that might be it.

It is not due to the I7 because I have one too and I get rain freeze.

Ultra.

Hmm, same here. So the difference is not due to you using smaller unit size. But I see, Myth is having the rain freeze also on I7.

What graphics cards you both use? I am NVIDIA, gtx 680

Thanks for replies - patch 7 downloading as I type.

And in return: I too get huge slowdown whenever the battlefield is raining. Around 1 frame a second (or less) but not so bad that I can't hit 'Wait' and get the next day's weather coming up in a bearable amount of time. Been the same with all patches of Rome II, and the same when running under both 'Ultra' and the next down settings.

The biggest problem I had in p7beta was a game freeze when targeting an enemy with grouped missile units. That no longer occurs in Patch 7.

I do still have the rain FPS slowdown, but for me that is not a Patch 7 problem, that's happened pretty much the whole time I've played this game. If anything, Patch 7 seems to have helped a little in that regard, because occasionally playable rain battles come along now (not often).

Oh, that might be it. I have heard that the graphics mod somehow optimizes particle effects. Folks can have higher settings and better performance with it.
